Asteroid belts are about to get busy - Seriously FD?

According to the last news letter, asteroid belts and rings are about to get very busy.

Seriously FD, you think players seek out asteroid belts for mining? Are you that out of touch with what happens in your game?

Who actually mines in a belt cluster?

In each you get 8 roids. None of them have much worth mining. I doubt the new mechanics work there. At best you'll fill a small ship with low value goods.

And forget visiting more than one cluster, as you still manage to get a pirate spawn at each cluster.

Apparently they have the deep core asteroids in them.

If I can find the post I'll link it.

I think they meant only the belts around the Gas Giants and other planets featuring a ring. The clusters have always only been a charming little spot for solitude, probably.

I too, think this is what they meant, i.e. rings, at least that's how I read it.

Get lost!

I use them. They have the new mechanics. They are extremely useful if you know what you're doing.

To be honest YES, as others said belt clusters have a deep core asteroid usually and given that can be found within 30 seconds it's probably more efficient to drop in 4-5 clusters than it is to boost around a ring hotspot for a while. Each time I've entered a hotspot it's taken me a good 2 minutes or so to get to my first deep core asteroid as I usually find them a good 8km+ from the centre of the hotspot.

Requires testing to be sure but you are 100% wrong in your assertion that they are not a good place to test the new mechanics. Whether or not they'll be "busy" is open to interpretation but they are by no means a terrible option these days.

What's the spawn rate for good stuff in roid clusters after the update?
Perhaps they know it's better than the copycat player meta is aware of yet.

Tell you what whoever is doing the PR over at FD is about the only one doing a decent job of selling the game. I guess once you've played the game long enough not only do you not read the newsletter I've noticed it no longer gets linked here (or does it and I miss it) I unsubscribed to it some time back due to unwanted spam from FD.

BUt let's get back on topic even if a 100 players headed for the same ring it still wouldnt feel busy as with most thing ED its the shear size that makes nothing feel “busy”. I very much doubt even if I wanted to play with others I would ever get the “busy feeling” of mining in Eve. A Sunday night 50+ people mixed ships escorts, miners, haulers, and others just hanging out as it was a nice social event when you combined it with other corps.

One of the great things about ED is it's you and your ship, one of the worst things about ED is trying to get more than 10 people doing the same things to earn end result.

( i might be wrong on the last bit as I don't play with others in ED, so purley going on hearsay.)

I'm pretty good at getting lost.

But I'm fine with being proved wrong. So if clusters have a core asteroid, then they may be worth mining in. Do they have the expensive ores? As they certainly don't for normal mining. i.e. metallic cluster roids have none of the 3Ps.

I would even say that FD PR is false advertisement... I remember the one for horizon ^^

I'm a cynical old git and believe all advertising is pretty much bowlocks, problerly why I don't own a tv, skip youtube ads as soon as they let me and stopped believing the hype a long time ago, well at least for ED.

I did believe the hype for a recent purchase over the summer and then found the game that I was being sold, and brought on looking like it was going to be the game to keep me going over the winter plus it was coop so the wife up for it, wasn't the one they released and that might if we're lucky come sometime next year. So now I tend to wait until anything I want is has been out for a month then buy it if it not sinking faster than the titanic.

ED I still hold hope for but again the urge to get back to playing it keeps getting kicked back due to many little things that amount to me going I just can't be bothered. BUt yeah they lost me at "winter is coming..." well its here as we had a lot of snow over night and looks like it might well be a white xmas after :)

Painite, no - but I've got Platinum and Palladium out of metallic clusters.

That was my post! In fact, I've posted about it several times over the last few days, but this is the thread with the most detail.

Woot!

Yes they do! Picture for people who didn't click on the link:

how are 8 even a "belt". i enver seirously undertsood the point (aside form existing in RL) of those asteroid belts in ED.
they should be MUCH bigger and wield much more material at least, but usually they aren't even worth the travel time.
