++ Applause ++ thread for Frontier's magnificent Beta responses

Well I wasn't going to post in this thread, but since it seems like such a big deal to gather feedback at the end of the beta (I assume this is why the thread was moved in plain sight - will other threads be moved, I don't know?), I'm just gonna say:

I ain't applaudin' nutin. My arms stay crossed.

On the grind issue (which never really bothered me to be honest), it may have indeed been reduced. But is it really solved for those that hated it? No.

On the power creep issue (which bothered me enough to make me quit this game), it's through the roof.

On the newly created issue of grandfathered items, they ensure that any future balance is going to be a pain to carry out. If anyone thinks people will just convert, and the problems are going to be solved with time, think again. Personally I'm gonna keep all my grandfathered items in storage just for lulz.

So thinking back on the reasons for this engineers rework (expressed here), why was this even necessary? Did it solve much? Weren't players already able to do incremental upgrading using the module storage feature? Has the length of the process been significantly reduced? Sure, it brings improvements, I'm not denying that, but were those improvements worth the development time? Is another balance pass going to be required 6 months or 12 months from now?

I agree, they obviously listened. And i've no doubt that Fdev are always listening but I think there're often reasons (some that we might be unaware of) that can mean they won't or can't implement certain things as people would like, time constraints or programming difficulties and such, that can sometimes give the impression that we haven't been heard.

It would be nice if this could be clarified on ocasion, like with the KWS they said that it's because of the way the new C&P system works but never really said any more than that, so people still think it could be better when in reality it's probably the only way it can be for now.

Same with the thermal reduction on the rails. It would have been ideal if they could have made extra secondaries available to purchase like the majority of people seemed to be asking for but they probably just don't have the resources to make it happen in the time frame. Again it would be nice if this was acknowledged or the reasoning behind the decision was explained a bit.

I'm sure as is often the case, there's far more to it than people realise and if any one of us were to be put in Sandros shoes (or any of the dev team for that matter) we'd quickly realise how difficult it actually is. So thanks Sandro and the rest of the team, so far I think it's great and extra thanks for finally going and giving us an inch more extra storage, that was great news, now can you double it again please? :D

But judging by tests which I have carried out with my FSD (admittedly not a wide test), the engineered method of grandfathering in 3.0 will get you past anything you retain from 2.4.

My FSD went up by +62% with the "intelligent mass option" .... I thought I was doing well with +50% previously :) But it will take me a few rolls of arsenic and other level 5 mats to get there.

How much 'grind' reduction is sufficient? It's a game, simulating life and some repetition is inevitable

The 'grind' for rank is greatly reduced with the improvement to missions - you now have the choice of doing missions for
(a) lots of money
(b) commodity or material rewards
(c) lots of rep, like +++++rep !

The latter will greatly reduce that long slow grind to bigger ships for those that want them, except they will be penniless when they get there :D

Applause not only for the responses, but for 3.0 on the whole. They did a great job adding all these features and listened to and compromised with the community on a lot of things.

Elite Dangerous has come a long way since I started in early 2015 and overall it keeps getting better!

Thank you very much to all of the hard working and talented folks at Frontier Developments, keep up the good work!

Bravo, FD, Bravo!

My only gripe with the new update (with the unbalanced sideways materials exchange) was addressed in the excellent livesteam. Keep the good work up! [up]

Overall, shaping up to be the best update since 2.0

Last night’s Q&A was a triumph. This update looks to be by far the most exciting update since I joined Elite in the 2.2 timeframe. I too appreciate how FD has responded very well to player feeedback!

* Giving the type-10 some sharper teeth with the class-7 PD
* The long awaited Type-9 buff
* Adjustments to engineering based on feedback from the community

Last night it is clear that they have many more long term plans to address the weaker areas of the game. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Regarding 3.0 itself, as a space trucker, there is so much for me to love in this release!

* In-game Trade tools
* Soloable wing delivery missions where I can fill up my large ships with cargo instead of trying to find several smaller missions to the same destination without board flipping. This one is a really big deal in my books.

I am glad to see that people are appreciating what Frontier are doing here. Appreciative people are happier [smile]

I'm with you, Quicksilver. FD have really come through this time. It is well you point to the Dev's efforts to mold the Engineers into a more useful, and enjoyable experience. But, I could point to the Alliance Chieftain as another Stirling example of Dev-Player cooperation.

As they were absorbed in the changes to C&P and Engineers, two aspects of the game that simply had to be right, they took in, and responded to all of the complaints, and an excellent ship seems to have been delivered. I am still interested in the changes mentioned in the Livestream, but the aChief has already proven to be a welcomed addition to the mid sized ship class.

Bravo, FD.

Good recap OP. I like how Beta seems to be on schedule and the chapters are rolling out well with the devs working hard to smooth out the rough edges. I also thought Horizons on the whole was a decently good update, maybe the season lasted too long, but it's certainly forgivable imo where the PS4 port seemed to have taken a lot out of Frontier.

It's mainly to do with how the game will now play for those who want to play in permanent FA Off mode. Most players obviously can't imagine (understandable as we are only a handful or two) but that's where my frustration is mainly coming from.

Whilst I agree that the nuances of full FA-off flight would be off-topic for this thread, whether Frontier do - or do not - deserve applause for 3.0 / Beta 3.0 is very much on-topic.

I don't know what your particular concern is but the very best full FA-off pilots in the entire game include top-tier PvP-ers such as Cmdrs PeLucheuh and Ryan_m and their wingmates. PeLucheuh has played a very positive role in the Beta forums and is in this thread and Ryan I know for a fact has as ever been working hard to liaise with FDev on behalf of the PvP community. I think pretty much all consider 3.0 to move the game in the right direction.

I don't know what your precise concern is, so am not belittling it, but it doesn't seem to be shared by all full FA-off pilots, by any means.

Have to agree with many of the statements aired here: how many games do you own where there is this amount of interaction and action by a developer?

Well done Frontier

I shan't be satisfied until my Diamondback Scout gets a ship kit. Since that isn't happening I'm afraid I'm going to have to cap the developer's grade at a 2B.
