Anyone had a tip off?

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had a tip off message? I recieved one last night saying to go to a ceti sector system with co ordinates to land and scan some items. Has anyone else had these messages at all and if so what do you get for following the instructions?
Thank o7

i had a couple of them months ago, but i haven't got any since..

I would really like to know what triggers them.. Really like those missions.

And Developer reading this might give us a hint?? :D

Since it happened to me frequently while ranking at wu guinagi I guess it has something to do with the number of missions you do for a minor faction.

I had two or three last week, I never bother with them though, the payouts are minimal and sometimes they consume a lot of time.

When i was hammering Ceos and Sothis data transfer missions for MTs a couple of weeks ago I got four of them. Still in my inbox. I'll post the coordinates for them later if anyone wants to go a hunting, and they're still in my inbox.

I only bothered looking for first one as it was a 3G planet and I stupidly didn't notice. Came in hot. Too hot. Oops sorry Python.

I never had any tip off missions before that tho so just try hammering data transfer missions and see if you get one.

I think one needs the Tip Off in their Inbox to get the wreckage (or whatever is there) to spawn. Had one once that I accidentally deleted but had written down the coordinates. Never could find anything at the coords once I got there. Previous TOs I got I was able to find the wreckage at the coords while the TO was in my Inbox.

Oh well, they do say they give you "the acces key for the core" or "encryption key" too so that may be why.

But, if anyone wants a look to see, and they are in the area, the ones currently in my inbox now are;

Athena, A 2, lat -10.49, lon 26.65 this crash site i saw, but only got about 30k cr for the data as i took a couple of days to go find it.

Lp 798-44, A 1, lat 42.51 lon -131.44

Ceti Sector HR-W c1-16, A 1, lat 27.68 lon17.54

Nguna, 1, lat 18.39 lon 50.61

All our theories and its just a countdown timer [haha], just genius.

Hi there,

This is not what spawns Tip Off messages... I've not previously given away the secrets so I'm tempted to let it stay a mystery for now...

As for the timer, I don't remember Dav speaking about the non-station missions, but I did in my Q&A just before christmas.

Staying in a game area, undocked, in a populated system, for 15 minutes will trigger a call for a mission. You won't necessarily get one, nor will you necessarily know you've got one. The request will go out, though.

Most of these missions are hidden to start with and just subtly manipulate the game world around you by spawning ships or USS events. Once you've performed an pertinent action, you get an inbox message with further details.

Hope this helps,
Dom

Literally did the exact same thing. First tip-off mission, went to check it out in my Python, was cruising at about 1kM above the surface on a 3g planet, started descending to the crash site, didn't notice how fast I was descending... Boom. So, I built an Adder just for tip-offs. Much cheaper to make mistakes in.

Also, I might add that not all tip-offs are to crash sites. I got one that took me to a high security base.. Let's just say I didn't get my scan, but a very quick trip back to the station I was last in.

...I've gotten 1.7 million credits from the one and only time I've gotten a tip-off. 13 jumps away from where I was. Seems like the amount can vary drastically.

Wow, actual info from a dev in the Xbox section! Thanks, Dom!

Yes, cheers dom
Although I'm sure I wasn't undocked for very long when transfer data mission farming.
I don't mind if you keep the secret sauce hidden though :D

If anyone finds anything at any of my coordinates tho, please reply as I'm curious.
