An investigation into Frontier's actions on Combat Logging

+1

Sad that it seems to have come to this but combat logging is, and always has been this games biggest flaw...

(gets popcorn)

Not really, the biggest flaw is FDev's lack of respect for its player base. We won't even get into the dishonesty involved. That is simply the result of the root-cause.

cowards who COMBAT LOG should not just be banned but should also never EVER be allowed to play the game again

Just a little forum tip, making blunt statements in large bolded coloured text is a quick way to get yourself on peoples block lists. Preventing your statements from having their intended effect.

As for the statement itself, consumer laws in most countries would make that highly illegal, or controversial at least.

I'm fairly sure that doing it without being able to prove that there is absolutely no way for a false positive to happen would result in a nasty courtroom loss just about everywhere.

And there is no way to completely eliminate false positives.

If a player breaks the TOS of any game then they are fair game to be banned eternally.
This game is kinda different though with regards the subject matter.

I'm not against the idea, especially for some of the more egregious cheats.

But that is a tough line for FDev to walk, especially considering the games current state.

And the fact that they'd like to sell 9 more seasons.

Me: I'd like to perma ban people who make hyperbolic statements in large green letters in the forums.

I'm not suggesting they should walk in any fashion, just that they would have a player bang to rights if they broke the TOS. That was in answer to your consumer laws theory.
I think they'll allow so much but if pushed, they will ban and have done in the past. I can see a fair few more in the not to distant future as well.
Probably not for logging either but they've banned players for that as well.

There's always 2 sides to any story.

Way to miss the point [...] Lack of these "system or systems" isn't a justification for logs [...]
To recap:

the_Monk:
Address the reasons people 'combat-log' and the issue becomes less of one.
You:
Making every player immortal is not a good idea.
CMDR Arguendo:
That's selective reading. C&P is the best way to address it [...]
You:
"Hunt other Commanders."
Me:
In what way is that incompatible with a functional and effective criminal justice system or systems?
You:
Way to miss the point [...] Lack of these "system or systems" isn't a justification for logs.
If I've missed the point I'm afraid I'm still not seeing the point I'm supposed to have missed. As far as I can see the_Monk didn't suggest that making players immortal was the solution, Arguendo didn't suggest that a criminality system would prevent players from hunting other Commanders, and I didn't suggest that the lack of a criminality system is a justification for combat logging.

Unfortunately FD have acted like 'snake oil salesmen' promising different things to different groups; now when those groups come expecting the promises fulfilled their duplicity is revealed.

Maybe they expected people who dislike PVP to avoid open in the first place, they may also not have anticipated bored expolit-billionaire griefers using ships as disposable irritation tools.

I must admit I'm not too familiar with how this type of thing works. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always kind of thought that FD could decide to ban anyone from the game that they like, for any reason, or even without giving a reason, with the proviso that unless they can prove the person broke the TOS, they would have to give that person a refund on the game.

It could be that some players are so toxic that it's better to ban them and refund them than have them still in the game, even if they technically haven't broken the TOS (or cannot prove that they have done so).

I could be wrong in this though and I'm not a lawyer.
