Anyone posted the changes for Exploration in 2.3?

In my opinion, the best way to handle any theoretical future exploration multicrew sessions (with Frontier's above design criteria in mind) is to have every commander on board share exploration data equally, with the single caveat that only the ship owner gets first discovery tags.

As I understand it having a second human man your turrets or fly your SLF can make you more effective as a combat vessel and so means you make more money and therefore it is only right that the other player gets a cut. There would have to be a mechanic that allowed two players in the same ship to make exploration money more effectively than one on their own to justify credits for the passenger, IMO.

I don't know what that would be but unless it exists giving the passenger exploration data would just feel wrong to me.

Well like I said, I think it should be "neutral" data, something the crew can sell for credits but doesn't reward first discoveries nor BGS effects. Mostly just a credit "voucher" of sorts, it's exploration data in name only, not true data.

As to what the crew can do to earn their keep on an exploration boat, these are a few ideas off the top of my head:

- man the 360° detail scanner ala the "gunner" position
- monitor the nav panel and/or gal map while jonking to watch for anything interesting along the way
- drive SRV's on planet surfaces
- fly an Exploration SLF which can travel in supercruise (but no system jumps, just SC) and can scan planets, thereby fully scanning a system faster

It's a pipe dream, I admit. [sad]

I think it must be noted, that we are at the end of the Horizons cycle and FDev is probably gearing up to pack the content of Season 3 - which should be probably close to its final shape.
This probably means the more and more resources are diverted into it and also FDev wants to keep the best of 'incremental' features for the next season.

Is there any major gaming event in Q2 when FDev could announce something?

Beta 2.3 Update #3 just added this note:
"Rebalanced ships: DBX now has an extra size 2 slot and is a bit lighter, Asp Scout has a new size 2 slot and a size 5 slot replacing one of it's size 4 ones. Beluga mass brought more in line with other large ships to help FSD range"

So I jumped in quick to the beta, and tested things out. However, Coriolis beta is already updated with the latest changes, so Commanders without beta access can toy around too.

The DBE's extra internal slot is great. The jump range increase surprised me though: in this regard, it's now on par with the Anaconda. In theory, it could even have a slightly higher jump range, dethroning the king: in practice, it would be a useless build. So the Anaconda is still the best, but the #2 spot is shared between the AspE and the DBE now. Overall, I'd say this is a good thing: the Asp still has more internals and considerably better scooping than the DBE, and it also has a multicrew seat (for showing off your discoveries). So you can choose either to have some more range on the lightest builds, or more versatility from the Asp.
And hey, if #AspsInFrontOfThings becomes #Asps&DiamondbacksInFrontOfThings, in my opinion that would be pretty good.

Basically, the Beluga is on par with the other passenger ships now, which is pretty good. It's a pity it's still "fuel scoop, shield generator, fighter bay: choose two of three", but hey.

As for the Asp Scout, well... The changes are good, but I don't really see it seeing more use. Maybe it would be good for planetary exploration, if it had much better forward speed.

Great changes, I think: With Dolphins, DBEs and Orcas among the top-range ships that can fit everything you need, there is now quite a lot of diversity, with choices that don't seem like sacrifices (maneuverability, scooping speed, canopy, passengers, multicrew).

I like it. Next step: More gameplay.

Also in the new beta:

- Crew members now have access to the helm's exploration data while part of a crew, however, crew members will not gain any new exploration data earned while part of the crew

Not really sure what the first part means - access to the galaxy map data?

Edit: Oh, yeah, the Asp Scout ... No, I got nothing.

I think the DBE is going to top out at about 66 LY so not quite on par with the Conda, but ahead of the Asp in full stripped down & modded Buckyball mode.

I think that means scans on bodies in the system. So while you're part of a crew, you see the scan data on bodies in the system on stuff that you haven't scanned (because you haven't been there before) but the helm has. (For example, she scanned some bodies before you jumped into the seat.) However, once you get back to your own ship, you won't get to keep the scan data.
I'm not sure how exactly it was before, because I never tried exploration in multicrew in the beta.

Yeah, like I posted in the beta update thread, these ship balance changes are all great. The DBX can finally be outfitted properly for exploration, and it now outjumps the Asp X!!! I love that, because it has a much slower scoop and less internals but there is still a benefit to the DBX now, it has a purpose and is finally useful!!!!

With the Orca, Dolphin, and now the DBX all seriously great ranged ships and viable for serious exploration, man the sad and bleak ship choice graph from the DWE will truly be a thing of the past very soon:

That's me in the Keelback! :D
DBX is great news indeed, I might buy one and name it 'Colonia Express'.

Is there an "after" graph showing the details of those ships that completed the DWE?

Also, Tiana Fortune only requires a Friendly standing with the Empire, not a naval rank: that can be achieved easily, and lost later.

Also, as I've just now discovered, Tiana Fortune is in the Achenar system, which is permit locked, and you need Empire rank of Squire or higher in order to get said permit. So yeah, I'll need to grind some Empire rank in order to get to her.

Up to the official end date, yeah, including success rate per ship type. I can post it later.

Edit: Here it is - this was the success rate as of April 29 last year, though the initial numbers are, if I recall correctly, not quite correct:

Yep they saved the lemon! But best thing now explorers all have a choice of ship and we arnt all shoehorned into an asp

Conda still is king on range in any usable build

DBx can jump further than the asp but it still scoops like a pensioner so won't win any races

aspx still has an amazing 55ly odd range but coupled with a 6a scoop multicrew and more slots

not to mention the new kids on the block - orca and dolphin both with respectable exploration build ranges

and then hen there is the beluga!

that's 6 ships to pick from (excluding the usual suspects of hauler t6 etc)

2.3 has really given us choice I like it :)
