Attacked & destroyed in SOLO MODE

Hi MickyG 1982 My son recommended game. I've just retired and bored . I still practicing flying still do loop of shame and can just about land. I definately can't fight my way out of a paper bag LOL Thanks for reply
Welcome to the galaxy - Dying in Elite D. is no big deal as long as you follow the 1st rule, which is always be able to afford a rebuy.

Loop of shame is easy to avoid. When the timer says 7 secs, throttle down into the blue zone centre. After that you should be able to cruise in fine.

Stick with it - the game has a very steep learning curve, but you'll get used to it soon enough.

Live dangerously, go for 6 seconds...

Or just forget and start looping at 4 seconds... (not that an Elite pilot like myself would ever forget something so essential!!! 🥳 )

I'd normally go for the 6 seconds, when I'm not distracted by other things... But the 7 second 'rule' is more reliable.

Hi All Tonight I was attacked and destroyed in SOLO MODE by a Thargoid whilst blind in Analysis mode scanning in Arietis Sector VO-R b4-.2. How is this possible? I thought you were not able to meet other players in this mode? The previous 3 nights when in open play the same happened once whilst in FSD jump once in super cruise and once whilst scanning. Are Thargoids supposed to be able to attack you in silent mode? I put this down to being in the wrong place at wrong time. Thats why I went in solo mode. This is putting me of playing ED, since I'm wasting my time. Are there any safer areas to play both in solo mode and open play.

can i have your account or your stuff before you leave?

Looks like you need some spaceside assistance.

I think you're playing the wrong version of the game. This is Elite: Dangerous, not Elite:Safe

Hi there, try map filters to remove war zones affected by thargoid invasion thus avoiding gettin into those systems when plotting routes, as you have a big chance to be blown up, by thargoids at least. You should get some good begginers advice on Youtube on how things move in ED, plenty of friendly tutorials. Solo mode is not as dangerous as open mode, but once you get 1 ton of commodities in your cargo, you will always get a chance for some non player character to try and get it from you, so dont fly without a rebuy cost covered. Welcome Commander! Don’t worry… we’ve were all just like you, once upon a time, wondering how in heck we were ever going to comprehend this game.

What helped me massively is to look at Elite Dangerous in a completely different way. It’s basically Wario Ware.… a series of mini games and puzzles, each of which require different techniques to master.

Avoiding “the loop of shame”, navigating the rotating station slot, landing on a pad, landing on a planet, fuel scooping, neutron boosting, white dwarf boosting, interdicting (or avoiding it), the Full Spectrum System Scanner, the Detailed Surface Scanner, materials trading, mining (a series of mini games) and so on.

It’s perfectly ok to be ace at some and terrible at others, and that ratio will change over time. And, if you get really stuck, this very forum has loads of advice and solutions (and if not, then r/EliteDangerous on Reddit). That’s what makes Elite Dangerous special for me… the community that pulls us all upwards towards mastery. And also websites like Spansh and Inara (R.I.P. EDDB… sniff).

Come on, play nicely. Or are you one of those people who sits on the bumper of learner drivers, honking your horn before blasting past them and slamming on your brakes?

All of us here were n00bs once.

Been playing 5 years and thought 7 seconds was chancing it.

Every day’s a school day.

If you are really careful you can get it down to 5, but that only works occasionally for me. 6 seconds is the sweet spot however.
5 is standard ;) I have generally gone down to 4 now since I originally made this video :)

Once you know where and what to focus on you can find that virtually all except the largest high mass ships can use overspeeding and Gravity Braking to approach the stations faster.

That one is a bit more advanced but we do also have a lot of very handy videos on the Buckyball website, including a 4 way comparison that shows there is no such thing as "the loop of shame" because even doing a loop is faster than approaching a station at 6 seconds. It has the added bonus of throwing off most would-be interdictors, because they can't stay behind you.

I am way too lazy, my reflexes are those of a turtle, and I am not competitive enough to do any kind of racing. In real life, I drive like the old man I probably am. But it is awesome what you can do.

Personally, I have done loads of loops of shame even at seven seconds. Six is pushing it for me. But I have used gravity assist sucessfully now and then.
