Autumn DLC Speculation

An island pack really would be a great opportunity for some more diverse representation from all around the globe.
Personally i would love a 2+2+2+2 Setup, representing 4 different Islands/groups of islands with 2 animals each.

If i would make it, it would be something like the Fossa and Radiated Tortoise from madagascar (one is insanly popular and the apex predator of the Island, the other is one of the most notorious smaller tortoises that still could be a habitat animal and even have enritchment with the lemures), a treekangaroo and the victoria crowned pidgeon from oceania (again, very popular and difficult to make animal, aswell as one of the most beautifull walking birds for tropical houses and group aviaries), the Anoa and Sulawesi Crested Macaque for Indonesia (While not needed, both of them would add some larger animals to the pack and are unique in their underrepresented groups, the luzons giant cloudrat could also be here) and lastly the Hawaiian Goose and any exhibit animal as i dont care for them (we need goose and this is a very common in captivity, endandgerd and beautiful one).

So yeah, island pack? Im all for it!

Do anybody knows when this Frontier Annual report would be issued?
Frontier’s financial year end was 31 May.
This report will probably lighten things up a bit for us but I can’t remember when we can expect it. September?

In the last report the have written:
“The future for Planet Zoo is bright with its ever growing community of players supported by our strategy of free and paid content.”

I just wonder what they will write right now?

With the last 5 DLC’s they introduced us to some new amazing mechanics and behaviors:

  • Africa - Meerkats digging
  • NA - Arctic fox hunting behavior
  • Europe - Badger and Aardvark burrowing
  • Wetlands - Capybara and macaque bathing
  • Conservation - Siamang brachiation

When you see this all together it’s getting more and more obvious that they won’t stop on that and in the autumn animal pack they will introduce us to something new and special too.

They are developing this game in a way that none of us would expect at the beginning. So it’s not only about highly requested animals anymore but also about something special they could bring to the game too. So they mix both making this game even more amazing.

At this point only flying and full aquatics are really on the table and after brachiation implementation in the conservation pack I feel like nothing is impossible anymore.

So my prediction for September would be the Islands animal pack with the:

Tasmanian devils (most requested animal now)
and
Caribbean manatees (introducing full aquatics)

as the stars of the pack accompanied by:

Fossa (unique predator from Madagascar)

Tree kangaroo (arboreal marsupial from New Guinea)

Walrus (highly requested pinniped from the islands of the north)

Kiwi (bird from New Zealand that livein burrows)

Lar gibbon (second gibbon to use the gift of brachiation - just like it was with otters or penguins)

It sounds like a solid animal pack to me. What do you guys think?

You all know what? Looking at the sun flowers and the pumpkins and all that, I feel like we have our autumn pack in the summer this year, but the summer pack moved to the fall slot. Could it be? Then again, that would break the animal pack - stuff pack routine...
I get pumpkins -> halloween -> autumn.

But what do SUNflowers have to do with autumn? And either I think they want to stick to the scenery-animal pattern.

I noticed that too, Frontier is definitely providing us with some plants/scenery that are often associated with fall’s seasonal harvests. There are also plants associated with summer though in the DLC, so I think they’ve done a good job of providing us with some diverse pieces that cover both the summer and fall seasons (which makes sense as fall will likely be an animal pack so there won’t really be any new pieces).

Gotta say though one additional fall prop/foliage piece (as sometimes we do get two or three plants with animal packs) is a set of leaf litter pieces. Would be really useful for detailing and animal bedding.

This would be my dream Autumn DLC. We get the new number 1 animal from the meta wishlist, another South American monkey, an Asian exhibit (the only thing Asia is really lacking), the red deer to match the decoration pieces we have, more Australian representation, a porcupine with a brand new rig and animations for the quills, the popular wolverine as the big predator of the pack and the lovely raccoon as the first climbing animal for North America.

I really like this idea! It would fill many niches of different biomes that are the forests.

My take on islands animal pack.
T. Devil - Tasmania
Fossa - Madagascar
Javan Lutung - Java
Kiwi - New Zealand
Island Fox - Channel Islands
Lowland Anoa - Celebes
Philippine Spotted Deer - Visayas
Japanese Giant Salamander - Japan
All of them live exclusively on islands. Some examples of island dwarfism like fox and anoa. Every animal in pack represent something new for game.
Made with mind of 4 + 3 + 1 frontier model for animal packs.

With the latest two DLCs there is really no basis to predict an Autumn DLC. One thing we do know is that the last DLCs (since Africa) have all been accompanied by a free update that introduced new behaviours and often quite radical new game features. It also seems like the latest DLCs were picked by combining features they wanted to introduce and fitting them into a theme somehow (no criticism, the result is great).

The most likely option at the moment seems a Forests animal DLC, since it's in line with last year's North America pack and it's another 'biome pack' if that's really a thing. Good options for animals would be the red deer, black bear, Tasmanian devil, red fox and wolverine. If we get this, I expect it to come with Autumn variants to some tree species in the free update, as they also existed in Planet Coaster. Perhaps there could be more seasonality features added though I don't expect radical changes such as dynamic foliage changes or arctic foxes changing their skin. Problems with this pack are that there's little room for new behaviours (unless forests include rainforests which in fact are a totally different biome) and that many animals that live in forests would not really be typical forest animals. Examples include wallabies, crested porcupines and even red deer, which have all been suggested here for such a pack. A final problem is that it would probably be another mammal-only DLC unless they include something like a turkey.

Another 'biome pack' that could work is a Mountains animal DLC. This pack could include more or less one animal from each continent with some options for species being the spectacled bear, gelada, Alpine marmot, bighorn sheep, markhor, takin and Chinese giant salamander (for exhibits). It has more diverse options and more biome-consistent species than the forests pack, but still comes with the problems that it is very mammal-dominated and unlikely to introduce fundamentally new behaviours. I also can't really think of any fitting features for the free update to come with this pack.

Non-biome centred options could include a Nocturnal DLC, though I think this would fit better as a scenery pack. Since we're likely to get an animal pack, I would expect this for the final update of the year, if we don't get aviaries or aquariums.

I have 3 guesses:

Highlands pack
Could contain animals such as
  • Gelada
  • Rock hyrax or any alpine marmot (I'm aware that hyrax's are not rodents, bt I feel like the casual player would see both as "furry brown mountain groundhog")
  • Matschie's tree-kangaroo or yellow-footed rock wallaby
  • Golden pheasant or Himalayan monal
  • Pallas cat or fossa
  • Yak, Takin or Markhor
  • Spectacled bear

Canopies Pack
Animals could include
  • Any sloth
  • Fossa
  • Margay, jaguarundi, or ocelot
  • So. Many. Primates. I would be disappointed if we got a pack of this theme and it only had one monkey/gibbon species.
  • Any tree kangaroo
  • Racoon or coati
  • Several types of martin
This could also be the type of pack to introduce birds and flight mechanics, but that's an "I'll believe it when I see it" type of thing that I'm not going to bother speculating on.

Islands Pack
Animals could include
  • Tasmanian devil or Eastern quoll (not strictly speaking island restricted anymore, but does show how islands can become refuges for animals which are at risk elsewhere)
  • Tree kangaroos from PNG
  • Kiwi, takahe, or Victoria crowned pigeon
  • Fossa
  • Falklands steamer duck or rockhopper penguin
  • Japanese serrow, tanuki, salamander, or red fox

I'm hoping that waterfowl, red river hogs, dromedaries, emu, more domestics and... maybe... a little snuffle nose antelope will show up as some point, but until then fossas and tree Kangaroos seem likely.

Maybe an "Allert" Behavior? Marmots do it and Meerkats, Prairiedog too, when they spot an enemie. Would be nice to have this behavior :)
... or this climbing on steep cliffs could also be a thing.

Replace the Walrus with a Southern elephant seal and the Lar gibbon with the Coconut crab and it would be perfect for me :)

In the cardmaking world they are associated with harvest and fall. Of course they grow in the summer, like pumpkins really, but they are "ripe" more towards fall here.

For sure, when I saw the wheelbarrows, the pumpkins, the sunflowers...I am definitely getting autumn vibes, like a farm in autumn. Now all we need is a petting pack...

On topic, I have a hard time predicting anything at this point, but personally I would love a petting pack or like a forest pack. They definitely surprised us with the Conservation pack. Not one person thought that this would be the next DLC.

To be quite honest, I'm still missing too much non-petting animals to really advocate for a petting pack. And even if I personally don't need a bunch of oceania animals (because I'm just not used to Oceania sections in zoos I visit), I feel players from the southern hemisphere definately deserve some more attention and love, before we get a normal sheep or goat.
Let alone all the monkey species, south american, asian and north american species (and yes, some from Europe too) I'm missing.
Same as I don't need functional playgrounds. If it was up to me, they could steal some animations from Planet Coaster, give us an old merry-go-round and call it a day. I mean, we have wonderful purely decorative playgrounds already. In a time where what is left of development time is probably very limited, I'd rather have them concentrate on more additions like the sniffing behaviour more, to give the animals more personalities. (Though I kinda hope not all lions will smell flowers now :D Feels a bit romantisised.)

I'd like some official ones, even if they are purely decorative. Just for realism's sake. I'm not too bothered whether the kids actually play on them (I'd rather the work necessary to do that went into something else) but I've never been to a zoo that didn't have some kind of playground for when the little kids inevitably get bored and need to burn off some energy.
