Anyone else getting better performance with update 15?

If you want the best out of the game, what's the recommended pc and card specification?

I've read:

CPU: Intel Core i5-8600 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: 12 GB
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 (6 GB VRAM) / AMD RX 580 (8 GB VRA M)

?

'Best out of the game' is the fastest hardware you can manage, though more than six to eight physical cores won't bring any benefits.

An i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 2600 will manage, especially when paired with quick memory, but are not ideal. Both the GTX 1060 and RX 580 are quite low-end for Odyssey. They'll work, but won't make for appealing visuals or particularly high frame rates. 12GiB of system memory will suffice, if nothing else is running, but is pretty borderline.\

If one is building a new system from scratch and planning to run Odyssey on it, I wouldn't look at anything less than a 12th gen Intel i5, or a Ryzen 5 7000 series, for the CPU. GPU will heavily depend on what resolution you're planning on running and if you're into VR or not, but in general, looking at less than an RTX 4060 or RX 6700 is a bad idea. There is also zero reason to put less than 16GiB of memory in a new build, with 32GiB being the sweet spot.

It also depends on the resolution (here 4K)
i7 13700K, RTX 4090, 32GB DDR5
The CPU seems to be bored.

That's not quite true.
That CPU % value is for the overall processing power from ALL the cores in your CPU - which is 24 (8 hyperthreaded P-cores and 8 singlethreaded E-cores)
A load of 13% could mean 2-3 cores fully loaded and the rest doing nothing - with your general performance in the game being limited by those 3 cores that are fully loaded

Sure, that was just an example - in my own case i usually have 4 cores at 70%+ some other 4 cores to 30%+ and some other cores at under 10% - and all these in a system with a 16 hyperthreaded P-cores (well, the AMD equivalent - Ryzen 9 7945HX - a 16C32T config)

And to make matters worse, the polling time of those tools is usually way too long to detect load spikes. While you can detect if your CPU is under constant, sustained load with tools like Afterburner, load spikes will be undetected and disappear in a low average load.

Thanks, my current 1060 was OK, certainly fine in space, but it's paired with an old i5 4590, so it unsurprisingly struggles on planetary bases.

Having to turn the graphics down for one part of the game to play the other was a part of why I stopped playing...

Will i get away with a RTX 4060 with 8GB, or do I really need 12gb?

Not fussed about massively high frame rates anything about 60fps is fine.

The RTX 4060 at sub-300GPB is a pretty decent value and will handle Odyssey just fine.

That said, if you plan on playing other games and want to keep this GPU for more than a year or two, getting something with more VRAM would be a good idea.

Bit of a late update, but just received delivery of a new PC.

CPU : Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Motherboard : Gigabyte X670 Gaming X AX V2
RAM : 32GB RAM
GPU : GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16gb Jetstream Edition

Pretty sure I won't have any issues running anything, ever. Best bit I didn't pay a penny 😍

Can't wait to get ED fired up.... ❤️

Just need to choose a new monitor. No idea what to choose.

Game runs beautifully. The 4080 super is a bit of a monster!
