Newcomer / Intro Back In The Bubble After Some Years: What Is This Legacy All About?

Hello there and friendly greetings!
After some years of hiatus I reinstalled E: D and I discovered this "Legacy": Legacy Elite Dangerous and Legacy Horizons.
I've searched around a bit to understand what's this all about and I made some sort of recap, but I kindly need someone who would eventually correct me if I got this thing wrong.

So, if I got it right, the "Legacy" version of the game is completely detached from the online version and a lot downgraded compared to the "Online" version.

So, if I got it right, whatever I do in "Legacy" version do not affect the "Online" version and viceversa: I can blow out all my ships and credits but the "Online" save will remain intact. And viceversa. Whatever I do online, it does not affect the "Legacy" version.

Hence, I can play the following modes:
  1. ONLINE
  2. ONLINE IN SOME GROUPS
  3. SOLO (alone but still connected to the official servers)
  4. LEGACY (totally offline, what happen in Legacy, remains in Legacy)

Legacy is the game and code that was played by everyone until after Odyssey arrived when they eventually gave up on making Odyssey work on consoles they updated Horizons to the same code as Odyssey and so created two versions of the game Legacy on the old code with console players but no further updates, story etc though fixes promised if it breaks and Live on the new code full support story and CGs. Both are online games but have no connection so what happens in one doesn’t affect the other.

Yes but both are online.

You can play in Open, Groups or Solo in Live or Legacy but both are totally online.

You are right in that what happens in Live doesn’t affect what happens in Legacy.

The key misunderstanding was that there is no "Online Version". There is just a Legacy version, and a Live version. Both are always online, but each version is independent of the other. Both play the same, but Legacy does not include any content released since Odyssey. Legacy will not be developed further, Live will.

Ah, that would be why I'm in some station in the Eravate system in legacy as EDMC states from 7 years ago and when I entered the system yesterday and found out I'm in Maia, floating about 460ly away. Hmmmm!
Will have to figure out what to do. Thanks commanders.
