News Another sneak peek at Horizons progress (Base Raid)

With the concern regarding solo players attacking bases, I assume there would be bases of different sizes/threat, so you choose the difficulty of the task by targeting bases according to your situation.

Just like in space combat, a lone player shouldn't try attacking an NPC wing of 4 Elite Anacondas, whereas a player wing of 4 vultures would give it a go.

Planet/moon bases have to follow a similar mechanic really to cater for solo players and wings.

Great video.

What do we think is going to be the reward for taking bases like these?, credits?, cargo?, some kind of hard to find components for the upcoming crafting?

I'm dreaming now, but imagine after taking one of these, that you can then use it to produce commodities that you offload and sell, all the while having to keep the defenses in place in case of another player taking it over...

I'd like to have a little grain factory somewhere on a far out planet, Or maybe a narcotics factory in an anarchy system. :)

Question is, how fun will it really be? To me it look like a bit too much pew-pew and less like the more slow paced gameplay that I've always liked.
I think you forgot to put a ;) on the end of that statement. People just don't get it otherwise...

Presumably this has been already answered, will there be new Air to Surface weapons, or will the lasers etc that we carry be effective against surface targets. I'd have thought if you're flying nose-first at a surface target with only a 1-3Km weapon range, there's a high chance of face-planting into the ground! Ventrally mounted turrets would be great though.

Bombs would be epic, especially if we can 'toss' them (release them on a climbing trajectory then peel off). Maybe even laser guided attacks using surface Scarabs to illuminate the target. Ok, maybe this is a step too far.. ;)

That ship flying over an SRV - amazing!
I concur. That part was awesome!
cant wait to see what it's like when there's multiple ships buzzing around in surface flight. I'm envisioning a community goal that involves a surface base as a destination. Pure mayhem. :D

I first wonder what's the context behind being considered as attacker by a base: that's something new to E: D as there's currently neither station nor outpost in aggresive defense mode from scratch (apart from law infringement). Can we assume there will be pirate bases along faction ones?

Having just got stuck into a civil war (the faction I've been supporting looks like losing unfortunately, better luck next time) .. the idea of translating that into (e.g.) final ground assault on the base is just too good, not to imagine.

Oh man....
Explosions and noise and SRV's and pew and pew and planets and Corvettes and base rading and and....

*snap*

*thud*

Arghgmbl....

Could you imagine the Code assaulting a base for gold like a heist? Or Patreus' forces eliminating Dawn bases up close and personal?

If bases are destructible, it would make for a sublime addition to the game.

Bomb runs with Eagles would be great...

Torpedo runs down a canyon base?

Maybe but I hope there is more to it than that, and we actually get NPC faction missions where your wingmates may be AI.

I'll say it again - when the first player videos of Horizons start hitting Youtube, sales are going to go through the roof. This looks epic.

An Anaconda swoops down out of the sky, launches a Sidewinder, then begins bombarding a surface fort. The Sidewinder deploys a Scarab, then provides cover for the Conda against skimmers. The Scarab scoots in and takes out the surface-to-air weapons. Woohoo :)
