Before I send in a support ticket...this ship name isn't actually censorship-worthy, right?

I still think it would be less work overall to just allow us to turn the pesky filter off. Lol

So much this!! I'm betting they probably have to do it to maintain a certain age rating on the game, but I would certainly like the opportunity to switch the filters off and have a more adult friendly universe at my finger tips...

It's a shame we can't set up polls on the forum.. I'd be quite interested to see what the age demographic of players was...

The filter is pretty odd alright and it seems to be an ongoing issue that it can't read full words or any context at all. Mostly it's entertaining but there's gotta be a better way.

Either way I'm curious as to what in 'Coupe DeVille' could have irked the filter! :D

I may be old .... but inside, I'm a vulnerable teenager [haha]

As am I. When I hear back I'll let you all know what caused the flag.

I have 28 other ships with names and I'd really rather not be surprised one day to find out those are censored too, you know?

Name your ship restart the game (maybe exiting to the menu might work..) go to the external camera watch the stars (it should also be in the HUD somewhere...)

If your name is censored the "offending letters" will be replaced by *s (my Asp "Shrödingers cat" got censored for mysterious reasons...)

The journal files will record whether or not a given ship is censored. Switch to the ship in question and check for the ***s.

In this case I'm reasonably certain it's the "pede" that's triggering it, because I saw the same combination cause problems with another player's ship name. I assumed it to be a slang term for a denizen of a specific subsection of the Sex Offenders' Register; I had no idea of the French slur before reading it in this thread.

And they say videogames aren't educational.

I think I follow. I'll give it a try.

Would you happen to know where would I find the journal file?

Pretty sure the best thing would simply be for the ENTIRE gaming industry to tell these pro-censorship groups to get bent and go bankrupt and simply stop using them. Don't submit to them, don't print their ratings on your materials, and ignore them right out of business.

And do so with a massive media storm stating they no longer support them, will no longer use them, they can get bent, and follow through.

I know, I know, it's not supposed to be a parent's job to actually raise their children any more - it's supposed to be the job of a nanny government and various corporate interests because who has time to actually read the packaging of a game, or take five entire minutes to perform a web search?

And we only need to look around at the world as it is today to see just what a wonderful job all these government agencies and special interest corporations are doing raising kids - I won't even bother to recount the ever-growing list of tragedies in the past six months let alone past six years that illustrate what a bang-up job is being done.

PEGI and the ESRB just need put down. They're worthless anyways.

Such pathetic childish politically correct hog wash. - referring to Frontier's censorship, not the above video, although both are pretty pathetic.

... and apparently their job is to protect the dumb parents from too much information ;)

A forty-foot man would not have a large enough middle finger to raise to "loot boxes".

A forty-foot man with severe macrodactyly would not have a large enough middle finger to raise to "loot boxes".

I'm not sure I've made my loathing of loot boxes clear enough, but this isn't about loot boxes - thank the powers that be we don't have to contend with that garbage here.

But this does lend further support to the position that PEGI and the ESRB just need to go.

I always found the name filter to be a little ironic. "Blaze your own trail, unless you want to name your ships a word that could hurt someone's feelings then it's a no no."

Just a little silly that the game encourages you to be a slave trader but naming your ship something someone might get a little upset over is off limits.

Probably a foreign language translation error. Like the Ford Pinto in Brazil I think it was?

Anyway, time for a joke:

No! The machines are taking over! Turn it off! Turn it all off! Ahhhh!

But not before we make sure to keep the good looking female ones safe first.....

A tool such as EDDiscovery or EDMC can read the files for you in real time and provide feedback as you play the game, but if you don't want to faff with third-party applications you can just look at the latest .log file in Windows Explorer.

(If you do start messing around with third-party tools it's one hell of a rabbit hole and you may soon find you can't play the game without them. You have been warned.)

I don't know....they censored my ship ID which was 80085...which is a number. 80084....fine! 80086.....knock your self out. 3489952...no problem! 80085...oh no.
