Horizons Anyone else using a Keelback?

I bought one to try the planet landings. I'm looking for a new ship though as this one seems to be just about horrible for anything. Unless someone can tell me why I should keep it? I really don't see anything special about it, other than it handles like it looks, if you're into whale riding I guess it's ok.

It's a mish mash ship as far I understand. Save up for a more purposeful ship. the Asp is super for landings I find with its every side pointing away from the ground shape.

Haha, whale riding, that meant something else when I was younger.. The ship is ok, definitely not a heavy ship, just a bulkier T6. I have a couple dotted around the galaxy, haven't really found a use for them. I've found it handles ok, always enjoyed flying the T6.

The ship is definitely geared to newer players climbing the trade ladder and wanting a little bit more safety. I find it a little strange that it can carry a fighter ship onboard.

Ya, I miss my Vulcan and Asp but, in my haste to try Horizons planets landings (been away from ED for months) I bought one to load up with the SRV. I thought maybe since it was "new" it must have something going for it. Guess I was wrong lol.

I've never had more than 10 million credits at one time as I'm not into trading,so us fighting men/women have fewer choices in ships, unless *shudder* we trade for billions a week or so.

On a side note, whale riding had a different meaning for me too, a few decades ago (I'm 45) until I had my first daughter with Thyroid issues. I'm not condemning you, just live and learn I suppose.

Thanks for the replies anyway Cmdrs.

You should try the Asp Scout, handles very nice and the price is good too. I often use a scout for general planetary exploration. Yeah mate, apologies, hadn't heard that phrase in decades, tbh mate I'm not the kinda person to judge people on appearances, never have never will.

Give the scout a try, I think you'll like it!

Thanks man. I know what you mean, so no worries, we were all young once so I'll not hold you accountable for your when you were a youth as I sure hope no one holds me to mine ;)

Kinda like butterface I suppose, if I had known then what I know now lol.

I know that it's probably not really a good reason for anyone else, but I like Lacon cockpits, but always had issues with Asps. T6 and now Keelback, too have much cozier bridge. So that's why I prefer her and not Asp Scout. I feel more comfortable in Keelback.
As far as usefulness go, well, I am past the stage where one is chasing after the money and can now lay back. So I use ships that "feel good" and Keelback is one of them. :)
There are many ships that can fight better, there are many ships that trade better, but aren't there always, after all?

Looking forward to "park" the keelback mid-air, and go through some canyons with a condor!

(Oh wait... What will happen to the ship then?)

I have a hunch that some of the launchable fighters will be more lethal and survivable than their CQC brethren.

Now, I wonder how much it will matter whether you've left a multi-crew player or AI in charge of piloting the "broad side of a barn"

Yeah I agree, we should definitely be able to heavily A spec the Condor and Imperial fighter. What I found strange is that the description says it can launch fighters, if that is the case I would expect all the other larger ships to be able to launch fighters (Asp/T7/T9/Clipper/FDL etc)

As far as I'm aware the only ships capable of launching fighters is the Keelback/FAS/Anaconda/Cutter/Corvette

Doesn't the federal dropship have a launch bay? I'm thinking that maybe the Keelback is a dropship for fledgling factions, academically speaking.

I just bought Keelback just for fun. I have anaconda, Fas and Asp but I´m using Keelback just for fun :D Literally for fun. Not trying to earn money but doing random missions to planetary stations and playing a space captain.

I have 2 class 2 dumbfire for attacking outposts and mc and a pulse turret for fighters. I would die immediately agaisnt a griefer, but have enough money for insurances :)

Its a nice ship with good view.

On the Distant worlds trip in a Keelback. Not the best ship for it to be honest and I'm so far behind that when I get to Sag A I will turn around and come back. It's not the best ship on the planet, but will be interesting when the fighter turns up to use. Think I will go back to a Cobra for most of my stuff when I get back.

Thanks for the clarification LKx. @Monk, not sure.. nothing has been mentioned by the devs and no ingame description.

Yep, it's the FGS. You can clearly see it in the Screenshots, and it's mentioned in the Wiki:

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Federal_Gunship

All ships capable of carrying fighters already have visible fighter bays. I assume they just have to be 'activated' by FD, like they did with the Planetary approach module. I doubt it will be an extra module that we'll have to buy or would take an internal compartment.
Wouldn't make sense, as the space for it is already there, just not used by now.
