Oh No!

Ive just watched this up to you taking on and destroying the Python (which was Elite ranked), you hardly had to do any pip management, didnt lose your shields despite hardly attempting much manuvering to keep yourself out of danger and didnt even use FA off (that I could see). Not criticizing you at all, but the AI now looks easy! Aghhh same with Dropship!

It seems to happen from time to time. I was today fighting against gunship that didn't shoot back at all. But after that encounter there were many tough fights. One case does not mean they all are like that.

If I fly my trade Cutter am I still going to get interdicted every 3 jumps by only Fur de lances and Anaconda's exclusively them 2 ships ?

Because people will complain they were interdicted by an Elite ship, destroyed in 5 seconds and that's not acceptable ever.
I flew through two anarchy systems today and it was like high-sec. So the changes people want to ensure the game is "fun" seem to be working.

People are going to go to high-res and hazardous because there's money to be made then complain they can't make money because it's taking too long to destroy ships (when they aren't being blown up in 5 seconds).

Frontier have done the only thing they can; unwind virtually all the changes SJA made (apart from welcome fixes to spinning and better pip management) because the community will not stop until they do.

Well this is the thing though, give people the option to fly through low security space and face tough opposition or go via high security systems and be safe makes this work just fine.
And it's as simple as that. And if n00bs wanna go to Haz Res sites without learning the ropes? Fine, you're gonna have to learn the hard way....
Make the rewards still quite nice in normal Res sites for the n00bs and less experienced and let the more experienced get on with it.

No. I was getting harassed and being told that they want it all, etc. Mostly low level eagles and the like. Had one ranked gunship. A couple other ranked ships I think were on the comms. But practically everything that pulled me out of SC was low ranked.

Ok, thanks for the info. I guess i must have done something since i'm getting these 'big haul' guys after me constantly. Steady supply of high level npcs where ever i go, it doesnt matter what the system security level is, getting combat rank up quickly so i'm more than happy to deal with them :D. Just wandering what a guy in his type-7 would be thinking if he were in my position

No idea. But I should imagine they would love my experience this evening. Bit like 2.0.

Had my thrusters shot out yet again. waiting helpless to be finished off yet again.

Hasn't improved.

Did some trips in the Cobra IV today - interdicted twice and both were easily survivable. 1st was a Cobra III and I tried taking him on - Stalemate... I couldn't turn quickly enough to keep him in my sights and he couldn't get through my shields... Gave up and boosted out. 2nd was a dropship - just boosted out of that one.

Later I went out in the Vulture in my home system - all AI easy except for an FAS that interdicted me. Even then I never felt that I was ever in danger of losing my ship. Killed successfully despite sustaining some damage - largely through having to stop shooting as the plod milled about in the firing line looking for a milkshake rather than doing anything productive :-(

AI has gone from -Hawk to Spring Chicken in a couple of days... I was enjoying being frightened - now I'll have to beat up the Budgie to work out my frustrations :-(

It's almost like we're in a different Galaxy - Have the changes been applied to all servers?

i dont recognise the AI being dumbed down again sorry. i have my cargo hold slowly filling up with crafting commodities, which means im going to need to pick missions now to get the ones i need for the pinned engineer recipes, but i digress...
today i was in one system exploring it and i got a continuous stream of dangerous, dangerous, master, dangerous (in imperial eagle) after the stuff in the hold.

one very good fight with a viper mk 4 (dangerous) which involved a lot of turning and using thrusters to help when i was rolling and pulling the nose up to get back on target, with occasionally it boosting away to distance to get its shots in. beat that one eventually. finally got its powerplant to 0 and then was just target practise.

i had another one robbed from me by federal security jumping in and killing it, even though i had its shields down and had been hammering it with multis for a good few minutes before they showed. no bounty on that.

had to flee one and not even sure what ship it was now, but another dangerous. it got behind and stayed there picking off my shield so i was out of there.

killed one competent rank in something not worth mentioning. was a good fight but it made a mistake and practically stopped to turn and face me and i hammered it.

master in a sidewinder with multis - it still got most of my shield down and i still managed to kill it but it was a tough one to pin down.

all were interdictions. several were ones i selected to scan when they appeared in front during supercruise while scanning. so it appears if there is a wanted ship and you scan it in supercruise it starts to take an interest. that could also be coincidence because i also had the master winder pilot in same system and all said they were after my cargo. but i would have just dealt with them all and not had to flee at all before. now it matters if i forgot to switch from my disco on secondary to weapons on primary after scanning a system. thats time i dont really have in a battle now. i am always prepared to low wake at any point and i have a system ready to jump to if i have to. never needed to before. i have had to change my ship loadout and im back to using shield boosters now - i needed one on the old cobra mk iii but got rid of it on the asp because better armour. not any more. i have more multicannons now also. this is since todays patch and the AI seems same as yesterday to me.

AI is client side. Also stuff you describe is no way Spring Chicken. It is not 2.0 AI. Higher ranks will get improved as SJA promised.

My experience:

Didnt lost my corvette yet [up]
I got interdicted by elite conda 2 times, those kind of NPC that will follow you to the edges of galaxy but with help of the security forces I was able to kill it both times

Mining in haz RES or hi RES I encounered max rank of dangerous me being deadly rank. Didnt had many problems, my mining corvette was able to kill those NPC's without much problem. No more insta gib weapons on NPC's. But still when I see approaching NPC's I need to attack them first. After couple of alpha strikes with rail guns I can finish those NPC's pretty quickly

its odd its like some of us are talking about two different AI systems. half of us are having difficult higher level opponents almost constantly interdict - im not complaining, win or flee makes no difference to me now - it feels like an achievement either outcome. but others say they have had no high level opponents... i had one competent pilot, my own rank, and i was so warmed up by the other combats he only had to make one error and he was toast. it was still fun but was also a relief because i knew i had him then and would not take any damage from this one. i took some damage in the others but the bounties actually covered it thank god. and it was less than yesterday.

--Rummaging thru my fanboi counter neg game posting response cards....

Ahhh yes....Git gud? noo no thats not appropritiate,

lets see now...ah yes...it says here, apply the presupposition that the posters combat pilot abilities are in question by offering unwanted piloting advice....err umm. No, N/A here--s/hes Elite

Well....Did you keybind the bindlewarbin and launch it together with the dombashneeki within the expected 5 seconds post module malfunction?? huh huh huh?? wheeelll theres the issue

So there ya go FD, carry on...keep those NPC hounds on the trail...

I can't sit in a Nav beacon for longer than a minute without immediately being fired upon by a Dangrous, Eliite or Expert NPC. It is frustrating, because I'm just there to scan for mission data. Doesn't matter if I'm hauling cargo or not, and in a controlled faction system of my power. My ship goes pop in less than a minute from enemy power NPCs. The spawns are still high up, and I'm in the Mostly Harmless category, to novice combat rank.

I think you would be safe in a cutter (cutter shields can take a lot of punishment) even if you would get interdicted. Just high wake (jump) to another system.. no ship can stop you from doing that, and they don't usually follow you.

The turrets don't work either, because :

  1. They are confused by the absolute motion of ennemy ships. In other words : they miss the small and nimble targets that they are supposed to counter all the time.
  2. They are hard countered by chaff, which NPC's love to use.
  3. Even with their buffed DPS, they are still inefficient power hogs.

This puts large ships in a terrible position : forced to dogfight, no way to get out of the turning battle, no effective long range weapons vs small targets, no effective turrets.
So you have ships that are great at killing other large ships, but that will get murdered by 3 eagles because you cannot hit them effectively, even if packingturrets.
Missiles are usefull to deal with the small stuff, but the amo limit makes it problematic for CZ.

Perhaps turrets need a pass where they can fire more accurately but have lower energy output? (more weaker shots before overheating)?

Or, perhaps turret can become a large ship specialized weapon that have the same energy output and more accurate but not available for more nimble ships? (that one I don't like).

It's worth bearing in mind that at my skill level, I was able to do this, whereas prior to the patch I had a much harder time with a Dangerous Cobra in the same Vulture. I also used the Police to assist with the kills. Before I thought it would be too much in a non combat ship, now I think I could do okay. I appreciate that I'm not the best pilot out there, but I'm Combat Elite so I get Elite Anacondas interdicting me pretty regularly and I don't usually fly heavily armed.

Here is what I think FD could do with turrets :

  • At the very least, move from confusion from absolute motion of the target, to apparent angluar motion of the target (i.e. how fast it moves away from the turret firing line)
  • Different confusion (bloom) factors depending on turret sizes and large turrets should turn slower, while small ones should be able to track nimble targets with ease.
  • Cut the chaff confution factor by 50% or cut chaff confusion factor as function of the sensor size/rating or make sensors rating/size improve turrets/gimbals accuracy.

After this, reassess turrets.

The Dropship was charging it's FSD throughout, so could not have deployed hardpoints without cancelling the jump. Possibly a bug, maybe it should have made a run for it or cancelled the jump.
