Anyone posted the changes for Exploration in 2.3?

I'm long past caring about the actual rank (got to 2 billion exploration credits yesterday ;)) but I don't see the point in making the highest achievement in a profession so easy to get. Might as well not bother at all.

Agreed, this was always why I wanted higher payouts for planet scans, because buckyball jonking should never have paid more than actual exploration. It was just bad game mechanics favoring tepid gameplay. The payouts for 2.3 look pretty good overall to me, I hope they go live with them.
You still get a 6th of the DSS value from jonking so it's not going to change things all that much (ie you also get a lot more from jonking now). It does change it a bit since the increases are not across the board and all those 500 credit jonked moons add up over time and they are now worth comparatively less than before.

What it really changes is to make full scans much less valuable compared to selective scanning. From a credit POV, there never was any real point in bothering with gas giants, rocky moons, ice worlds etc before and there is much less reason now.

Overall this change greatly encourages selective scanning.

If the intention had been to make all scanning more attractive and jonking less then they should have made the DSS scans worth a higher multiple, eg 10 or even 20x.

They ought to leave it the way it is, and just increase the first discovery bonus x2-x3....just my 2 cents...
Kind of what I would want as well. Rewards scanning over jonking and encourages people to go where others have not. The only downside I can really think of is that it is going to take ever longer as time goes on to get beyond the belt of mostly discovered systems. But balancing that out, it is obvious that jump ranges are only going to get longer and longer.

Hmm. All very valid points (out of rep). I forgot that jonk values are raised as well. More thinking required on my part before I dare to open a Beta thread - though I lean towards higher relative values (honk 5% of full scan or something like that).

I’ve been feeling myself slipping this way too lately: spending more time on the forums than playing the game. I want to play Elite, I still want to explore, but when I contemplate starting the game up I almost feel a weight of sadness at the very prospect of it.
For all the bad shtick the forums get, especially Dangerous Discussions, I enjoy them. There's some really zany characters in the community who'll throw the unexpected curveball from time to time. The one thing I'll never understand is those who won't ever be satisfied with the game hanging around just to tell everyone how boring it all is.

Haven't played for 3 months, I'll get the 2.3 update and check out some moons, since I'm still invested in exploring so I'll want to see the developments. With regard to the 3 pet peeves I have with this game, I expect one of them to be fixed in 2.4. I cannot imagine that planet appearances are so low down the priority list that they won't spend some development time on it the next cycle. The other one is regarding exploring mechanics. I don't expect much for 2.4, but season 3 is going to be make or break. If there isn't talk of significant and extensive exploration mechanics upgrades, that would be game over for me. I can't see myself be occupied with inventing reasons to go out into deep space and after 18 months those are growing pretty thin.

I think multicrew was my breaking point. I really thought they would at least have something there for explorers, anything, and when I found out that we are getting no functionality at all with multicrew, well I simply think it broke my patience.

I feel like I’ll be putting Elite aside soon while I wait for Frontier to add some mechanics to exploration. I might do some trading, or some salvaging or mining now and then, I might even work on my combat rank, but that won’t hold my interest for long. I want to explore the galaxy in Elite, it’s why I bought the game, but until they actually add something to do out there other than honk and jump, something to find other than screenshots, well I feel like I’ve lost the drive to even bother anymore.
Putting Elite aside for a while isn't the end of the world. And even if season 3 turns out to be void of anything exploration, that would be a real shame, but considering what I already got out of Elite in terms of exploration experiences, it's already unique in that regard.

If I were to quit, I'd be looking back with a lot of satisfaction. Hardest thing to leave behind would be the community.

Yep, as will I. I’ve played Elite for hundreds of hours, literally, so it’s not like I hate the game! I’m just bored with it, mostly due to exploration being consistently neglected. And even if I skip S3, and even S4 or S5, if S6 ends up being the Exploration Development Gift from God, then I’d probably buy it and start playing again full force. For now though, I’m taking a break, and how long that break is remains entirely up to Frontier.

To be optimistic, I think FD is saving the best for last. Once atmosphere landable planets come out. OMG. I think that gameplay will destroy everything else in the game. Unless FD really screws the pooch....then I don't know what will help.

For me the only exploration related stuff that truly matters, is the variety of bodies we can find and the landscapes on planets we can land on/fly into (gas giants). So for now I will probably hang around in the bubble (being there is vastly better than before!) with perhaps short excursions outside - I think the alien storyline will get ever more interesting.
But I also hope season 3 brings an updated galaxy, so that the call of the deep void will be made great again. :)

So there's a new beta update out - see the changelog here - and there's nothing in the logs about exploration rank requirements getting fixed. But then, it might simply be missing, because it also doesn't include the Orca's 580 T -> 290 T base hull mass change. So, could somebody try whether they fixed exploration rank progression or not please?

Patch today (just now, in fact) states:
* Adjusted the amount of exploration ranking awarded from selling exploration data to be 50% of the credits value, 20% of the credits value of Passenger Sightseeing missions and 40% of Long Distance expedition missions

Assuming ELW values are still ~ x10, that's some ~450-500 ELWs (without FD bonus) to Elite. I feel a revised ELW Tour coming on, the rank is already pointless anyway.

FWIW, I'm enjoying Exploration and the galaxy as it stands, so I'm happy to take any updates to exploration that do appear as a bonus. Atmospheric flight (and hopefully gas giant flight / scooping) when they eventually arrive should be great.

Well, I think I could argue it was always mostly pointless anyway, but this still makes ranking up exploration roughly five times faster than it was before. I suppose that's what Frontier want.
Personally, I think this all could have been handled considerably better, without having to spend much more effort, but at least

Apparently multi-crew is enabled now for the latest beta patch, so if anyone is on later give me a shout and it'd be nice to see what the heck we can actually do with it :)

Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful holo-relationship!

Oops - just realised I am no longer in The Abyss having SD'd for the beta and am back in the Bubble, of course . . .

I learned a few things this evening:

Having a live player fly your fighter is unutterably cool
Multi-Crew is hugely buggy
Dr Kaii couldn't hit the side of a barn at 10 ft. I mean he is just THE worst shot in the Galaxy ;)

Session disconnects abound, plus game crashes and appallingly bad frame rates when jumping if someone is in your ship. (this is with a 1080GTX) Looks like they have a way to go.

but... seriously... don't let Dr Kaii control your guns... [hotas]

I wasnt active in the game or forums in a while so i have to ask :
Whats the story behind the two systems getting named after Chiggy and Macedonica? Did i miss some epic adventure again D:

Epic adventure? Nah, not really - just a couple of explorers meeting up in deep space. You know, the usual (coughs and mumbles something about a mining laser and Germanium . . .).

This is why i love you guys, the Exploration Community that makes the impossible possible. That Thread was an amazing read indeed.
Whenever someone stands before an impossible task, someone here will say something like " ha, i need to try this" or " well actually i did that the other day already, with a badly damaged sidewinder , only 5ly jumprange and while i had some Thargoid chasing me around" :D
You are one of the Reasons that make this game so good. Keep being Bonkers guys o7
