Barely back in the saddle (seat) a week and idiots strike

Related to the "exchange" above, do you (whoever is reading this) feel that being part of this forum is a necessity to get the maximum enjoyment from the game Elite Dangerous?

tbh, im just some bloke who posts on gaming forum about a game I play. Dont see myself as being anything other than that as in "community"

The forums do hold useful information and ive even been known to pass some on, so in a way they go some way towards my enjoyment, but no they are not a necessity.

How do you know ?, people keep saying it can be abused and when asked for examples it's all just vague fears usually from people who don't actually understand how the block function works. The example you've given here of undermining is ludicrous, as the best place to undermine is obviously solo.

How do I know? It's simple. Go out to an expansion for Fed or Imp, kill a few players, and you have your result. It's occurred to me before, and I was called out on discord by the blockers that they "blocked me to continue expansion work". The abuse of the function is real. If you don't believe me, go and test it out for yourself. :)

What makes you think it's sudden the block function was there before launch.

Because it was never discussed until below in that thread:
More info for you here if you want to know more about how it actually works : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ners-advice-on-dealing-with-griefing-(part-2)

And yeah.. I'm fully aware of how it works.. but thanks anyway. Personally, the feature could have been developed better in this way:

- Player gets killed by Ganker.
- Ganker receives a bounty and hidden karma deduction.
- (If the player has crimes off. Then the karma deduction is not added to the Ganker)
- The less karma you have with that player, the less likely you will see that specific player.
- And so forth..

At the moment, all I see is a "oh no! He shot at me! *BLOCK*" or a "Well I know my destruction is justified. But I'll just block him to not get destroyed. *BLOCK*". It's anti-social for both the blocker and the ganker. A better system needs to be implemented.

The dev quotes in that thread are all dated, the first is from 2014.

I've never blocked a ganker, as I like blowing them up. Station griefers and cheats (mostly both) are the only people I ever block.

However I'm a great believer in player choice, and the futility of trying to force other players to play with anyone they don't want to. Allowing people to make use of the block function as they see fit isn't a problem for me as there are so many other players around. Also with solo and group being so easily accessible any attempts to force people to play in certain ways are pretty much pointless.

It boils down to me not being bothered at all about what people I'm not instanced with are up to. With regard to the BGS destroying player ships is the least effective method of supporting or opposing a faction.

Again with the prejudice and labeling of people based on their in-game actions . This community sometimes makes me really sad.

Do tell what we are supposed to do instead. All any of us have to go off of is the actions of another player in game. Are we supposed to sit down with every griefer and troll in the game and actually get to know them face to face? Cause that isn't happening. Actions speak louder than words. If someone acts like an immature mental teenager, what conclusion are we supposed to come to? Hmm? If the shoe fits... Welcome to the internet. If it makes you sad, maybe you are in the wrong place. If your username is anything to go by, why are you even here? (rhetorical questions, I don't care about any answers you might give)

In a more general sense, this thread...We got people not knowing what the title actually means (go do your homework so that you don't spout nonsense people). We got whats his face derailing the topic with the blocking mechanic. We got name calling (seriously, is this elementary school again?). We got the pvp tryhards who claim "PvP owns Open," despite it being patently untrue and despite the fact that they need to deflate their egos a lot. And people wonder why so many avoid Open like the plague..... To borrow from Shakespeare, but using it in a sarcastic way, like how Nick Valentine uses the line in Fallout 4 : "How beauteous mankind is. Oh brave new world. That has such people in it..." Ha...as if.

I'd be more convinced of your superiority if you weren't flinging mud.

Learning to distinguish reality from game drama is a good start.

Oh and I didn't know I'm not allowed into any ED discussion just because I love EvE. To the point of having abandoned it in much pain.

I'd be more convinced of your superiority if you weren't flinging mud.

Wanted to rep you, but I've spread too much love and the 24h love pot is empty apparently

What on earth makes you think I need/want/desire your approval?

Not trying to convince anyone of anything here. Certainly don't consider myself superior. Just some musings that I decided to type up.

Learn to read. I specifically stated that any question I asked are rhetorical. Not expecting an answer, and not really caring about an answer either. That is all. Have a nice day, or don't, makes very little difference to me.

welcome to the hotel california. such a lovely place...

wrong. braben said open isnt pvp mode. its supposed to be a pve mode with player interaction OCCASIONALLY with some player combat. it was never ever meant or designed as a shoot em up game.

Finally somebody just said it and it is the honest truth.
This is not ever intended as a pvp shoot em up game.
It is the modern day version of a 1984 space trading game which had some pve combat in it.

All cool, he just forgot to quote or source his statements on what Braben said or did not say.

The 1984 game could also be seen as a rinse and repeat arcade shooter with some trading. Of course the game isn't solely PvP combat game but the fact that it is allowed means that FD do mean for it to be part of the game. Main point that comes from these threads is that most traders are more bothered about credits per hours than designing a ship that can excape a PvP pirate or blockader or the exploreers who don't have the commmon sense to change to a more suitable ship than a D-rated asp when they get back to the bubble to fly their exploration data to their desired destination and just want the game to be a safe space, unfortunately for them open isn't and a C&P system really won't do much to change it in the way that many seem to want it to.
