Shortly after I got my fleet carrier this summer, I took it out into a sector of unexplored space that I had discovered some time ago on PS4, a place I wanted to make my "home away from home". It's not that far away, under 10KLY from Sol, so while my little sector remained undiscovered, there were multiple carriers within a few hundred LY from mine. The nebula in my quadrant also had a good concentration of fleet carriers.
That was months ago, and I just returned to my little plot of stars today. I had left my carrier out here and returned to the Bubble the old-fashioned way some time ago (returning to my carrier the same way). As is my habit when exploring, I checked the galaxy map to see what other carriers are around, and much to my surprise, deep space seems much more "empty" than it was last time I checked. There are no other carriers anywhere near mine, and even the nebula have only just one or two carriers, rather than the dozen I was seeing early on. Of course this makes me wonder how many explorers grew bored with their carriers or tired of refueling them, and thus decommissioned them. Fuel is not a problem for me because I rarely move my carrier. It's more of a mobile station these days, and I'm happy with where I parked it. I also leave it out here even when I am working in the Bubble, which probably is the exception, so maybe all the carriers I originally encountered in this deep space region have returned to the Bubble for CGs.
I'm not complaining, mind you. I actually prefer deep space feeling more "isolated". I'm just curious. In fact, it makes my carrier feel a bit more novel, since it's now the only one in quite a large radius, and anyone stumbling across it will be quite lucky. I'm just kinda curious as to where all the other carriers went to.
