Are Gankers Pushing People Into Solo?

Solo (and private groups) players constitutes the vast majority of players. Ganking is but one of the MANY reasons people choose to not play in Open. The general lack of incentive to play in Open unless you are doing PvP (which most players don't) come basically from a "higher risk, same rewards" situation.

There has ALWAYS been talks about how to make Open better, and it boils down to this : offer something in Open that you can't do in private/solo. When PowerPlay come about, it was proposed that you shouldn't be able to contribute to Powerplay while in Private/Solo, for example. But sadly it never came to pass.

Speaking for myself (there may be others as well), there is nothing that can be done to Open to 'entice' me to become a flying target for other players. I just don't need or want other players and their antics screwing up my game. Period.

Let's say I have a friend who, for reasons that are beyond me, likes to hang out just outside the PFD, sealclubbing. Maybe he has mental health issues, or low self-esteem, or both. Is this really pushing new players into Solo? I mean, just yesterday I got ganked and killed in Deciat. It was my own fault, I consciously opted to go there in a shieldless DBX; it was in the middle of the night and I thought I had a fair chance of getting there. Well, apparently gankers never sleep. Did that push me into Solo (or going Solo before even flying there)? No, I just like to play Open. That being said, I'm an experienced player, and I usually know what I'm getting into. So, do you think newbies will be pushed permanently into Solo when getting ganked?
If they are pushed there it’s only by themselves.
You have a problem. You have two solutions. Become better and overcome the problem or just remove the possibility of it.
People tend to choose the path of least resistance. Case and point, Borann.

It's a video game. I cannot understand why you are bringing mental health issues into this.
ZzZ ; lost me at the ' maybe he's a nut ' type trash talk , maybe he's just playing a game ?

So if we can agree that gankers are not mentally ill, here's a question that no one has been able to answer as far as I've seen: Why club baby seals at Deciat? Why would someone spend the time to engineer an unkillable godship and hone their combat skills, just to go hang out at the most popular waypoint for new CMDR's? Why not go fight with peer-level competitors? ("Because they can" is not an answer.)

If a pro boxer hung out at a school playground punching kids in the face, you'd wonder what was wrong with him, no?

From the claims elsewhere on this very forum...

They are bored as there is nothing to do with PvP...
Poor things 🤷‍♂️

First you did nothing wrong so it is NOT your fault you were a victim.

You were attacked by a coward. Piracy is one thing, ganking though is a cowardly act, it is just bullying by another name in a game developed without repercussions as most games are.

I am not going to get into explaining how the poor parents must feel when their child/adult child actually enjoys or defends victimizing others needlessly.

Sayings like "its a game they can play how they want" just reflects how little regard these people have for others.

By that logic Checkers is just a game, so if you come across someone else who is also playing checkers but you happen to be substandard person and have an urge to be a cowardly bully it is ok to pick on them, knock their game over, throw the pieces around, rip up the board and then explain - well they should be allowed to do that. It does not say you cannot do that in the rules anywhere.

I call . Ganking is a cowardly disease.

Everyone should seriously consider playing solo, private, etc., relax and enjoy their few hours of free time.
This is the most Karen-esque response I’ve ever seen about PvP

Maybe not mentally ill (in the case of a ganker), but there's definitely something not right upstairs. IMO of course. ;)

Security / ATR should be equipped with a “Reverb EMP” which instantly disables all ships (except the Security ships, natch) in the area. They would then use “Remote Reboot” access to restart any craft who are not wanted first and then , after a 30 sec wait, reboot everyone else.

The Security ships should only have ONE of these EMPs - which they use instantly on entering the instance. That way the wanted players could hang around to take them on after they’ve been restarted (and there should probably be high-level mats and cargo dropped as a reward should you manage to destroy them) but the non-wanted players have had a chance to escape.

Oh, and the EMP should make the same noise as those mines Jango Fett used in the Star Wars prequels where it all goes quiet and then there's a massively loud “throwmbpppp” as the shockwave hits. :)

Why don't you ask the reason of FDev nott putting up a method people could use against gankers/griefers/whatever you call them?

You already have the answer, don't you? FDev don't care. You don't care. You just want to get rid of them to enjoy your ideal MMO. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen. Not until FDev change the environments of PVP activities.

I'm pretty sure that the game could sent ATR outfitted appropriately to deal with the specific build the CMDR is using.
I wish all mission based NPCs, high level security and Powerplay assassins did really.
Actually it's enough if ships like ATR Vultures have a corrosive multicannon and a reverb laser,
and the bigger ones several of that. No magic counterbuilds needed.
Reverb takes care of shield tanks, corrosive will wear down the best hull tank, combined with NPC module sniping (which they do iirc?).

Ganker and PvPer: Different mindsets. One wants a challenge against a similarly equipped player. The other just wants to ruin someone's game.

Or did I misunderstand the comment?
The only difference in the two is level of boredom lol. You’ll never get rid of gankers completely. But you can greatly reduce them by having some sort of feature in the game that directs the PvP community into organic conflict with each other. Bgs and pp just graze the surface of something like it.

Like any good ol MMO, there needs to be designated PVP zones. What's the PVP zone in ESO? Craglorn? It's where some of the toughest enemy are, but it's also open. SWTOR has them, too. The only exception to PVP outside of those zones being Powerplay (expansion/ control zone, or while hauling media), or certain winged missions, because, yes, griefers will grief all day long. It's definitely a "make me feel good about me" compensation thing. There would be a ton of possibities for PVP areas or systems in Elite. Heck make Colonia one of them. It pretty much already is. It's the wild west out ther in open.
