Autumn DLC Speculation

I wouldn't even know if there is a single special nocturnal exhibit animal existing........
PLENTY! Leopard or Tokay Gecko, most Scorpion species, some larger Snake species. And if they add small mammals to exhibit boxes, we might get Vampire Bats or Naked Mole Rats! Half of nocturnal house species are smaller ‘exhibit-style’ animals, so it would be a sin not to get one in this pack.

A gecko would definitely be my first choice for a nocturnal exhibit species, they're arguably the most notable missing group of lizards after chameleons (in terms of popularity to the general public). There's so many species you could choose from - tokay, leachie, crested, leopard, leaf-tailed, the list goes on.

Arctic pack: Polar Bear
South America pack: Jaguar
Australia pack: Koala
Aquatic pack: Giant Otter
South East Asian animal pack: Clouded leopard
Africa pack: Meerkat
North American animal pack: Californian Sea Lion
Europe pack: Eurasian Lynx (i like all of them though, very consistent pack, all animals look gorgeous)
Wetlands animal pack: Capybara/Platypus
Conservation pack: Siamang/Horse (hard to choose :()

For me:

Arctic pack: Reindeer
South America pack: Giant Anteater
Australia pack: Southern Cassowary
Aquatic pack: Giant Otter
South East Asian animal pack: Binturong
Africa pack: Meerkat
North American animal pack: Californian Sea Lion
Europe pack: Alpine Ibex
Wetlands animal pack: Capybara
Conservation pack: Siamang

Leaf-tailed gecko would be my absolute favourite!

Controversial opinion ahead most likely

As much as im excited for a nocturnal pack as the next person, im thinking it could be along the lines of in depth overhauls that say an aviary expansion requires. The good points would be a fantastic roster of smaller animals with the ability to finally make full indoor habitat buildings, highly requested animals like the porcupine and kiwi would be praised.
But we really dont have any mechanics in game for any sort of real nocturnal house. Interiors are bright, animals sleep at very random patterns, its hard enough building small habitats as it is and any sort of ground cover for such animals is non existant. That means lighting rework/blackout lights, sleep patterns and probably a huge list of minor changes to correctly implement
I remember the last time at the zoo with quite a few armadillos who spent at least a good 20 minutes zooming around from leaf pile to leaf pile. I would love an enrichment or even an interactive terrain paint like that with many of the current small animals could use.

probably a slight rant about the current favoring to the upcoming dlc but i would much rather just an animal pack rather than a pack marketed as nocturnal

Some of the nocturnal behavior and sleep patterns could also be a base game update. Possibly, but not as likely, new lights that would lend themselves to blackout and better indoor lighting use

Maybe frontier can implement this kind of stuff with settings or something like that like I can see settings that "react to the night" and another thing I thought about dark inside building frontier can implement it like that:
NightMode.png

and it will work like light that if u want it all the time to be dark so click "on" if u want it to be dark inside only at the night so click "automatic" and I u don't want it to be dark click "off" that a least my idea. like then u can build whatever u want u can build a dark reptile house and nocturnal houses I'm think It's the best solution for it a least what I though about lol

I think I mentioned it before regarding Nocturnal DLC l, but I think it would be perfectly fine if "Nocturnal" DLC name was used just as common denominator to include all of those animals in the pack.

Even if we didn't get lights, or indoor darks, or sleep patterns, I think it would still be fantastic pack if we got all of those animals just like that and use nocturnal for the theme just because they're nocturnal in real life

As most of the major arctic/polar animals are already in the game, they could do a small mammal/exhibits DLC for december.....
But for such a nocturnal pack, I would highly prefer this list:
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • African Crested Porcupine
  • Linnaeus's two-toed sloth
  • Common Wombat
  • Fossa
  • North Island Brown Kiwi
  • Raccoon
  • Brown Hyena
...over everything else (as only one nocturnal exhibit wouldn't be enough for a night house anyways... 🤔).

Just came across this video which includes the birds in Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection (which Frontier also developed for XBox) and got really excited seeing flying Blue-Throated Macaw (11:08) which also interact with keepers (!!), flying Common Barn Owl (17:46), Gallagher Cockatoo (23:11), Gang Gang Cockatoo (at 23:58), Great Green Macaw (27:23), Grey Falcon (29:16), Hyacinth Macaw (35:04), Lesser Sooty Owl (42:09), Military Macaw (49:46), Palm Cockatoo (59:23), Penegrine Falcon (59:44), Scarlet Macaw (1:09:16), Sooty Owl (1:11:50), Suphur Crested Cockatoo (1:18:48).

It is limited focusing on species of owl, cockatoo, macaw and falcon, but cool none the less.

What strikes me is that this is evidence of Frontier animating smaller birds (albeit in looped animations) previously alongside what we can see with the flying animals in JWE2, so Frontier have 100% done what we are seeking before.

At this point, I’d be happy with looped animations for birds just to see them in game and what I’d give to see keepers and educators interacting with them like in the clip!

I appreciate the complexity but I think it would be a real loss to not get them and am crossing everything that one day we get these in game.

The other thing that struck me in the video was the animations for snakes - so wonderful to see these moving around more and a shame this is limited in Planet Zoo as they move in such a unique way.
Interestingly in the showcase that game also had Himalayan Brown Bear and their Asian Black Bear was specified as Formosan.

Would also be the only DLC where every animal would be perfect (what I couldn't say from any DLC they released so far)

I don't think people would react very well to an Exhibits DLC, starting with me.

Besides whichever Exhibit animal would come with potential Nocturnal DLC could easily be accompanied by some exhibit animals already in game that are nocturnal irl
