I've done quite a lot of these missions since 3.0 arrived, both as part of a wing and on my own.
Great idea, a bit more worthy opponents than the usual run-of-the-mill NPCs, flying engineered ships and all that.
These missions would be really fun to do, were it not for the tons of bugs infesting them, with the most annoying one being the 'cannot drop into my wingmate's low wake' issue.
For instance the other day I winged up with one of my favourite BHer wingmates. We decided to earn some G5 mats so we picked up a few of these missions and then headed off to a nearby system.
The first mission went kinda flawlessly, not counting the not game- (only immersion) breaking bug when both wingmates find a separate mission USS for the same mission. The 2 frag-FASs we were flying melted all NPCs in the mission USS within a minute, as it was quite predictable.
We both had about 50% ammo left, so we decided to share another mission without handing in the already accomplished one. I was the first to find the mission USS, pretty much as soon as I got close enough to the a giant planet where we were sent to, so I dropped in. My wingmate was about 5000 kms behind me in SC. I scanned the mission target (which is kinda stupid: why do I have to wait for the scan result of a known criminal? - but that's a different story), then opened fire. The target happened to be in one of those SCB-spamming Cutters, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to kill him without my wingmate, but he simply was not able to make it into my low wake (no matter what he was trying to target, my wake or my wing beacon signal).
The game insisted on dropping him into normal space somewhere above the far side of the planet instead of the vicinity of the ongoing battle.
Having run out of ammo I had to leave the my target behind with 50% hull when his mega-shield finally came back online.
We went back to the station to restock. I also changed ship and got in my Vulture, partly for a little bit more challenge, but mainly because its two fixed pulse lasers don't need ammo.
And the same happened again. I was fighting with the Cutter guy and his henchmen (you can imagine how long it took my wretched lasers to bring down the FDL, the Cobra and the Vipers and then to chew through the bazillion MJ shield and god knows how many hitpoints of hull of the Cutter), while all my wingmate could do was trying to drop near me, find himself on the far side of the planet, go all the way round the gas giant, then rinse and repeat.
Any chance of getting a working wing mechanism, FDev? Pretty please?
