been playing on an i5 Xeon with a GTX 1060 since Christmas, but finally managed to wrangle my kids off my actual gaming computer last night which is a i7 with a GTX 1080...

on the 1060, the game stutters very often (it's more noticeable after the latest update and happens every time I drop in to a station or signal source), but on the 1080 the game worked flawlessly.

I'd say that Frontier isn't properly optimising their changes / patches for older hardware. Possibly, in the rush to fix all the major bugs after the 3.3 release, they've stopped checking performance / support on older hardware?

Can people who differ with any single opinion of mine please put me on their ignore list too. I mean, I probably disagree with you about something, even if it's trivial. So it would be best for you to put me on the ignore list so you don't ever have to listen to me, or anyone else any more ;-)

Did I read this right - just because someone has a differing view to you he is placed on the ignore list? Seriously, isn't that just a little petty and childish?

And yes, I know, I will be placed on your ignore list as well, but then I am the only one benefitting :D

You have to understand: he was not crying doom loud enough. That painfully breaks the view some people have. The pain is unbearable. Thus anybody who's not screaming doom all of the time needs to be ignored... :D

True? I don't think so.

I think the game's better than it ever has been and is becoming much more like the game it was supposed to be back when it was Kickstarted. Look at videos on YouTube from early 2014 and then tell me how much worse and broken the game's become since 1.0...

Just because some people are having problems with it doesn't mean it's definitely the game's fault
- have you guys considered your computer / connection / any number of things could be at fault?

Just saying.

I can’t really account for the differences in our experiences, but I’ve definitely had more crashes since 3.3 (and immeasurably more server disconnections... unplayable at times).

I’m running an i7 7700k with 16gb and a RTX 2080, Windows 10 and solid internet connection (I’m a web developer) - my hardware hasn't change pre-post 3.3.

That's exactly what I've been saying! All these whining people with their "bugs" clearly have dirty routers. Vacuum your router, people! I vacuumed mine and now the game runs flawlessly.

ps - it's extra important to vacuum your router on patch day, because downloading data puts extra stress on your router's CPU. This is why the game breaks when you download a new patch, router stress!

This, I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow if I got this response from the bugcrew :D

Any metric at all to back that up?

It's blatently obvious that the bugs since the release in december still continue to cause frustration to many users.

Trying to lay the blame at 'PEBKAC' is simply juvenile and ignoring the facts as presented on the bug board.

Prior to 3.3 I had no connection issue bar the odd hiccup in a large system with many players.

Post 3.3 I'm constantly disconnected. Cannot use the Galaxy Map for any decent distance plotting, among a myriad of other issues.

So let's evaluate your nonsense.

Poor Hardware. Nope. I run a water cooled i7, 32gb, 1080ti, with 4tb on board. GFX runs @48 deg average with Ocolus running.
Configuration. Nope, all connections my company servers, based in Dublin, UK, Isle of Man, Germany, Canada, USA all work flawelessy.
PEBKAC. Nope. I'm software developer of 30 years, have built many systems from scratch.
No issues prior to 3.3, many many issues after 3.3

If there is any PEBKAC here I respectfully suggest it is at your end.

Rich and wholesome!

So there's a bug board? Why are so many people complaining here, in ED's general discussion forum? Anyway, no, I don't have a metric for it. Do you have one for your argument? Show me yours and I'll show you mine. Yes, a lot of people have issues, and that's extremely unfortunate, but the vast majority simply don't because put simply, it's too quiet. I feel bad that people can't have as smooth an experience as I am, but saying 'ED baeta bad' does nothing for nobody and certainly fails to elicit any sympathy from me.

If you'll please do me the courtesy of actually reading what I said, you'll see that I didn't just say 'PEBKAC lol git gud', I mentioned that it could be a potential cause of some of these issues. The last two posts I read about 'ED sux lol' turned out to actually be fairly simple PEBKACs, so it's not unreasonable for me to suggest that it could be a factor. If I didn't put it forward succinctly enough then I'm sorry for any confusion, but I'm not sorry for saying that no, Elite actually works fine for most people etc.

Now, poor hardware configuration is what I said - not poor hardware. Who's to say that someone doesn't have mismatched sticks of RAM? Or an ancient hard drive that's making weird noises, but they use to run ED or even their Windows off of? What about a load of peripherals that are plugged in during gameplay but aren't necessary and can cause conflicts? If you've got 30 years in the industry then you should know that this is a common set of issues, and can't be looked over but instead must be eliminated firstly to isolate any issues.

And for PEBKAC to be at my end I'd have to have a problem. My gaming laptop, running at 90c most of the time, in my house, in Australia, connected to my spurious internet, doesn't have any issues running Elite. Congratulations on having a gaming rig and programming for 30 years. I've been working as a consultant and specialist troubleshooter for business for the last 14 years so if you need me to have a look at what you might be doing wrong my rate's the standard $100/hour and every hour part thereof, payable within 14 business days...

Seriously, I didn't know how upset people would be over me having an opinion that wasn't simply to join in with this let's pile on to Frontier attitude. If I did, I would have made popcorn because I'd like to at least have a snack before I got lynched ;)

Edit: If you've got a Geforce and you're getting stuttering or weird pauses - close Geforce Experience. It's most likely the culprit. See? I'm helping.

I just washed my router with warm water and washing up liquid.
Its now working great and all game bugs have gone !!
I recommend Fairy washing up liquid it seemed the best.

Whilst a liberal drowning in warm water and a GOOD washing up liquid will get rid of the majority of bugs, that method can be dangerous for the unwary. If the water is too hot, or the wrong washing up liquid is use, irreputable damage could occur to your precious router.

A much better solution is to fully unplug the router, let it cool down then place the entire router into a suitable airtight plastic bag that is sealable. Once the router is in the bag, use a full can of any top shelf broad band insecticide (I fully endorse Mortein's Crawling Insect Killer). Once the can is empty, seal the bag tightly and leave for at least an hour, preferably overnight. After that, I can guarantee there will not be one bug on the router :D

Been playing for years, technically competent (understatement). Constant disconnections since 3.3. No other changes. Definitely worse on busy days in the game (DW2 waypoints, etc), so unlikely to be infrastructure related on my end.

If it looks like a(n old) duck, quacks like a(n old) duck and waddles like a(n old) duck. It's pretty certain that it's an old duck, complete with elephant butt leather jacket.

I heard that placing a lemon wedge on top of your router and making sure that you clean up any sugar you happen to have left on it also works. But only if the lemon is magnetized!

I think since 3.3 the router bug is Urchin based...
I had a mate who swore that the best action to take for Urchin sting was to Urinate on the stung part.

Brb...
