Anyone else finding SERIOUS problems with the SRV throttle?

Not sure what the problem is exactly, whether it is to do with the 'drive assist' but the throttle on my SRV's has a serious 'mind of it's own problem. I didn't really play Horizons so I don't know if it has always been as it is, whether it's changed or whether it's just me?
I will try to do a couple of videos to show the problem but until then I will try to describe what is happening:
So I have my throttle set up so that my primary control for it is the mouse wheel (as it is for my ship) and set to 10% incremental. I push the throttle forward 1 notch and there is nearly always a lag of about 2 seconds before the wheels start moving (mostly). The same for stopping. but it is horribly inconsistent. I mean it works, just, I can get from A to B and I can pick up stuff with the cargo scoop, but most of the time I am fighting against the throttle to do what I want it to do as opposed to what it seems to want to do. It will very often 'stick' and seem to stop moving. And then just when you think it's stopped, even if the throttle is showing 0, it will suddenly decide to move again! But I then go to do something else and the throttle will suddenly move by itself and I will be doing 12m/s!! Especially a pain when I try to stop under the ship or pick up cargo, I have to 'blip' the throttle, forward, off, forward, off, reverse, off just to maintain control.
If I switch off 'drive assist' then the mouse wheel no longer works! What? Please Frontier, someone, sort this out or tell me what I need to change to make it useable.
It's now become my biggest Odyssey headache, and it's 'driving' me nuts!
PS. It does seem to be the drive assist and with it turned off it drives A LOT better. But why does my 'mouse wheel throttle' not work without drive assist!!???

Maybe something in your settings.
I have my SRV running from my gamepad.
Forward & Reverse on right hand joystick, left & right turning on the left joystick.
I always ride it drive assist off

Have the same problem the OP describes. I use the keyboard to accelerate etc. The difference to Horizons is enorm. Most annoying is the delay between pressing the key and the SRV moving. Which is quite contrary to modern electric cars. The delay is esp. on low-G planets totally unrealistic.

So, currently I tend to accelerate too much and the buggy goes crazy.

Same problem here. I tried drive assist off but wasn't usable because you have to keep the key depressed or you lose all momentum. If you're using the mouse scroll wheel (my preference) then it takes many many scrolls to increment the throttle. If they could just fix this lag time issue on the incremental 10% throttle setting, it would be fine. I was meaning to post about this so thank you OP

Yup, it's pretty monkeys for me. Not sure why but sometimes I have to go full power for the SRV to start moving and then it just takes off so I throttle down is almost immediately stops. It does it on flat level ground so I am at a loss.

turning drive assist off is super useful, as is turning off auto land

Same problem as well. The over throttling by itself seems to occur mainly on bumpy terrain. I have made sure I have exactly the same settings as Horizons and it doesn't happen there. I actually filed an bug report on issue tracker for it during the alpha.

no change for me so far - I use a Warthog Hotas setup and an Aussydroid Enhanced 4.3 Profile , and always have Drive Assist off and the SRV drives as normal - apart from the rockier terrain on ground making things more bumpy

I might be wrong, but drive assist off means analog throttle control, not setting a level like with it on. So makes sense you can't control it with the mouse wheel. On the Xbone pad it is bound to the trigger which is pressure sensitive, that's how you apply throttle. That is not doable on a digital input like a keyboard or mouse. That's why i think it doesn't work, but you should have something instead.

I've not noticed this but it's reminded me that during ground missions it won't let me adjust my pips. They're stuck at 4 for Engine and 1 for weapons and shields.

I'm seeing something very similar, same using either joystick or keys. There is a lag, then the throttle runs away completely even though I've incremented it once and I have that set to the minimum. Going to try turning drive assist off as suggested

Yup, throttle response is terrible on HOTAS too. Just one more thing that is inexplicably different from horizons. So many changes to things that seem completely arbitrary and that nobody asked for. Good thing they are beta testing!

I always ride it drive assist off

And that is why. On DA on the throttle sucks. It's like some curve is applied and there is almost no resolution on the low side and all of the resolution is packed into the mid-range. So trying to drive slowly or maneuver in a tight place is seriously difficult.

DA off should not be needed for consistent linear throttle.
