Attacked by another player entering a starport

So let me get this straight, you can fire into a no-fire zone, onto a target that is inside the no-fire zone, safely, without getting engaged by the station defenses, and he can't shoot back until he exits the no-fire zone?
.
It is like that. FD in their wisdom once implemented a 7.5 km no-fire zone, while masslock is only 5 km around the station. With weapons having a maximum range of 3 km and a high damage dropoff at that range, it seemed fine. That small window of attack, combined with reduced damage, was no issue.
.
And then they implemented long-range modifications which eliminated damage dropoff.
.

No, I disagree. Please see my post no.139 above.

Yes, I agree.

FWIW, I find Mobius a bit too restrictive, but it's the best alternative to open for now. I wish there was a PvP version of Mobius with the basic rule that players need to have the same "decency" as NPCs. Player pirates are cool. Player sociopaths who pick on ships way weaker than their own (seal clubbing) and use exploits to avoid fair PvP, not so much...
.
That's also my experience. I wouldn't mind player pirates. But while rumour persist that there are player pirates with cargo hold, they either are pure myth or very rare, while plenty of "pirates" without cargo hold roam around.
.
Point in case: around x-mas a friend of mine bought the game, as it was on sale. He did the tutorials, then launched in Open, as that's what he thought was the way to meet other people. It took less than 20 minutes till he was interedicted and destroyed by a Corvette. (He didn't even realize it was a player. The pilot of the Corvette didn't say anything, i guess he was so scared of the Sidey that he had to shoot right away, communication would've exposed him to the risk of the newbie Sidewinder blowing him up in no time... )
.
In the given case i was able to direct my friend to Möbius and things are fine there. Still: for each new player who has a friend helping him, how many new players are there, who don't have veteran support? How many new players and thus potential customers for FD are eliminated by the "playerbase reduction squad" on a regular basis? I know that people doing that don't really care for the health of the game. If the game dies, they just move on. I even dare to claim that a significant percentage of them doesn't have the mental capacity to understand what they are doing.
.
What's really beyond me is FD, though. I mean yes, C&P now, after years, is being implemented. But while it has a number of flaws and might seem too harsh in some cases, it's very weak against seal-clubbing. Alas, i guess FDs financial situation is too good, so they are happy loosing customers..
.

So if I'm crossing the road and some nutter runs me over..? Your advice would be to stay at home, right?

My advice would depend upon whether you live in a civilised, relatively safe, policed country in the 21st century, or a murderous wacko lunatic place where literally everyone carries multiple machine guns and rocket launchers around with them everywhere, and advertisements for work in local shops include features such as, "Kill 70 civilians in the next neighbourhood for us, good money paid, must be all dead within 24 hours, warning may be illegal."

What about the jerks in Mobius?

There's a Inception reference in here, isn't there?

There might be, but I fell asleep...

...or did I?

I'm glad I was sitting alone at the computer when I read this:)

Nah, V’larr. Mobius is a joke. Y’all can’t hang so you make up your own rules to massage your fragile self esteem.
But hey. Ain’t no skin off my back. Too busy having the time of my life with Elite. ;)

What's a joke, and a poor one at that, is how you, and others like you, have time and time again continually failed to understand how horridly well you're proving my exact point in this thread! Enjoy ignore! Funny, innit, that I might not enjoy the company of someone who thinks schoolyard insults and putting on airs is a compelling argument!

Yea this is false.
You can be the greatest vs NPC's to ever live.
Your 1st fight against another player would be embarrassing.
Big difference.
Sorry.

You have absolutely no way of possibly knowing that before the fact. Which is rather my entire point there.

I have received so many reps on this comment.
I can only assume because it's true.

Yes its a bit harsh and unprovable.

I guess my experience is all I have.
I have been playing this game in open since the beginning.
I've been combat elite forever. (So I destroyed countless NPC's)
They became predictable and boring some time ago.

I have been in a lot of PvP battles and it's considerably different.

Take away the engineering and load out, and another cmdrs flight/battle patterns can be unpredictable.
That combined with the excitement of a PvP encounter, mistakes happen.

The short of it is:

If you think its as easy to kill a player as it is to kill a NPC.
You haven't killed a player.

Fly dangerous

I can kind of see your point, but I think you may be underestimating the abilities of some of the PvP players. After all some have spent countless hours honing their combat skill against lightly shielded/lightly armed traders and newbies!

I believe what you mean to say is, "If you think its as easy to kill an experienced PvP player as it is to kill a NPC. You haven't killed an experienced PvP player." I'm not a PvP 'veteran', but I've engaged in a dozen or so PvP battles, and a newbie player who doesn't know what he's doing is way easier to defeat than the typical NPC at a hazres. I've easily taken out players while flying the most modest of ships. On the other hand, an experienced PvP player flying an engineered killing machine is an entirely different story. And a top-notch PvP player flying a modest ship has my full respect, assuming they aren't using exploits or seal clubbing innocents. I've met some of them in CQC and quickly realized I was severely outclassed (which is different than being outgunned). To those players, I tip my hat.

Not sure what your message is ?

Your 1st and 2nd sentences are different to me.

Perhaps I should have said all things being equal ?

Reputation received does not verify the truth of a statement. ;)

Not that I particularly disagree with you with regards to PvP.

True

Perhaps all the cmdr's that go to Mobius have made the universe dangerous for new players and traders.
"I got griefed so I'm going to Mobius".

Completely turning your back on the cute little old lady just trying to get her Sidewinder to the grocery store and back.

You complain about star port griefing yet most of you (not you O.P.) turn your back on the innocent by going to Mobius.

If there were more little old ladies to destroy because they left there blinker on for 3 star systems, There would be more
white nights coming to there rescue. I might choose this ?

"there's no one to help the noobies"
That's because you Mobius people have left them !
SHAME SHAME SHAME

Fly open
Fly dangerous

It seems obvious you're just baiting like a troll now, but it seems a good time to make the point that many if not most griefers are also notorious cheaters. There are countless threads in this forum about players trying to use legitimate PvP to protect "grandma visiting the Eravate grocery store", and as soon as these "oh so dangerous" griefers meet their match, they combat log and then use the block feature to keep players like Adle's Armada from instancing with them. They are the same players who use ramming as an exploit to kill without consequence (which is different than using ramming as a legitimate combat tactic).

Anyway, it's clear this thread is devolving into childish trolling, so I'm tapping out.

Meanwhile somewhere near LHS 3447 a sweet blue haired old lady just left the grocery store.
Unaware she has been abandoned by her own kind.
Suddenly she sees a hollow blip on the radar....
"this must be my family" she thinks.
Unaware they are all in Mobius.

She targets it and reads the cmdr's name.
ALGOMATIC !!!!!
