Any tricks for finding high grade USS?

HGE's seem harder to find even in systems of high population it took 4 hours to find 8 and 6 of the 8 were proprietary composites and core dynamics composites in a system at war and one in civil unrest. The other 2 were military super capacitors.

It's working :)

pop 2.3b, war status, high security "crawling" along at c2.5 = 2 x HG USS so far gave me MGA and MSC which means the exploraconda can have g5 lightweight armor as planned.

Thanks again :)

Uhm... what ? Why bother with g5 lightweight armor ? Just take G5 heavy duty on the standard alloys and you're good to go as it adds nothing to the overall weight of 0 tons... ;)

DEEP SPACE

They have changed that since 3.02 to "Shipping Lanes". As far as providing "so-called" higher spawn rates for HGEs in any given system.

Personally, I am still on the fence as to whether or not there is that big a difference from before. But, since the change, Deep Space is definitely no longer spawning HGEs like it did pre 3.0.

Also, FYI OP... The STATE of the system determines what G5 mat will be contained within an HGE. A system in OUTBREAK for example will spawn "Pharmaceutical Isolators". A system in BOOM will spawn "Photo Radiolic Alloys" or "Photo Light Alloys".

If you are in Imperial Space... The above will be split between the default G5 which is "Imperial Shielding". Federation Space has their own default, but I can't remember what it is at the moment.

If you are in an Independent system, then ALL of the G5 mats that spawn in the HGEs will be whatever that system's current STATE would normally provide. Basically, a 50% increase in the amount of that specific G5 mat provided from all the HGEs over time. (No default G5 mat to share/split spawn rates with)

I explained it badly, I meant the lightweight mod on probably military grade composite.

Going for a compromise of low weight and survivability with a dash of frugality.

At the risk of upsetting all the people who swear by their own little systems, I don't think there is much of a "trick" to it - beyond being in the right part of space.

At the risk of contradicting the previous sentence, the only "trick" I use is to stick to a "sweet-spot" if I find one.

Arrive in a suitable system, head away from the orbital-plane at a speed of <50c and wait for the HGEs to start rolling in.
If the spawn rate starts to drop off, turn around and head back toward the star.

Main thing is to make sure you're in a suitable system and, if you're looking for a specific thing, make sure you're not in a system that can spawn other things as well.

I’m going with this. I have tried lots of these methods but the only consitency is that when you get them they seem to keep coming.

DEEP SPACE

^this

Make sure you move away from the shipping lane.

I’ve found a lot of HGEs this weekend.

In Lulua, they spawn close to each of the planets (Proto Heat Radiators, Proto Light Alloys and Proto Radiolic alloys)
Also, went to visit Selene Jean...she’s about 12,000 LS from the star....HGEs spawned from about 2kls from the star to about 2kls from the destination...got 4 in one trip last night....you just gotta fly relatively slow ... < 20c.

Hope this helps

Not the best advice I'm afraid.

No longer applies as of 3.0 and beyond. Shipping Lanes now have higher spawn rates than Deep Space. Deep Space rates were reduced in 3.0 from where it had been in 2.4.

Per the 3.0 Release Patch Notes: (last entry below)

Installations/POIs/USSs

  • Patched a hole in the geometry of the Shrogea MH-V e2-1763 Tourist Installation
  • Moved some shipping containers at the Torno 3 Maclaurin Reach surface base to prevent SRVs from becoming stuck
  • Fixed players sometimes not receiving Engineering data from scanning data points
  • Fixed instances of capital ships being aligned to the wrong side of Conflict Zones
  • Fixed a missing Uplink at Dav's Hope
  • Fixed some floating buildings at Conflux Settlements
  • Added docked capital ship to the Carthage system
  • Made some adjustments to the drop out distance to prevent players from dropping out of Supercruise inside the structure of a Megaship
  • Grounded a floating communications antenna at Dixon Dock
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing Data Uplinks from being targeted on Installations
  • Fixed Capital Ship in Distress USS being surrounded by ‘Clean’ Pirate NPCs
  • Fixed ships not showing as Wanted or having pre-existing bounties in Resource Extraction Sites
  • Fixed an issue whereby ships could be recalled while at unsafe locations

  • Increased the spawn rate of High Grade Emissions USSs in shipping lanes and by planets

Yes, I'm finding many of them closer to the plane and in shipping lanes now.

Or even as the first USS after dropping into a system:

I got multiple back to back HGEs yesterday.

I *really* hope FDev do something about making HGE's easier to find in future. I've spent hours this weekend trying to find Improvised Components. Can't find *any* HGE's in *any* Civil Unrest system in *any* of the usual HGE spawn locations.

3 hours of waiting with nothing to show for it, except my dead, empty soul. [ugh]

3 hours later. Gave up on finding Improvised Components and headed to Achenar to find Imperial Shielding instead.

Found 2 HGE's within the first 30 mins. Then zero after 2 more hours.

Here's what I did find during those 2 hours of waiting:

* 30 x Encoded Emissions
* 30 x Degraded Emissions
* 10 x Distress Calls
* 5 x Convoy Dispersal Patterns

One other thing I noticed - High Grade Emissions spawn rates appear to be related to the number of NPC ships present in SuperCruise. The more NPC's in your Contacts, the more chance there is of HGE's spawning (or vice versa).

No NPC's means no HGE's - not even in a system with 12 billion people.

Not sure if this post is any use to anyone. But typing it helps relieve the boredom of staring at my nav panel.

****ing bull is what this is, nothing works with any dependability. I just spent two hours in Arcturus, pop 400 mill, less than 20 USS's, not a single HGE.

Not really helpful when you're farming something specific like you are now, but I've made a habit of targeting every single USS I come across during normal gameplay just to see what type it is. Most of the time it's something I don't care about and I continue with my journey, but HGE's occur often enough to make scanning them worthwhile.

I retrieve everything. I'm a dog. :)

This above works for me too. I fly from the star at approx normal to the main orbital plane and fly towards an easily identifiable reference, like the LMC or some nebula. I only go to systems with a pop > 1 billion. Fly at a speed between 10-20c and then at some point the HGEs start to come more frequently. If the HGEs stop coming I turn around and fly back toward the star, same speed as before, until they start up again. And when they stop I turn around and start flying out towards the reference point. And so on so I am basically flying back and forth along roughly the same line. After a while you get a feel for where the "good" region starts and stops. I've seen this clustering happen in multiple systems so I don't think it is a fluke.

in deep space, drop to lowest possible SC speed. They will appear, you won't have to wait for the countdown.

Regarding the mats, now that missions also give them (sometimes) is there any rules to the offers, or completely random?

One trick is....
1, Wear an itchy fully starched jumper to remain conscious .
2, Attach rubber duck to head.
3, Repeat ‘wimble’ ‘womble’ sixteen times in a row while burning a candle in front of a mirror.

This my friends is as good as any advice you will receive today.... or any other day for locating the HGE of your choice.

Flimley
