Anyone read the..

Oh no! We nearly got-away without mentioning THE GAME; this was about Forum-thingies.

No red numbers appearing yet so it must have been on-topic. Unless their algorithm (edit: forum background simulation?) isn't working.

Has anyone ever had a decent conversation on a leniently moderated forum without 100 idiots chiming in with their idiocy??
In my extensive forum experience it usually leads to a few small groups of morons turning the place into a battlefield.

I used to mod on a biker forum. Surprisingly the ban hammer was rarely called for... probably coz (being bikers) there were very few under 25's on it, it was run by and for adults, and stupidity was usually shot down pretty quick.

There's a forum i use based on an esports game that is really popular. When someone gets banned for a post a big red message appears USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST

Its a small touch, but it really helps keep the peace.

At 15 points, forum accounts will be suspended permanently.
At 100 points, this will result in immediate forum account termination.'
The difference to me would be: You can appeal against a permanent account suspension (e.g. by a mail to the moderators saying you're really, really, really sorry). When an account is terminated, on the other hand, it's gone.

Sounds fine to me. Comprehensive rules are the only way to avoid getting sucked into lengthy dialogue with forumers via PM, which is immensely time-consuming when you're a volunteer mod and have an actual life outside the forums.

While I can add that very easily here, it's something that I won't be implementing. :)

The downside being, of course, that it provides ammunition for anyone who feels that the mods are not being consistent - since they can probably find 'similar' posts elsewhere by others without that big red message. And being consistent as a mod is very difficult, if not impossible, because of all the shades of grey.

Sure. Let's turn this into 4chan. Next we'll have traps, furries, bronies, bananas, inb4 and dubs posts galore.

Then again, might be an improvement...

What sort of amazes me that the new forum rules don't forbid linking content that is violating the rules, for example to reddit
