fans are good, blind fanbois defending flaws in a game are not
Truthfully, people don't have to be "bad" or "blind fanbois" to enjoy something we do not.
I understand debates can get heated, but we are all different and insulting others for not agreeing with us is something we should all try to avoid imo.
I did. I saw interviews with FDev talking about walking around ships etc. They released those videos as marketing materials. I'm yet to find the videos where they say "There's not much in the way of narrative, we're not able to do space legs or atmospheric landings because we wouldn't have content, we keep messing up crime and punishment and engineering will take weeks out of your life waiting for the game to randomly generate materials....If you're aware of any such videos let me know so I can point any prospective players to them for their research. Clearly my research was naively limited to the promises FDev made about they're own game.
FDev absolutely shared a vision of the game during the kickstarter that they haven't been able to fully implement yet, and may never be able to implement. Well, not until Elite Dangerous 2 maybe?
I don't find that odd, and actually expect companies to aim high and fall a little short.
That said, I still enjoy the game as is, even if the kickstarter version sounds even better.
I think what annoys me about them is they haven't even had the courage to confront the issues. Explain why they haven't met their own expectations. Instead we get Sandro with a silly stuffed toy and cowboy hat saying 'yea boi' like they're having a great laugh while churning out messy update after another. Show some professionalism. You have swathes of angry customers and are refusing to even entertain their complaints.
In the past Mr. Sandro has really done the company a disservice with some of his statements.
Especially when those who enjoy the game had excellent suggestions, and his response was "that's Rubbish."
There's never a reason to insult your loyal customers. Never.
Don't get me wrong, I know when they get on these livestreams it's after hours and they're likely not at their best.
And there are also plenty of haters out there giving them grief.
But yes, it would be much better for him to say, "that's a great idea / something we are looking into, but we don't yet know if I'll be feasible."
In fact, in the fall livestreams I have heard him saying things like that more often, and haven't heard much of his old "one liners" insulting customer suggestions.
I'll try again in 12 months. Until then, Farcry 5 is proving to be pretty enjoyable and Kingdom Come Deliverance looks interesting.
Awesome idea. I keep checking on SC and NMS to see how they are doing - will be interesting to see if either leapfrog Elite.
there is a reason this game has mixed review ratio on steam, and that isn't because the gfx aren't good, nor is it the flight model or the game engine in any way ... in fact the only thing positive about the game are these aspects
unfortunately FD seems to firmly oppose adding actual content, meaning the game remains a barebone tech demo
the continued engineers revamps hints heavily towards "these guys are clueless"
so is writing negative reviews for games you don't play anymore
I agree the game isn't for everyone - open world games without a personal narrative / story arc never have as big an audience as say a Call of Duty or Destiny.
I think the mixed review highlight the fact that the game is certainly for some people and not for others.
If, 4 years in, it is apparent where ED is lacking go you there's little value in explaining it. You just have to look at the numerous threads on this forum to see there are a LOT of disgruntled players who feel FDev haven't even come close to delivering. This is supposed to be the year they get it all right, fix the mechanics...with each update they mess up. There's really an issue with leadership at FDev as they get it wrong every time. I'm now at the stage where I have to question if there is a structural is due with FDev. The management have to be held accountable. If all the naysayers start to leave, having given up hope, are you confident there are enough of the fan-boy faithful to keep the game going? I'm not sure.
Elite is not fully the game FDev described in their kickstarter, but it is a game many people enjoy playing.
That said, if they could add some of the things commonly requested I do believe more people would enjoy the game, however I'm sure there are some technical hurdles with many of the requests.
While I was very happy to received all the new features of 3.0, I've also been disheartened with all the XBOX bugs the update added.
I really wanted to work the new Ram Tah mission with my friends, but currently the game ALWAYS crashes when 3 or more meet up in srvs on the xbox, and my Ram Tah mission also keeps disappearing after a few days so I've given up for now.
While I am confident they will get all the bugs squished in time, I'll likely be playing something else Wednesday nights until the XBOX version is fixed.

P.S. The Q2 & Q3 updates are going to be mainly about adding content. (Which I take to mean story-centric content.)
I hope we also get more videos like the Ram Tah one, but I also hope the new missions actually work this time...
Yet you don't seem to understand what you paid for, which is what I believe their point is.
Those arguing for moar content are essentially asking not for more content but different content, and that of a kind that does not fit with the fundamental nature of ED.
I disagree that more content does not fit with the fundamental nature of the game.
All of the content discussed in the kickstarter that we haven't seen yet is fundamentally inline with the game since it's part of the original design...
Actually this isn't technically true. It was a marketing release. But the point is that my research consisted of the goals FDev themselves laid out. They have failed to meet them. No-one said it was a contractual obligation which is why I'm not sueing them. But It's ridiculous to say we can't hold them to account over anything if they aren't legally binded to it. So how does that work for a Kickstarter game then?
Many company marketing departments and even programmers get ahead of themselves and talk about goals and wishes that they latter are unable to add to their games.
While this should be expected, there's no reason we can't continue to remind them that we want "feature x" they mentioned in the kickstarter.
That's why I support every request for Space Legs, and why I also own and follow SC and NMS :-D
