Bah, where's the pirate code?!

I understand when pirates complain about traders logging after interdiction, but when you get stories like this, you can hardly blame those traders for logging or going into solo/PvE mode.

The pirates should be complaining about the pew-pew guys instead.

Yep agree 100% its those guys that ruin it for the rest of the honorable pirates, blame the pew pew guys they are at fault.

I don't know what you mean by we crossed it with 1.1.02.? What changed in the game with that patch?

Interdiction rate, power unit outputs, handful of graphical things. Difficult to say comprehensively without any changelogs.

The point I was trying to make (badly as its way past my bedtime) is that NPCs were set to interdict and destroy everything, anywhere, regardless.

Behaviour that is all to quickly emulated by humans.

It has crystallised more than a few issues for me, both technically with game mechanics, but moreover culturally.

That is culturally, piracy needs to have one.

No.. we shouldn't blame other players ...
Even a 'killer' is not to blame.

Better ask to FD to improve gameplay. As long as there is a possibility to pull the trigger and escape unharmed there will always be players who don't give a damn about reputation / role-playing / good vs bad guys...
If FD wants to limit the amount of 'senseless kills' there are easy ways to prevent this.

Once the pirates have chased all the traders into PvE who are they going to go after then? I agree that traders need to submit and give up some cargo. Pirates have to eat too. But to expect to give up all the cargo or get blown up is just not reasonable. There must be communication between the pirate and the trader. Work it out between you and come to an agreement. Everyone should be able to fly away with ships intact.

the issue is that as long as there is no way to stop one's ship without damaging it to the point of destruction or self destruction, you don't have time for said discussion.

currently there is no module allowing you to prevent one from jumping out, it's either he get out or he's destroyed

what is needed is a way to prevent a ship from jumping out, and no i'm not talking about this half backed mass lock which doesn't even work 50% of the time, something reliable.

blame the pewpew guys, yes, but what is better?

blame them, or try to understand WHY they act like they do?

maybe some are just psycho killers, or maybe the game mechanic is broken / not good enought and this behaviour is an attempt (with good or bad result, it doesn't matter) to overcome it?

yelling and pointing fingers is easy, but what is really needed is understanding WHY they act like they do and solve the root issue

What about pirates who pull you out of supercruise, and then run away like frightened chickens when you unload all your guns on them? :D

Always submit and run, smaller ships won't have time to blow you up.

Get back to Supercruise, drop to normal space again(Immediately) and leave it flying to your destination at normal speed while you go get a cup of coffee. There's no way he'll find you and by the time you're back he won't be around and you'll have a nice drink for your travels.

Works all the time except when there's no coffee.

TL;DR it all, so apologies if this has already been pointed out...

This only works if a single pirate is after you, if there is more than one, they will still see your low energy wake and can drop in; if you've then gone for "coffee" then your a sitting duck...

My issue is the awful NPC/AI pirates that will attack and start firing straight away without giving the opponent chance to drop cargo or anything even an all out fighter with no cargo hold! I have 3 ships, an Asp, a type7 and a Viper which are all maxed to what is best for them. So a pirate in a Sidewinder with no shields attacks me in a Viper with no cargo....... How does that work? He didn't last long enough to have chance to think that maybe shields would be a good idea. Normally I run off in my type7 as most ships don't have the capacity to keep up AND fire whilst without any weapons to worry about I can switch SYS and ENGINE on full as I boost and get away. It's worked so far.

just boost away with good shields and you should be fine. just make sure you have good enough shields.
i have never lost my ship to pirating once i upped my shields i just ignore them and carry on with my business.
