Being a Criminal

The crime system is unequivocally broken as a career choice.

The cornerstone of such activities should be risk/reward, but any player that has a modicum of awareness about payouts will know all criminal activities are basically the lowest paying in the game.

Cheers for the optimism dude but crime needs a serious review.

THIS. 1000%.

Bringing up my second character, every mission board at every station, anarchy or otherwise, would read as having one or two piracy or smuggling missions at 50k and 20 odd data delivery missions at 200k a piece.

I was going for a bit of realism actually. Career criminals are a minority, even w/ improved game tracks to criminality they are likely to remain a small group.

Many players are capitalist at heart and will go after the higher pay and the flashy bits.

Crime, in this game, literally doesn't pay.

The new C&P update may also change the dynamics of crime. I'm assuming that it will be in place for any criminal activity against NPCs as well as live players. Griefers may have to reconsider their playing style...or not if profits and rebuys don't matter. Meanwhile a large number of missions are related to criminal activity whether fighting for a faction, smuggling supplies, or the sneaky ones finding out they involve criminal activity upon arriving at a destination.

The way to go might be having lots of credits then flying smaller less expensive ships for criminal activity. FAS, DBS, Vulture, Imp Courier, even up to the Fer de Lance, Imp Clipper, Python and the new Chieftain may become more prominent. Flying the big three may be too risky for many with low credits. Excellent combat pilots with engineered ships can easily wreck havoc as desired without too much worry about C&P.

Then again does it really change anything? It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

What's the difference between a Pirate and a Criminal? Aren't these the same in practice?

This latest update is basically a way to punish criminals just because that crime is against a commander instead of a NPC. Not really what I was promised

The changes will be applying punishments for murdering NPCs and Commanders.

I expect that seasoned criminals will adapt and carry on, while those who weren't really cut out for it will whine on the forums before going back to RES welfare.
