Yeah, been talking to a friend of mine on TeamSpeak who can also get on. He's loving it. I may have swore at him a few times ;)

I managed 5 mins this morning before work and then crashed. Loved what I saw. It's a beta. We have problems. They'll be fixed.

And I'm well impressed by the maturity of everyone on the forums through this. Any other MMO / MMORPG forum would have been on fire with toxic rage and self important 'want it nnnoooooaaaawww' posts.

Kudos guys and gals, kudos

Some feedback for the devs:

The good:
The new ship UI looks amazing!
Loving how the planets look now

The bad:
I can play the tutorials fine
I get a 'could not connect to server' message if i try Open Play
I get a forever spinning sidewinder if i try to choose Online Solo
I cannot quit properly, i have to Alt-Tab out and use task manager to end the process.

ps - I'm in the UK and i have a 100MB Cable Internet connection, direct by ethernet (VirginMedia). My MTU is, and always has been, 1,500. I am on Win 8.1 x64 and my system is rock solid.

pps - I did get online momentarily last night on 2.0 and from the little i've seen i'm loving the new Beta2! Keep up the good work guys, i'm off to bed, Elite can wait one more day, the universe aint goin nowhere.

:)

ok - can someone who can actually play this please list their OS hardware / perifs please cos i've not been able to fly anywhere in hours and solo just wont connect to server at all - which right now is particularly frustrating as the tutorials run fine.

opened 2 tickets no point... anyways i'm happy build a scrap rig to a spec that off DX or whatever it is that stops an i7k 16gig 2tb gamer boarded mugen cooled "I can render a 56 track 13 minute master mix project from ableton with to lossless flac in under 10 minutes so any game you wanna run aint a problem" from failing on this update...

anyways - system specs for rigs able to run 200 - 202 please:

It worked for me, but I still get a black screen upon quitting, for which I have to stop the program by the task manager (alt+ctrl+del). There are some jerkiness time to time, but overall I was happy to play more than 20 minutes without crashing.

Locks up at main menu in ver 2.02

Last night I did manage to get into my private group (ver 2.00)but that was all, online open play was black screen onl, tutorials worked fine.

Will sit back and have another coffee and watch my screen saver.. :D

Has anyone tried port forwarding? (Wondering what ports ED uses?)

downloaded 2.02
started open play
tried to jump form Dahan to Morgor
crashed
sent crash report
restarted game
repeat above

good to see some people are getting 20 min of play time, sadly I'm not.

in answer to someone else's question about ports, as best as I can figure it's
UDP/19364
UDP/3478
UDP/3479

The last two seem to be new for this release

if youve only just started - what are you doing in Dahan?

Persistance worked for me.

I had all the standard problems at first, but I kept trying and got a stable connection. It's been playing fine for the last 2 hours apart from one DC.
Time for sleep now, hope it's all still good tomorrow.

Same here, UK

At least in 2.01 I could do some training missions, enjoy the new UI; 2.02 just freeze on start menu.
All I get is server 54.78.765.44:19364[unconnected]
then I have to quit process via task manager.

Me Too :(

By playing with the MTU on the pc I can get different symptoms.

If I leave the MTU on what it has been for the last 5 years, 1300 (I run a lot of vpn sessions) then I get freezes at start and no connections to server.

If I change the MTU to 1500 I can get right into playing online but as soon as I try to jump it freezes (eg it all still moves but goes nowhere).

I am on an ADSL connection so my real mtu is likely around 1480 but if I set too high, the router should fragment, not the most efficient way.

Is the PMTU broken and why does Elite even get into this, shouldn't the underlying stack sort this out?

Cannot get past the play options screen, which has to be Task Manager killed. My netlog.log is showing this:

the last line gets repeated ad infinitum.

When you release a patch for a patch that patches a patch, isnt that supposed to fix things, not make them worse?

Congrats on making a crap first impression to new fans and backers! :S

At least Star Citizen has something working.

Last login before bed here, played for about an hour shooting the wanted npc's in the resource area, a couple of jumps to hand in messenger missions. Had one logout that let me reload fine.
Making lots of progress in the right direction for me. Loving the ship wear and tear appearance too :)

possible fix for menu freezing?

hi guys,
I havent had time to play today beyond an hour i had free earlier where i managed to eventually get online for about 10 minutes before DC.

i noticed the menu screen lock up appears to be caused when a failure to connect online makes elite generate a massive log file which locks up the menu trying to read/update it. now once this happens unless you delete the file this menu will never work again (from what ive seen). it makes sense just loading a 400mb+ log file would lock most (if not all) programs for a while and of course once opened if the issue with the server still exists the file just gets bigger and bigger leading to the clear solution of regularly deleting the file when it becomes too large.

so the second the menu locks up go to the elite program folder and find the extremely large log file and delete it (somewhere like program>fdev...>net.log i think). then restart elite and try again.

this for me seems to massively reduce the chances i get a locked menu screen upon loading and therefore let me get online at least once.

this might not work for anyone else but if it does please let people know to ease the frustration of not being able to play until frontier release a fix.
