Patch Notes Update Beta update 3 - incoming

Apart from anything else on the Truckers thread for the event that is happening as part of Mayhem, it says it's on the 21st of May.
I hope you are correct, since that would suggest Mayhem lasts up to 2 weeks... But since I know nothing of the "Truckers thread", how official is that?

No, I think this is a really good thing.

The problem with the current phase is that it's taking a long time for everyone to find all the Engineers, get the invitation, get the recipes, find the ingredients, return to the Engineer and craft the upgrades. Move on to level 2.... repeat. So very few Beta players are testing the upgraded items' balance, they're still muddling about finding Engineers.
- We need all the specials testing soon so that if there are problems or overhauls needed then we have a shot at changing the functionality. Given it takes some time to design & implement the change, time in QA, then bundle up into the next release and wait for bugs/feedback. Potentially with more than one loop around, each taking some number of days.
Both replies demonstrate the focus of (Mayhem) Beta testing will be on the Engineer special weapon enhancements... But what about balancing the rest of the game? Missions have seen major changes, and need proper testing & balancing (which now won't happen). USS location & frequency need testing & balancing (ditto). And probably some of the other bigger changes also need balancing.

Once ED leaves beta & gets public release, historically any balancing issues take forever to get dealt with (typically the next major update, i.e. several months). So they need dealing with during Beta, where it doesn't matter if re-balancing causes more problems (and where the focus hasn't yet moved to the next major update).

Yep, but mayhem doesn't stop that.
I have my doubts.

Options Menu still not usable with Hotas because of the button only response to i.e. the Quality Settings but don't open up the hidden Section of more settings.
As this was already reported i guess this is being fixed in the next build.
 
Can somebody *please* just post a working copy of the data.ovi file from the /Independent_Fighter folder? Either here or in my private message account?!?! I have tried *everything* that had been suggested, & 12 hours later I am still unable to install the beta. Thanks in advance.

Game in general is shaping up to be a much more complex and rich game for sure. But here is what needs a fix so far:

Dropping out of supercruise has a glotch that leaves you hanging for around 5 minutes of transition. Same goes for pre-glide.

Portraits for agents show up delayed.

Even when u are not jumping to a system, when switched to lefthand screen (pressing 1) there is a 2 second glitch showing fsd charging.

i believe that has to do mainly with ur pc, more specifically ur gpu. i had quite a long time of dropping out of SC myself with my old hd6950 2gb, but now with my new gtx 970 its barely noticable anymore

Hi Marc, I have that EXACT same issue, data.ovi from Independent_Fighter stuck every time.
Already contacted support still no reply yet.
 
It is bloody annoying. I wanted to test the game when I get home from work today....that now seems highly unlikely :(.

Ok I fixed it, had no idea because I use Firefox browser, but you need to open up IE and delete your history, I deleted everything just to be sure, also make sure you remove any partial files .part and .progress beforehand.
 
I'd like to see the retributors balanced (I think this will happen) and the AI tweaked to tone down the "running away" behaviour. Sometimes, not all the time would be a lot more fun.
 
Sorry everyone, it's me again. So now I've run into another validation issue with another data.ovl file. This time in the following folder:

C:\Games\Elite Dangerous\EDLaunch\Products\PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64\Win64\Items\SharedAudioAssets\Speech\Speech_VoxATC_Port_Federal_01_Audio

Again, if anyone can help out by sending me a working copy of this file (here or on my Private Message account), then I'd be eternally grateful!
 
Hyperspace has become a little bit dull and slow feeling in the rift.... more lightspeed please! :)

I agree it is duller...less eerie (I assume due to "less nebula models"). And a bit too "flashy" (I've seen some people talking about epilepsy etc.). But the stutter at the start may have gone...need to do some more jumping to be sure.

rename the file by removing the ".txt" component of the filename

Had to use the Steam keys and try to install a clean 2.1 beta there.
Had to resort to "alternate download method", which still hung at the end on four files. The difference was that killing the download once it had appeared to have 'hung' on the FD launcher that comes with Steam is that the 'Play' button lit up after validating the files.

Thing is, now my 'original' FD launcher (.4599) has gone 'orange theme' and wouldn't initially connect to FD Beta servers :mad: - (Appears to be fixed now)
If you have all the required files and it complains, rename the "VersionInfo.txt.new" to "VersionInfo.txt" replacing the existing version


I suspect you'll need another two .ovls
My original beta installation (using alternate download) complained about dava.ovl in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64\Win64\Items\SharedAudioAssets\Hardpoints\SelfAudio\Hpt_GatlingGun_Gimbal_Small_SelfAudio

and

C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\PUBLIC_TEST_SERVER_64\Win64\Items\Effects\LensFlare

Let me know if you need them too

Beta 3 cleared my last validation problem, but gave me a new one - this time a data.ovl one. I even deleted everything fdev.ever installed on my machine and started again from.scratch with the same result. Hope they're actually working on fixing it and not just relying on us sending files to each other. *sigh*

Thanks for trying, mate, but for some reason it won't work this time. Not sure why, as CMDR Cheese Wedge's other file worked a charm. My only hope is that someone from support will provide me with the file I require.....assuming that works.

Go solo. Open can be a pain in beta due to beta servers beibg a bit iffy.
