It certainly is a reference to "Misery", yes.
And, my word, is it a blunt and uninspiring one.
Thx to OP for reminding me to stay away from GN, and a repeated plea to FD: Hire writers, please.
I actually don't recall any player submitted news, so it must've been as memorable as the Galnet fluff we get now.

I got a far better indicator of how seriously FD takes that particular site. From that link in the OP, hit News...
...You're welcome for the laugh on a monday afternoon.
This news kinda reminds me on "Docking is difficult" Elite book. Famous artist and weird fans.
Edit: wiki says

I used to collect and colate GalNet stories.
Line them all up after the weeks they ran.
I used to follow GalNet looking for clues and hints.
Not any more.
I'm pretty sure that there's no in joke in the sense of "you need to know something specific and either non-public or obscure to get it". There may also be an in joke - how would I know? - but the broad meaning of the three Olav Redcourt articles seems fairly clear to me.I'm wondering if there is an in joke I'm not privy to? Do these articles mean something to anyone?
I'd read this particular article as primarily a reference to a few rather more recent events - but you're right that the Olav Redcourt storyline as a whole could be seen as a commentary on aspects of the Premonition storyline and the differences in storytelling between 2.x and 3.xPart of me wondered if it was a reference to Drew Wagar and the Premonition thing
Those articles about Olav Redcour are pretty much ok. Those things bring life to the galaxy, even if they're not related to any actual gameplay, although I wouldn't be so sure it will not be at some point.
This article was worthless though:

Who won? Not that I care, but can you imagine any RL news lacking any information about the victor? it looks like it's taboo to mention it, or it's in poor taste, because it might hurt other side feelings.
I assume the issue here is that the articles have to be prepared some time in advance for translations and queued up so that they can go live as soon as the CG ends, and therefore don't have time to have the winner mentioned. This article was worthless though:

It's I guess slightly better to avoid mentioning who won than to go "Dewey beats Truman" by making a guess on the early trend ... but this does seem to be a significant weakness of the competitive CG format at the moment. It would be better I think to have the "CG completed" articles coming a day later but with the actual results added, in this case.
Le Radeau du Galnet
Yup.
So many aborted storylines. So many storylines which, ultimately culminates in a fairly pointless conflict CG. Just one of those storylines actually leading to something interesting in game would be a welcome change.
That asteroid which blew up down below the Pleiades? Even just a wreckage site in the system would've been nice.
Wreaken Industries operating in the Col 70 sector? Where's the permit when you get allied to them allowing access to maybe one or two system in Col 70 with an interesting facility or two to check out.
Just little things like this...
