This rather out-there idea popped into my head while trying to think of another way to integrate an extinction-themed pack into PZ without going into the controversial route of de-extinction (which is what you thought this was from the title, eh?). Rather than truly extinct species, this pack concept focuses on so called "Lazarus taxa", species believed extinct that are later rediscovered alive. A standard pack, it includes the following species:
As for the scenery, the Back from Extinction Pack would include all sorts of signs and items themed around extinction (including pieces themed around iconic extinct species - Thylacine, Great Auk, Quagga, Passenger Pigeon, etc - just like the Dodo statue in the base game) which can be useful when decorating conservation education centres or small zoo museums. It would also come with new foliage, which like the animals would all be Lazarus taxa (eg. Wollemi Pine).
Obvious disclaimer: Not meant to be a prediction, just for fun
- Bridled Nailtail Wallaby (Onychogalea fraenata) - Thought extinct since 1937, rediscovered in 1973
- Bush Dog (Speothos venaticus) - Described from fossils in 1842, with living individuals discovered a year later. However, they were not realised to be the same species until well into the 20th century
- Chacoan Peccary (Catagonus wagneri) - Described from fossils in 1930, discovered alive in 1971
- South Island Takahē (Porphyrio hochstetteri) - Thought extinct since 1898, rediscovered in 1948
- Crested Gecko (Correlophus ciliatus) - Thought extinct since 1866, rediscovered in 1994
