Attacking and Pirating Megaships!

One thing to note is that all current interactions are considered illegal, tying in with the changes to Crime and Punishment. These interactions provide criminal pilots new gameplay options as well as giving lawful players new locations to find wanted pilots.

Gah so this will be pvp thing only, no derelict megaships or opportunity for salvaging?

This is not trying to take away anything from people that mainly want pvp or enjoy that kind of thing, by all means have it work this way for ship that are "live" but how about making some of the "megaships" be available for salvaging and other more pve actitivity, win/win no?

Sorry? Megaships exist primarily as PVE. There are no player owned megaships. There are one or two player group megaships. But they are the exception. So no idea why you assume PVP.

I think maybe you are confusing two seperate things. As it stands now, there's plenty of dropped materials and endless PVE ships and what not spawned with megaships. Frontier is introducing some mechanics to leverage that for wings, to go with the existing solo player stuff.

Additive, not replacement.

Make sure to bring this point up during the Beta Test :).

Was just bouncing my thinking off a previous posters, in this thread, that mentioned it looks like they are setting this up for pvp considering player owned fleet carrier ships we will be getting at the end of 2018 as they could be considired "megaships".

I do get this is a good wing type thing so let me rephrase for pve will these just be for combat oriented or could we possibly encounter derelict ones that you can maybe salvage from etc where the salvage would be legal instead of illegal?

Sure, but I think it might be a bit of a leap to assume carrier ships will be mega ships. It's plausible; but frontier did say more ships are comming, so arguably, that probably includes carrier ships.

These new mechanics refer to megaships, though. And they're almost entirely PVE related at present. So solo/ PG and Open all benefit. :)

Unknown. Plausible? Either way; this is something to raise during beta, perhaps. I am sure Frontier have things planned they aren't going to discuss that may be related.

I can't help thinking there should be a way to do these without being detected. Perhaps some stealth equipment from the Tech trader would be required. A way to open the doors etc that might not set off the alarms. Need to use a small ship, etc.

Maybe Kofeyh forgot that we are also getting Squadrons later this year. This could see Mega-ship PvE expanded to Squadron PvP ;).

As above. Looks really exciting!

It looks exciting, indeed.
Something asked for a long time,
but will it be worthwhile, too?

Don't forget that this activity directly
applies a bounty, due to the new punishment & punishment.
Additionally, we now need another type of internal slot wasted on the
galaxies next top limpet.

FD, please..... let us choose specialized limpets,
and just have active limpet capacity calculated
on limpet controller sizes, ratings and numbers.

Agree.
There should just be a "Limpet Deployment" module.
Then you fill your cargo hold with however many of the various limpet types you need.
I don't expect we'll see this, but it would be nice.

To get back on topic, I too thought the megaship attack demo looked really cool. But to be honest, I got more excited about the mention of them extending this type of gameplay to other areas of the game.
Things like surface outposts, and the aforementioned derelict ship idea.

I appreciate that they're currently adding stuff like this geared towards wing play. But there's no reason they can't extend it to solo play either.

These appeared to have UBER quantities of various materials as compared to other sources. If DATA was also included as a resource to be taken from these ships, I can see it being a fun challenge for pretty much everyone's play-style.

However... Simply grabbing cargo canisters and such is of no interest to me. I've already got Billions of CR to spend, so money isn't a motivator, and hasn't been for several years.

It's really cool.

But.

1) Why not tie pirate wing mission to it ? It would allow to give appropriate rewards, and up the ante with additional defense ships depending on the mission difficulty.
2) Why not put very high value cargo like cold diamonds, painite and AI relics ?

Because 60 tons of random cargo will not provide a meaningfull payout for a wing of 4. Just sayin'

Nothing whatsoever to do with PVP. And the thing you're requesting is already in the game. There are wrecked freighters and various other points of interest which have salvageable materials in them. You can go do that right now.

Unless you're suggesting that there should be megaships with secure, locked cargo bays and defense turrets and everything, but hacking into them shouldn't be illegal and shouldn't alert the police? In which case, good news: there will almost certainly be megaships in Anarchy systems.

Maybe. But even there, you can still expect the megaship to shoot back. :)

Did you miss my second post? It makes pretty clear what I meant so I am unsure why you're confused.

Materials?
Did we both watch the same livestream?
The cargo rack just had normal commodities.

What is the megaship? the carrier for the squadrons? Have you ever seen a carrier alone? If someone approach mine be prepared for the squad wing!

I'm hoping we get some legal, legitimate options for doing this as well, such as Salvage Operations. This is a great venue for game play options.

It is, but if FD only does apply this to megaships that is desynched again.
We need this stuff on outposts aswell.
Allow me to raid DS Leonis federal Diamond reserves from the planetary base,
that'd be what was asked.
Let us impact the economy, to achieve that include a real economy,
not that "magical spawning" stuff.
