Been gone a while... what happened to the store? It had such a functional, clean interface!

Frontier's store was 97% excellent when I was there last.

Now its full of meaningless, overly saturated, garish, big flat panels and minimal information...
If this was an attempt at following the latest software fashion, well, I'll abstain from telling you what I really think about it.

And "ARX" sounds like "Yuck" in another language I know... who ever picked that name?
Is this optional to use if you absolutely want buy cosmetics in-game?
Or are you forced to buy ARX even if you want to buy stuff on the website?

Or are you forced to buy ARX even if you want to buy stuff on the website? Nobody forces you to buy ARX if you don't want to buy stuff. If you don't want to buy stuff, just ignore it and play the game which, incidentally, gives you free ARX as you play.

But yes, all transactions are now in ARX. Not everyone is happy about that but 🤷‍♂️

Poor guy - missed out on the months of "Will there even be a web shop?" rage. Kids these days eh?

Edit: And missed the blue shop outrage! September was a bad time to be away ;)
Good times had by all! :D

You can only buy cosmetics items now using ARX, whether that be in-game or through the website. You can earn free ARX through playing the game, but it's capped at 400 per week.

What happened? This :

(to see how well that went - just read through the comments and reactions ;) )

ARX - a common video game abstraction to separate the association of ingame micro transactions and real money.

incidentally, since the introduction of ARX every item’s cost has gone up and you must buy ARX in packs...which are always larger than what you need to buy any given item.

Also the introduction of ARX broke the game for nearly a month.

enjoy! Black Friday is just around the corner

[edit] it has been pointed out to me that not EVERY item in the store has gone up in price. However, you cannot buy just the item you want and have to spend more than the cost of the item so you still end up extending FDev some credit. Single item purchases have become significantly more expensive and you're pushed into multiple purchases to avoid this penalty.

This is incorrect. Some have gone up, some have gone down.

The rest is more or less true though.

If that’s the case I missed those items. What has gone down? Everything I checked was more expensive and the individual paint jobs that were part of bundles were still more expensive if you bought them all separately.

I know comparisons get less “expensive if you compare against the big ARX packs.

In any case I’m not buying anything until game quality improves and FDev introduces some features I want to see.

As @FalconFly has already highlighted, there were numerous announcements leading up to the changes but while I do not entirely agree with you regarding the Web-store changes, I do get where you are coming from.

The web-store interface now closely reflects the in-game store appearance which IMO is not entirely justified (they could have just changed the currency/price) but it is what it is - the same information is still there but presented in a different form.

The change to ARX for store currency is a double edged sword - on one hand you can (in theory) earn upto 400 ARX per week through normal gameplay and on the other you can now buy individual paint items that were previously only available in packs. Depending on how you acquire your ARX ED cosmetics will be either more or less expensive (in real world cash terms) than they were in the previous cash store.

If you want to be taken serious, at least rotate your avatar 90 degrees counterclockwise, Niels.
Just saying.

For the topic, I like Arx.

The new store actually conveys more information than the old store. The old store displayed a grid of 4x4 item previews, the new store displays a grid of the same size, plus an additional featured item and slideshow of featured items. So that's 23 items now displayed on the main page, as opposed to the previous 16.

The new sorting features are also much easier to use.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by garish or overly saturated. The old store used a color scheme of blue and orange for text against a white background (against another image background, which, altogether, looked a bit busy). The new store uses the same blue and orange for text, just against a black background.

This is a self-solving problem. If you don't like it, just don't use it ;)

I agree it's a bit tacky but I guess Frontier thinks the demographic has changed & it's current store will be more appealing overall.

The removal of the simple browser based store was a mistake in my opinion. It was easy to see what was new and look for things of interest.

The new in game store is a UI and UX train crash that favours trying to look cool over user accessibility. I have purchased nothing since it went live as it's not where I am used to going and cannot easily see what is new at a glance.

There are rumours of a return to having a browser based store, but nothing has appeared as yet. I also fear they will try to copy in dreadful in game experience. If so I guess there will be no further purchases for me. As a designer in the real world I detest poor UI. If I can't find the information or transactions I need without having t click around and think then I simply don't use it.

This is an example of someone trying to fix something that was not broken and just making a mess covered in glitter.

The browser based store returned over a week ago.
