An investigation into Frontier's actions on Combat Logging

define combat logging: forcefully quitting the program or internet connection when your in a losing situation.. theres a few problems here. 1: what if you genuinely lose connection. 2: what if you have a power cut. 3: what if the instancing is out of sync? 4: what if your connection is garbage anyway ie bad ping, bad jitter.

FD cant tell if anyone forcefully pulled their connection through any logs they have, they dont know if sun1s power went, connection went down, psu blew up, drivers stopped or jesus turned their hdd into wine - not possible. they wont risk banning an innocent player through no fault of his/her own - how would you like it?

had a cmdr in supercruise a few week ago pull into position behind me, i knew he was going to interdict me and he was in an FDL, i didn't mind i was flying my combat fitted, tanked + engineered cutter and was just waiting for it :) the interdiction never came but then text appeared saying 'nice bug' .... ?? i didnt do anything, not my fault tbings don't work as intended. imo the 15 second timer should be extended to 20-30 seconds but is that fair on people who really do lose connection/power or hdds turn into wine at a bad time.
He thought you were running a script with interdiction turned off...that's why he typed that.....and yes it's possible.

well i dont run any scripts and wouldnt know how.. maybe it was the scripts he was running that ruined it for him. he was lucky anyway, he would've combat logged n been banned ( lol )

Reddit hates cheaters?....lol....just like they don't have piracy threads with the latest crack status on games.....your numbers are big on Reddit because it's a place where you can get away with being a ......

There are no piracy/crack/cheat threads on specific game subreddits, especially /r/EliteDangerous. Why do piracy/crack focused subreddits exist? That's up to Reddit admin to deal with.

As to the ED subreddit's numbers being big: are you stating that ~80k CMDRs are knobs? Wow, that's quite a statement. Perhaps someone should tell FDev so they no longer do AMA's on there? It's clearly a pointless endeavour...

Please stay on topic, as per the OP ;)

I don't know about ED sub reddit being big....just the whole of reddit in general.....this forum is like a goody 2 shoes church.....reddit is like pub during a lock down lol

You're very welcome. They are true as well. As for your rhetorical question, it was in fact already answered. Incidentally this brings up the topic of your reading comprehension. You should try to get gud at reading. It comes in handy more often than you'd think.

Your trying so hard to dance around that fact that your no different to any other logger before you it's worthy of applause. Just admit it you can't handle the inconvenience of dying so you take the easy way out. Keep going on I want to see just how far your denial goes.

Again with the reading comprehension. Sure, let's see how far your strawman goes. I'm game ;)

Ignoring a problem doesn't get it resolved. Proving a problem exists and creating drama around it has been shown to get Dev action. The OP has proved that FDev lied. What I, and many commenters in this thread & elsewhere want, is for the issue to be resolved.

Please explain: why would discussion of this Dev-ignored topic (since early 2015) kill the game?
To start, no one said to ignore the problem. I don't know where you got that idea. Yes causing drama is a good way to get attention, this is true, but sometimes it is the attention you don't want. OP hasn't proved it to me.
I came at the post originally with an open mind, and for a moment, I was convinced. But when I finished the whole thing, I found it to be too malicious. It seemed too intent on proving FDev as being liars than trying to absolve the issue.

As for killing the game... to much pressure from the community could have an adverse affect. I recently suffered a layoff because my then boss gave into to much pressure. Crap posts like this could incite the wrong kind of pressure. Just look at Hello Games and NMS. They haven't said a peep since their fiasco. We don't even know if they are still working on the game.

Hahahaha! It's a voluntary moderator's job to check history, how else can we expect to moderate with context? "he's insulted that person! Nope, they're friends, it's banter. Approved" ;)

Many CMDRs move to the ED Reddit from the forums (as I did in general two years ago; it has a wider range of playstyle opinion). A substantial proportion (majority of community news) of the weekly ED newsletter is Reddit sourced (the subreddit is #2 to the forums, with ~50% of the daily traffic but more public visibility). And the gaming media use overall Reddit to source news, information and public opinion (Reddit.com is the top world's #26 most visited website). Nah, it must be that Reddit is the toxic place. Hmmm, Reddit does hate cheaters though...

Yeah, so. I visit the subreddit every day. That is where I first read the OP. I still think it is a toxic s**thole. I wouldn't call it that if I wasn't there to see it for myself.

And whats with the OP, starts this crap off the goes MIA, you would think he would be here defending his crusade.
Don't worry. His minions are out in force. They are used to working as a Wing you know.

I really like hearing how mode invaders (and I believe as some have posted, sometime ago though I can't recall now, combat loggers,) are playing within the rules. Do you mean that they only play within the rules supported by FDev that they like?...
I would really like if FDev policed the game more too.
1. Complete ban mode invaders
Oh, the ones with an alt account do get shadowbanned for about a month. May not sound like much, but reports indicate that it stings though.

I must say this was an interesting thread to follow. Most of all, there is something to say for delivery and messenger. If those two were different, I believe the response here would have been different as well. Unfortunately both are what they are, and like xdeath keeps repeating; they do accomplish their goal. Divide and conquer and all that.

There are many things wrong with the game as it is, CL'ing is just one part. And the CL'ing the OP and his kin are complaining about are a symptom, not the disease. The cure, well we've been waiting for that for about two years and nothing heard for the last 9 months.

HG promoted and promised an enormous number of features that weren't in NMS (see summary here), so it's simply not comparable.

ED already has its reputation among the wider gaming community, of which the prevalence of cheaters/exploiters is a large negative factor (grind is the #1 complaint). Public Dev statements and gaming media articles indicating progress of improving any feature or resolving any issue help change that reputation. As you've seen the highly upvoted Reddit post, the gaming media will have to - it's the largest drama of combat logging (so far). Whether FDev feel suitable pressure to take action is unknown at this point, but I certainly hope they do.

Yeah, so. I visit the subreddit every day. That is where I first read the OP. I still think it is a toxic s**thole. I wouldn't call it that if I wasn't there to see it for myself.
Toxic how, if you don't mind me asking?

And many of us disagree.

But lets say OP was right, and FDev did lie. What does this achieve? It still drives a wedge between Frontier and the Community. Its stuff like this that kills games.
People complain that Solo and PG are killing Elite, but it is posts like these that will really truly kill Elite.
I like this game. I don't want to see it go the way of the Dodo because you and OP want to prove that FDev lied.

That explains why the subreddit is a toxic s**thole, aside from it being on reddit(which is a toxic s**thole).

With all due respect, if FD can't be honest, they're no better than EA. And EA is on my "never buy, no way, not ever" list not because of the quality of their games, but because of the behavior of the company.

You're missing out on some good games.

Why is this such a big deal in the first place? So a player logs on you, can you not see that you made them run away? Is that not victory? People sound as if they lost something valuable. Are you not one of higher honer?

When a warrior sees a contender run do they not laugh? If you cannot see this, is it not one troll trolling another?

The killing player misses out on the bounty payment, cargo drop, and rank increase. Not to mention satisfaction.

I'm aware.. but principle prevents me from ever giving that company another penny until their behavior seriously changes.

I hope you realize that that action could be them putting the cork on Elite. Frontier won't collapse, but they could ditch Elite because it attracts to much bad attention. Especially accusations of being liars. Do you not see?

If the cork gets put on it because the developers couldn't be bothered to reply to something in a forum, then it needs to die sooner rather than later.

You act like the problem is the accusations, rather than the lying.

And this serves as proof that OP was attempting and succeeded, unfortunately, to cause discontent and distrust.

I'm not speaking directly to you Karunamon, but to any one else. Why do you still not see what the problem with OP is? How do you not see this?

More proof of my point.

More proof of my point.

Maybe they do see the point, and think that the OP is a symptom of a bigger problem, and hiding the information won't solve the division already caused by exploits.

Also, opinions of third parties don't prove motive.

@OP, I have no interest in companies manipulating me with bull to keep me as a customer. Nice work.

And you're the main propaganda person in the SDC? Wow!

Just taking advantage of the loops in the system, remember SDC is in the business of using clever game mechanics and playing on the thin line of the TOS. That's why SDC is a highly controversial group that catch the attention of many people. Taking advantage of the stupidy of the community is good way to get our message across. If you repeat the same propaganda over and over, eventually players will believe you and join your ranks.

Everything we do in SDC is done in such a way that we know what is going to happen, we know the results of our actions and what is to come.

My honest question is, why does anyone find this the least surprising? We know they haven't done anything to enforce their own set of rules, otherwise, egregious cheaters, exploiters, and generally bad people would be banned...

If anything this just confirms my suspicions...the fact that support probably has a standing order to just ignore combat logging tickets makes me sad. I'd really like to hear what Frontier has to say for themselves this time.
