Anyone else thinking of asking for a refund?

Heh.

Reminds me of 'Asheron's Call' Game shut down by Turbine in the not terribly distant past.

There were seven (if memory serves) servers. One full on total PvP all the time. The others were all PvE with PvP flags.

The insults flung by the PvP server crowd at the PvE server crowd, well, it rivals what you see here.

The PvP server had the lowest population, the highest lag and caused the most strain on it's servers (because generally, the population was more spread out, everyone being afraid to be near another player).

Anytime ANYTHING was balanced for PvE the screaming about the game catering to carebears was deafening. To be fair, balance for PvP also elicited screaming, though usually not of the same magnitude.

My point? It's been done that way, moderately successfully. AC lived for years. ED could do worse than follow that example...

Aye, like walking back the "all modes equal" stance, stripping features out of some and making them exclusive to others?

Definitely a path of self-destruction by way of comparison. They really could improve the game for everyone, instead.

To follow that example would require some very fundamental changes. After all, wouldn't want someone to move from open PvE after maxing out their PvE meta ship. They should have separate CMDR saves for each open. And that's just the very first thing that comes to mind.

Indeed. And two separate servers would have two separate saves.

As far as fundamental changes... I'd say the removal of PP from PG/Solo is a pretty fundamental change. If they're willing to change that, then let's raise the ante.

I've noticed a trend of how long elite dangerous has been out, increasing. How is December 2014 , 6 years ago? Its 3.5 years . Not 5, not 6.

That's about the only thing worthy of discussion in your post. Sorry. Not a slight against you, just the topic (open only pp)itself I meant.

Happy to discuss.

General Release has been out 4 years. There were two years of work on it prior to that....so I've been told.

If you look at the "oldest" of the forum members, you'll see a 2012 join date, for Staffers, CM's, Mods, Affiliates, Kickstarters etc.

The rest of us got here around Christmas 2014.

While I'll never ask for a refund for a game that has brought me enjoyment even for a few days, I do vote with my wallet when it comes to the current state of games like Elite Dangerous. For example, updates to ED have brought some serious graphical downgrades to the PS4 Slim, and I've made it very clear to Frontier that I won't be buying any more cosmetics from their store until they fix these and other bugs that have devalued my initial purchase. In fact, I've stopped playing the game until the next update (thus Open is just a little more empty in PS4 space). Whether or not this will motivate Frontier is yet to be seen, but if nothing else, I have more money in my pocket for other games until FDev gets their act together regarding bug fixes and QA.

The big difference between me and OP is that I don't think there's a strong opposing view that says, "Keep the bugs in the game, Frontier!" whereas there is clearly a large group of proponents who actually want the changes that the OP is against. That's where "voting with my wallet" is truly a vote, as the majority will likely win.

I'm in a very similar longboat.

I bought the base game on release day, and pre-ordered Horizons. I feel I've had more than my money's worth out of those two purchases and it would be unfair for me to try and claw back those transactions. With 1000+ hours in the seat, it would be a terrible thing to try and get away with for me personally. I can see why those in the same position with very few hours played, that are still waiting for the game they paid for to turn up might want to though.

I also stopped making Store purchases two years ago, except for the books. However, with the continuation of the suggestions of half baked design ideas, being implemented and touted to the present day....I don't think it helped much. Sound and Graphics have improved no end though, well done those people.

As for the LEP I purchased in 2015. That's just been sitting in FD's bank account ever since and not been spent. I've seen no benefit from it what-so-ever. So if Beyond turns out to be another marketing exercise, supported by the usual scenario of "welcome to pointless features part 3, only slightly worse than pointless features part 2", then I'll be having that back.

Moving forward, if the Designers manage to stumble across a point and offer some premium content of value, or indeed if FD decide to finally switch the lights on and change the approach, I'll consider purchasing the next thing after Beyond.

But no more money up front.

I have zero confidence they can spend it wisely, to progress the ideology and vision of the game itself and the institution it represents.

I thought the Engineers was as low as it was possible to go in bad game design, but here FD is thinking about changing the basic nature of the game after we bought it.
Not that i really care whether pp is open only or not, but just on the principle that FD shouldnt be rewarded for changing the basic nature of the product from what was advertised and sold, I am thiniking about asking for a refund. This sets a precedent i dont want to see play out.
A vendor removing basic features from a product after its sold and the money is in the vendors pocket seems unethical, maybe fradulent, and possibly illegal.

Nope, ~4000 hrs in, I think I've had my moneys worth (paid for the game three times) Try to apply the same argument as to why FD made engineers less of a ********. How do you think the people that ground modules out before the improvements feel after spending 100's of hours getting good rolls?

My guess is a bit miffed, but the game is better for it.

Not sure I understand the issue. What basic nature of the game is being changed?

I very much doubt you will be able to get a refund if you have been playing a long time.

BGS is next. It only makes sense. People that dont "see" this, are the people that yesterday thought "all modes are equal".

Sorry..

Sorry..

It makes no sense for the BGS to be open only. Not one little bit.

The quote was "all modes will be equally valid". Removing Powerplay from solo or private groups does not invalidate solo or PGs. Removing the BGS from those modes removes the entire game from those modes. That would make those modes not valid.

Imagine you read a post, after which you fully understand the issue.

That's the basic nature of the game being changed.

Well, the nature of the game isn't being changed, so I fail to see the issue.
