Anyone witness SALVATION TRIGGERS SUPERWEAPON VICTORY?

EDIT: This post thread started in May with the previous Salvation Super Weapon.


The mysterious Salvation story line has been running for months.
Then, "Salvation Triggers Superweapon Victory"
and an article with a random picture of a Thargoid on it:

Any one see the weapon go off?
Did it look cool?
Was the end of the invasion by Thargoids (for now) just some stranger pressed a button and now the Thargoids are gone?
Is.... that it?
Is 176 words in an article all that brings this to an end?
It just all feels like a lot of nothing. Brushed off in a hurry.

Not expecting block buster movie cinematics, but a 1 minute of animation or even some pictures of the event that you would expect to see in a newspaper article would go along way to bring the event to life. After all, we get war correspondents in conflict zones all the time. Where were they for this climatic event?

How do we actually know that the resulting victory in these systems was not won by independent pilots? I mean the CG figures were quite overwhelming and probably enough to not just withstand the incursion but drive them out.
If nobody witnessed that super weapon, maybe it didn't work?

It didn't happen during the server tick. The thargoids were still there for about 3 hours afterwards, then they disappeared and Galnet said the thargoid presence in those systems was eliminated.
So technically we should have been able to witness it, but of course there was nothing to see. You'd think the least they could do was send a system wide message in those systems, like the inane cold feet wedding messages and 1% tourist boats.

Yeah, as ever the change was after the restart - got me again as I saw the incursions were still in place (though the stations had gone into repair so I did think it might change). Not sure a system message would be enough for the OP.

Also don't really want fdev spending a lot of time on more cutscenes - I haven't seen many gushing about the FC jump since ... day one, and any Salvation cutscene would be the same. More gameplay would be a better use of their time.

I can live without the cut scene. A better newspaper style article with some pictures would help sell this climactic event better.
This whole story line was ended with just "The invading Thargoid forces in the Didio, Novas and Sosong systems have been completely repelled by Salvation".

And additionally funny is this sentence “Allied, Federal and Imperial taskforces have been keeping the Thargoids at bay for the last two weeks."
Every Cmdr who took part in AX CZs in last two weeks, knows how extremely successful are Allied, Federal and Imperial NPC pilots against Thargoids.
Have they ever killed one Interceptor? One Cyclops only?

This was most certainly not the climax nor the end of this storyline, but merely the end of a two week incursion of three systems. Thargoids being sent home via Superweapon happened before (this was the second deployment) and will likely happen again (well, attempted at least ;)).
That said, some sort of in-game representation of the deployment shouldn't be too much to ask. Something simple like an inbox message would do, maybe whip up something from the existing Goid sound FX that gets played system wide to signal the retreat. "Show, don't tell" is a constant struggle for EDs storytelling due to (among others) the setup of the daily/weekly tick system, so any opportunity however small (and especially the small ones) should be taken - especially those times when there's a high likelihood that CMDRs are present to witness an event, and this Superweapon deployment scenario would've been a prime candidate.

Nope, Just one of those instant things that happens in Elite Dangerous.

I would have loved it if when a system gets a thargoid incursion, you get a week to defend the stations / mega ships against thargoid scout attack (like they did when they got the Gnosis senario working) and if the incusion is not cleared within a week, then the stations start burning.

Just feels a little jarring to have a fully working station at 5:59 and then a broken one a minute later.

I saw it. I saw it with my own eyes, using my dark matter special sunglasses so that I could see it happen. It was horrible, the death, the devastation, the bodies scattered through the sky, floating endlessly. Pieces of thargoid bodies bumping up against the canopy of my ship was ghastly. Something you never want to ever see again. I shall never sleep again without this nightmare bothering me every single night for the rest of my life.
