Patch Notes Update April Update - Patch Notes

They've always stated that HUD colour hacking isn't officially supported and that the reason they've never supported it is because the colours are interwoven throughout the entire game and UI and that making it configurable is extremely difficult. I think we're just paying the price. It's a shame but I don't think we have a leg to stand on really.
Yeah I know; they'd have to take it apart and put it back together again. Something they have neither the time, nor resources to do (especially for such a small thing).
It's a pity, but it is what it is and the nature of development.

Mate, honestly, you're not making logical points. All it sounds like to me is someone trying to make excuses for a weapon so broken it might actually help them deal with people who are better pilots.

Either way, I don't see much point in trying to debate it further with you, since you keep trying to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about anyway.

People that are better pilots or people that use the same kind of ships? it seems like the latter.

It seems to me that in this game speed/manouverability has always being defense and offence in one go.

There is no real weakness that people can exploit effectively against nimble fast ships. (other than using the same kind of ships to be even)

I dont think the changes on the drag are good the way it is now because is far too convenient to just put it on a frag cannon on a smal hardpoint just for the sake of the effect and is way too hard to counter.

But i do think that we need a few changes on the way the pvp is played right now so that other ships become more viable.

The same thing is that I do something wrong but don't you think that the supercruise module is less than expected?

I mean, I choose station and destination system and I jump. When I get to the system the module doesn't slow down (I play with HOTAS) so I can go on until I do the emergency stop on the star (like before the patch). Ok, I position my ship in front of the destination station and leave speed in blue zone. Ok all right -the module regulate the speed- but I get to the station and I have to deactivate the supercruise speed ? I don't know about you, I thought that this module was going to do something else, I mean, I thought that it was going to act like something similar to the lander: I jump and in the star it turns to the station... it goes through the way and in the station it deactivates itself.

I don't know maybe it will happen like the landing modules that now exist two. I'm in Colonia and I can't see another module that's only category 1E. Or maybe it is that I expected something more from this module because to just control the speed of arrival at the station, I take it off and occupy it with something else more useful....

you mean when quantity takes priority over quality. right.

but that's not nature. that's choice.
The usual stuff is time - quality - price. Pick two. Frontier as a company is going for time (because players would whine if releases were slower) and price (because they still aren't EA-sized, though this improves over time) and as such quality has sometimes to suffer.

Hmm, i'm not amused about that update. After that my commanders data are not found on server.... :oops:Ticket is out, i hope they will fix it. Otherwise i lost many days real life, that would be inaccaptable.

omg, after waiting in menu, all possibilties except training are vanished. Social contacs deleted....(n)

anyone having this issue? i go to shipyard and it just keeps loading then jumps back to the Starport Services screen

Unrelated? I literally said those facts about the FdL in the post you were quoting (see below) when you said I was just throwing around an opinion. We're discussing what makes ships effective in combat, how on earth are these facts about the FdL unrelated?

What is an opinion, and not a fact, is that it's permaboosting that renders small ships less useful against large ones.

This conversation is ridiculous. You're not even listening to the best PvPers and most experienced PvPers on your platform so you surely won't listen to me.

Just go ahead and kill them if you know better. I'm sure any of Yamato, L'Untouchable, Rinzler, Ryan_m or any number of the PvPers besides myself who've disagreed with you will be happy for you to test your opinions in practice.

Your FDL diatribe was unrelated to anything I said the first time you said it. And likewise you seem convinced that I am not listening or completely disagree the people who think they disagree with me (despite mostly attacking things I didn't even say). Apparently you are now assuming that I think that the primary problem with ship imbalance is boost, instead of it just being an important part of the imbalance, along with durability (as you correctly pointed out) and damage output, which you didn't mention but I have written volumes about on the forums. You clearly have no idea of my stance on any of these topics. Maybe instead of assuming I disagree, you can ask what I think about something? Just a crazy thought. Or you can keep putting words into my mouth and trying educate me on things which everyone already knows.

I know its not the place or the right way...but just wanted to say...so far its good.
Never liked the docking computer much anyway, testing it, sure wish you had simply made a new one instead of adjusting the old one...
The best way in the past to land a big ship on a planetary base was to engage landing gear before engaging the DC so it would NOT boost, but sadly now the DC retracts the landing gear and proceeds to boost.....

Also, now the nav panel has no scroll stop, it just goes round and round....not cool...
Also, now the night vision does not work in a station...don't need it in a station really, but the fail is you can turn it on but it only says its on and isn't actually on, so once out of the station you have to turn it off/on again..

Lastly...Can I assume most players are using 10 to 14" monitors???? is it possible to make the warning to switch combat\FSS modes any larger??? On my 24" monitors its only taking up about 25% of the screen....maybe font size 30 or 40...dunno....my neighbor complained....wanted to know what the bright orange flashes coming from my house were all about....
If my truck did that....annoyingly, there are actually extra idiot lights in many vehicles nowadays that are forever blinding and on and require big bucks to get fixed often simply due to crap modules....and I and many others use duct tape or foil to cover them so we don't have to be blinded at night...
An OFF switch and ability to select specifics for blinding useless or broken sensors warnings on a truck will never happen but on a multi-million dollar ship???
Glad I carry a knife, screwdriver kit and a big boot everywhere. and out the airlock goes that piece of useless cheap equipment. 12" chunk of foil on top right corner of my monitor.....all kinds of lights and switches and various readouts on the dash...who's the genius that's deciding to not use them and instead give a huge HUD FONT to tell us stuff.....They are called idiot lights for a reason...

This is neither quantity, nor quality. This is about a design decision that was made early on in the games SDLC; to tie the UI and HUD elements to an XML file.

I was referring to such a decision; one that can not be undone without spending significant resources (time, money and people) to change it. That is the nature of development. It happens in every project as the software grows in size and complexity, and especially when you release it and your customers think up new and imaginative ways to break, or use the product in ways you didn't (or couldn't) think of.

In this case, Frontier likely never figured players would (want to, or figure out how to) change the HUD colour and thus designed UI/HUD colouring around that one element of the file; so by the time it came to light that that's what players were doing, it was already too late to change it without the aforementioned resource expense.

It's nice to see you coming around, Ziljan.

How on earth can we discuss the meta (which you continually bring up in this thread) without talking about the FdL?

Maybe instead of assuming I disagree, you can ask what I think about something? Just a crazy thought. Or you can keep putting words into my mouth and trying educate me on things which everyone already knows.

You said "Permaboost is exactly the problem that I think it is. It's a crutch for medium and large ships, and an albatross around the neck of small ships." This is something I disagreed with, no need to put words in your mouth. I explained the bigger problem of hit point inflation, as well as expressed my belief no amount of permaboost is going to keep a large ship from getting out-maneuvered by a competently flown small one.

You said "combining evasion with TLB can cut down on your Pac DPS by 30 to 60% " which pretty much every other PvP'er disagreed with.

You said "DPS as a counter argument. Yes it is a counter ", which again pretty much every other PvPer disagreed with since we're generally of the opinion evasion trumps DPS and that pumping up DPS does little compared to evading the opponents DPS and effectively applying our own.

I'm not the one putting ridiculous nonsense words into your mouth. As far as the claim I'm trying to "educate me on things which everyone already knows"... it's actually every PvPer in this thread disagreeing with you. So I fail to see how you're part of the consensus.

EDIT - also there was that wonderful suggestion of yours to counter drag with reverski which you came up with all on your own.
