"Frontier has said that this will be a feature rich info release"
Hey, where did you hear this? My understanding was that their presence at Gamescom and the other conventions would be fairly minimal, and that not too much would be revealed?

I believe like most conventions they are there to "release" more hype if anything. Not necessarily to deliver any goods.

If anything maybe they'll release the correct tip offs about the thargoid crashed ships... yay finally we'll see a UFO. It will be a big deal and then what?

Wow, this thread is dripping with apathy.

It's hardly a surprise when Frontier themselves have killed all communications channels (except an ironically named newsletter) and fallen way behind on the season 2 release schedule.

Personally, I am not hyped in the slightest for any Gamescom announcements - I suspect they will spend most of it hyping 2.2 and 2.3, with the slight possibility of announcing what is in 2.4 (if it actually gets released), and maybe if we're lucky a 5 second clip of whatever the main feature of season 3 is. Meanwhile Activision will be showing off their Call of Duty in space (not to my cup of tea) and EA will be showing off Mass Effect Andromeda; Star Citizen may also show something although it will come at the expense of a ship sale. I will attempt to catch whatever the ED announcements are, but more out of curiosity than hype.

It's a pity that such apathy has been allowed to build up, but Frontier only have themselves to blame.

No teasers means no hype from me, sorry.

It'll be nice to hear about what is coming up and, hopefully, when.

hyped? Stoked. Elite is pretty much the only game I play. The longest running gaming time aside from my mmorpg days. Heck yes I'm optimistic. It's a slow build, but once all these pieces (multicrew, fighters, space legs, etc) are in...and then with aliens, most likely hostile as well as friendly, on the "Horizon" <see what i did there?> Boom yes I'm stoked. For all it's post patch issues what not, I am stoked.

No communication about anything substantial, that is the problem.
No sneak peeks, no behind the scenes footage, no nothing.....very quite.[down]

All super duper top secret stuff....or maybe...just maybe, they have hit an impasse with the game engine.....DUN, DUN, DUN!

Anyways, it is hard to get the hype for something that you know will be changed over and over and over again....when it is eventually released.
We are the rats in FD's experimental builds\releases\content\stuff & things\maze ...the trouble is, they keep changing the layout to the extremes [haha]

That used to bother me too, but over time, I've come to realize that when they are quiet, it's because they are busy. I do wish we would get more information flow, but the knowledge that they have the hood up helps a bit

Well, Elite has competition now. NMS will be out by GamesCom, and Star Citizen is nearing a milestone and will likely have something for GamesCom. If they show their hand too early, then the competition can have a leg-up on them. Just my $0.02.

They've had two years to get a leg-up on the competition and have blown it, NMS drops in four days - 'nuff said.

I wouldn't call NMS competition personally. It is a very different type of game. Don't get me wrong, I am sure it is good and I may get it myself, but it certainly won't replace ED.

Personally, MNS from the art style and the game play disclosed from the review copy...Not my thing.

Star Citizen has the potential in spades. But how long will one have to wait to get an actual game? 1 year, 2 years, 3 years?[where is it]
A plus for Star Citizen is the single player blockbuster story. But that is also a negative, in regards to funding and time put into it.
I think mister Roberts fancys himself a director.

There is nothing that FD could show, that would show their hand. Anything that is in Elite or due to be in, will more then likely be included in Star Citizen in some way. Not everything but most. It works the other way for Star Citizen. Both have their individuality, but there will be (Is) quite a lot of similarity.

I tend to agree with that.
I dont see NMS as a long term rival of Elite, maybe in the short term but not in years to come...Unless NMS has a raft of colorful DLC planned. (Pun intended;))
Then again I wont be playing it.

Why should I by hyped? (no seriously why)

I mean Frontier haven't done anything to promote or tease what is coming up or that there is even any significant announcements. It has just been ultra quiet as usual from Frontier post the last release. I mean I cant even remember the last newsletter that had anything juicy in it!

Even if there was something worth tuning in for, I would not get hyped as it normally leads to disappointment (especially in the gaming world). I will just wait it out and keep a level head.

I expect 2.2 to be announced in a way it sounds like a gigantic DLC with a lot buzzwords and hot marketing air so they bait more people buying it.

The reality will be a patch that introduces more half done mechanics like power play that won't fix any of the broken existing mechanics.

So no, I don't expect anything really impressive at the end of the day. It will look shiny and sound tasty but what they'll deliver will be the same underwhelming quality.

Its competition in that it's a space sim and has many of features requested on here since ED's launch. Up until now if you wanted a space sim ED or SC were the only contenders, now there is a third and as time goes on there will be more, further diluting FD's income and player base.

People have limited funds, monies that could have gone towards Season Two and later will likely go to Hello Games at least in the short term. The more casual game player with limited time may find it ticks all the boxes compared to ED and will never come back. I really hope FD have something special to pull out of the hat at Gamescom besides space tourism, else it could be the beginning of the end of what could have been a great game.

I am hyped because of the hints towards more variation/personality in stations. Traffic control was one of the best additions in 2.1 for me, and one that lasts. Variation would add to a sense of 'place' and lived-in personality.

P.S. NMS? I like my space gritty/realistic, not cartoony. Not for me.
P.S.P.S. 16K Spectrum FTW!

Has there been any indication of content?

I've played Elite since the Spectrum days, so I'm still excited when I load it up on my PC in glorious multi-colour. Therefore, I'm not hyped, but I'm not upset about that either.

Safe flying Commanders.
