Besides Star Citizens, What is a great alternative for Elite Dangerous?

Children of a Dead Earth if you are interested in exploring what space warfare could be like. As in, actual space warfare, not ww2 dogfights in space-looking goo. With orbits, slingshots, fuel preservation, missiles that get shot from millions of kms away and not 300m, lasers, nukes, drone swarms... If you wait for a sale, you can usually pick it up for less than a fiver.
Probably would work for me, I'm one those weirdos who like sub sims, with modern tech :)

Really? TC, Rebirth and X4? Dont member it in TC.

Well, TC stands for Terran Conflict, so yes, definitely THE Terran corvette.

Moreover, the Katana was actually one of the very first ships anyone could see about the then upcoming X3 stand-alone expansion, when the game was still little more than a couple concept artworks of the new Terran assets.

Lol if Empyrion had half the realistic graphics that ED had
And sound! Last time I played Empyrion the sound (and graphics for that matter) made me think I was back playing games on my new 60 Hz Pentium running the just released Windows 95, LOL.

Though personally I'd rather see Space Engineers get NPC characters and exploration / end game content. Thankfully the developers have strongly hinted that this is coming later this year 🤗

What was the name of the ring around Earth again? That was impressive to see.

I've been playing the latest X4 almost daily. Like Old Duck, I have my warthog set up where flying in X4 is pretty cool. The F/A off really helps with combat IMO and with handling/flying the larger ships. I love having NPC crewmates on my bridge (and on stations), and being able to fly pretty much any ship I build. My favorite is the Terran Asgard (Thor's Hammer) battleship with a Terran Corvette docked on the deck as a personal runabout. I'm still finding/exploring sectors (300+ hours into the game this time) to explore. I just found some pirates hanging out in some hidden (from me) sectors. I even found a casino! And I still find stuff that prompts me to jump into my space suit and do some exploring that way. Flying around in a space suit is kinda cool too.

I'm not really into the 'flying a spreadsheet' aspect, so I keep things to a minimum of sorts. I do have three stations to manage, which is a bit of a pain, but I like being able to have my own personal home/stations. I build my own security services to guard my personal stuff. :)

I did enough of the missions to bolster my alliances a bit, and to get the teleport function, but now I just wander around doing my own thing. Pretty much like I did in Horizons, but I think I like this better. The no multiplayer aspect is great and this game actually feels more 'alive' to me that Horizons does.

The Torus Eternal. So Eternal, it got blown up just a few years later. (Auto self-destructed due to critical failure after blowing up one of its sections, to be lore-nerd) 🤭
Ah yes, the Torus. I think the Kuat Drive Yards are older in terms of lore, but Torus Eternal is my fav orbital ring station. Really missed it in X4.

OP, I would say X4 probably, if graphics is a thing with you.
If space and ships in particular is your joy, plus interiors of course. Then perhaps give Space Engineers a try, graphics aren't as polished but there is more in there building wise.

Star Citizen would be the perfect Space game IF the developers would endly clean it from the hundred of bugs plaging it.

It came to a point where I didn't even enjoy playing it, I prefer the less developed Elite Dangerous Horizon, at least I'm not distracted by bugs and crashed ten times a day.

I wish we had a developed version of Descent: FreeSpace, in fact, all those games are its grand children, for the time it was the best thing that happened to gaming for a while.

Just thinking about playing other space games. What is a great alternative besides Star Citizens? Any space game goes, doesn't need to be multiplayer.
Eve Online. The grandpappy of hardcore space games.

The game is going through a tumultuous period now as CCP, probably at the behest of Pearl Abyss, is trying to modernize the game by updating the graphics and sounds, and putting a lot of effort into the "New Player Experience" so the game isn't as nightmarish as it once was to get into. As a (very) casual Eve player, I am really liking what I see so far. Of course, the "bitter vets" are now more bitter because they are no longer the apple of CCP's eye, so they are all venting themselves out of the airlock in protest, driving player counts down to lows not seen since ~2006 or so (that's still a respectable 16K average). But you know what? That is also a good thing for casuals because I've been playing the game for a few weeks now and haven't been ganked once (and I play solo, including mission running and mining in low sec on occassion). :) And while the monthly sub has increased to $20, CCP is now also offering special deals like the "Weekend Fleet Pack" sub (that is good for three days of premium account time along with some PLEX for good measure for $4) that takes some of the sting out. Of course, the f2p "Alpha" accounts are still available all the time and are great for new players to try the game.

Eve also has a lot of exploration. In addition to over 1200 systems in Hi Sec alone, you also have over 2000 wormholes, each containing its own bevy of planets and moons and sites to discover. Then there is probe scanning that can locate cosmic signatures and cosmic anomalies for additional exploration opportunities. Eve also added Abyssal Space as well, which is something I haven't even tried yet. As an explorer, there is a lot to do!

If you haven't played for a long time or just never tried it before, now's a good time IMO! Eve still has all the "sand" that I wish Elite had in its shallow sandbox. There is so much to do and try!

I took an easy mission delivering some tourists tonight to the above station. Nice view! I guess that is why the tourists wanted to go there!

Nope, this spot is already taken by Descent: FreeSpace – The Great War. Released 15th June 1998, and Eve can't compare, you can't really fly the ships in this game.......

In the genre, before Eve we had Haegemonia: Legions of Iron.

Of course those games have outdfated graphics and are fdar less developed compared to today but at the timt, it was more than most PCs could handle, and they brought something new to space simulation...

Spacerift: Arcanum System is available on steam and looks really nice. It's much simpler than elite or others space sim games out there ;) It doesn't have ships and stations interiors or planets, currently its functionality is much closer to the first version of elite, but it's in early access and still it's good. The gameplay is not too hardcore or too arcade, I would say they have found the perfect balance, at least for me. I think it looks promising because of the mmo focus, while elite is more like a singleplayer game with a few multiplayer features and mmo power play in the background, Spacerift is focusing on in-game players interaction, however currently online is almost empty, but still I would give it a try or at least start following. Also it's very cheap ;)
