Attacking Fleet Carriers

given half a chance there are players who will burn the galaxy just for laughs!
What's more, there's a lot of overlap between the kinds of players who would do this in a game, and the kinds of players who have tried everything else and run out of other things to try in the game, or else extremely adept at finding quirks and foibles of the way any given game works in order to most effectively cause chaos.

It's not even a thing that's unique to Elite either, but I remember another thread mentioning that the big-name troublemakers in Elite are already some of the more coordinated groups out there in a universe full of mostly solo-actors. Honestly I think the only thing saving the game from more trouble at their hands is that most of them consider the BGS to be too slow-burn and grindy to be interesting.

My two pennies.......

Why not have FC's only attackable during CG's. If the owner sign's up for a CG then their FC would be liable for attack for the duration of the CG.

Because I don't have to be signed up to a CG to use my carrier to assist my friends, squad members or just paying customers in doing the CG. I just provide the space, storage, repair or whatever but don't actually sign up, the group doing the CG then have an indestructible FC to assist them.

Somewhat along the lines of what I have been thinking lately, although the FCs are not big enough for this, yet.

The Idea is the next level: SuperCarriers == FCs on steroids, if you will. Not for the timid. Not for the Poor. Carry fighters, and System Defense type ships == Anacondas, Vipers, Eagles, the whole mix. Can be hired out in a system, i.e. there are missions to provide system security. With the current limits of how many players can be in an instance, and if the defenses regenerate instantly like the NPCs that jump you on missions, attacking one of these babies would be a very dicey proposition, especially if they were on a mission that specified that their repairs would be paid for, (and you would have no way to know if they had acquired such a mission, so even a very successful attack could be for naught...)

One of the ways this might be made to work, and give some people a real challenge to bang their heads against for a while. Might be less bunny bashing if you can keep enough of them busy enough long enough...

;'{P~~~

Very EVE like, capital ships costs 100b esk, players spend thousands in real money to acquire one, maybe even tens of thousands, if you allow for expensive ships costing maybe billions to be destroyed it will lead to P2W mechanics by gold sellers, that's something I definitely don't want to see in ED.
