Anaconda managed to out-maneuvre my Vulture???

I'm kind of puzzled right now. For some reason, Federal Dropships and Anacondas always manage to out-maneuvre my Vulture. I have no problems with ASPs or Pythons, and other agile ships such as the viper.

My strategy is to stick as close to them as possible while staying out of their line of fire. If I get into their line of fire I would boost pass them, turn off flight assist and swing back behind them.

However, this does not seem to work against the Anacondas I am facing (> 200K bounty). I try and stick behind them, but they always somehow manage to turn around so that they are facing me. I would boost pass them, then swing around. Initially, it would look that it worked, but then they would somehow turn around again quicker then I can stay behind them.

I don't get how these huge ships can out-maneuvre my Vulture? Any thoughts or tips?

Sounds like a dangerous or Elite level NPC.. they are notorious for reverse turning on you. A perfectly legitimate tactic that works. Basically the NPC reverses and pitches their ship in your direction. It is very effective at countering small ships.

Work on your thruster technique and balance between using main engines and thrusters. FAOFF in these instances is pretty mandatory. But there is no one single counter.

Remember, dont react to your target, anticipate and reposition before they maneuver (not easy, but very effective)

Vindicator beat me to the punch! ;)

The Conda is very effective at using reverse thrust to make "on a dime" turns. High skilled NPCs are especially good at using this technique.

Regarding “Main engines” and “Thrusters”...

I already know about and use lateral and vertical thrusters, but is there a seperate Forward and Reverse thruster that isn’t using the main engines?

If so, what is the fundamental difference?

Thanks

No, the main drive and retro thrusters are used to provide forward/backward thrust.

Now that we're talking about the forward and backward thrust - is their thrust the same? Are you breaking at the same rate you're accelerating?

Diagram (off interwb, not mine) showing how revserski-turning works:

I can confirm a python can keep a Vulture in it's arc :D

Frontier needs to implement a second bind set for us.
When we deploy hardpoints our tactical control bind comes into play. Have a ship option in side panels to apply or deactivate as required.

New players might get a shock but, once they see two sets of control binds. Or just have the tactical set selected as N/A as default for not in use and be optional for us, me, who want to use it.

The PC version already has the option to have an alternate set of flight bindings.

No idea about the console versions

How do they work ?
Im on console.

Ah forget that. Standard/Alternate.
The thing is for most of us on console we need this for roll/yaw.
I need a tactical set for combat when I deploy my hardpoints with a second set of standard/alternate.

I've had another look at the alternate controls and its a very limited sub set of options.
With a tactical control set I would be looking at having the entire control binding ranges available. I think this is a good idea.

Condas & Dropships are pretty easy to get behind because they are slow, even when they use reversing pitch...you have to boost on their yaw axis to avoid this tactic that they use effectively...& keep adjusting because the simplistic AI will use the same tactics whether it is working or not - which in this case it shouldn't, especially if you're flying a DD Vulture, for example.

Clippers are the most effective at this manoeuvre & if you get an aggressive 'boost-reverser' (All NPCs are not created equal ofc - often Master ranked are harder to outfly than Deadly or Elite variants - go figure!); they prove difficult to stay behind using thrusters alone, even once in prime position - then you'll have to resort to constant controlled boost turns (ie the same way as you have to PvP against good pilots in the large ships who use continual boost/FAOFF flip to attempt to bring their guns to bear). 'Still eminently doable though - after all, it is Elite's ineffective AI we're talking about here.[blah]
