Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

My standard experience with Bethesda games and GeForce cards sadly.

My DCS capable gaming laptop did that with Fallout 4 when I installed it last week!

Ooh look, local ( WA) PC maker doing a special gaming PC with an AMD GPU that comes with Starfield;

Heh, well, so far, even on low, it looks pretty good. But that's in the caves and the character creator. Will have to see what happens when i get to New Atlantis.

However, probably going to be stuck on the character creator for a while.
I'm playing with most things on low due to my 7 year old PC

It looks OK in most places, New Atlantis is one place where it drops the resolution, so the quality isn't great there, the frame rate stays smooth enough though

Wow. They made space loading-screen simulator :cautious:

Very interesting Performance test of AMD vs Nvidia cards:
AMD is a clear winner.

It's not really an NVIDIA thing; the 4060 is simply a garbage product, or rather is priced at least $100 over what it should be.

Given what I've seen personally, and the results in tests like Owen's, I suspect the RX 6700 would beat the RX 7600 slightly, and that the 6800 XT might edge out the 7800 XT. The game is slanted more towards fill rate than shader limitations.

Might be a while before I try the game on my own RTX 4090 (I don't want to install Steam on my main system if I can avoid it), but my brother is playing on his, and as expected, it's at least twice as fast as my 6800 XT at the same settings (which is nearly twice as fast as the RTX 4060 in this game).

Shouldn't even be installing GeForce Experience!

That's a Fractal Design Define 7 Compact case. I've got one and the Meshify version is categorically better, simply by virtue of having a better ventilated front panel...the increased air flow actually allows for simultaneously lower temperature and lower noise because the front intake fans don't have to work as hard to pull air through tiny slits around the edge.

Also, the compact version of these cases is too short to mount the AIO radiator in the front, at least in conjunction with a high-end air cooled GPU, which forces it to be placed in the top position shown, which is not ideal, as the CPU radiator ingests the already heated air coming off the GPU...and there is likely a lot of heat coming off any GPU that has three eight-pin power connectors.

Well... my first impressions of Starfield so far:
  • Yep. It's a Bethesda game. It's going to be a while before I stop looking at every non-civilian NPC like they're a bunch of XP on legs.
  • Trying very hard not to loot everything in sight at first enemy base base for construction purposes
  • I'm really missing VATS.
  • Spaceflight is extremely basic, but at least it looks like combat will be stat based.
  • Hey look, a ship interior! (Looks around briefly)
  • You can skip straight to ramp from your cockpit seat… sweet!
  • Fast travel back to the ship takes you directly to the cockpit seat… even sweeter!!!
  • Oh, dear… I’ve never seen this type of apocalyptic log end well. Have these scientists ever watched classic sci-if movies?
  • Sounds like they recreated the radscorpion from Fallout.
  • It certainly has a similar profile from the very dangerous end!
  • Hey look! A non-pirate human… let’s go talk with them!
  • Why are they shooting at me?
  • Hmm… to survey a planet, you need to scan a small handful of life forms, both flora and fauna, a large number of times… where have I seen that before?
  • At least I can persuade storyline NPCs..

Lol, buy a new PC?

  • Trying very hard not to loot everything in sight at first enemy base base for construction purposes

If you try to land on a populated planet there's chances you're scanned by security. They'll confiscate it and you're fined and put in prison. There's a few ways to get around that though (see article). If you managed to get past the security or regain the items then you can sell it at the Trade Authority.

Spaceflight is extremely basic, but at least it looks like combat will be stat based.

Maybe mods will improve that. It's a pity there's no supercruise within star systems.

Walking around is nice too. The details inside the ships, on the planets and in the cities are wonderful on PC ultra. The cities feel vibrant and lived-in unlike what ED and SC have to offer.

I've been watching Twitch stream. Its a meh from me. There is no spaceflight to mention. There are lots of lots of fade to black, even while your wandering around a single location as it loads the next bit. I would buy it for 15 quid, not 60.

For some reason it will be available on the 6th here. Maybe we'll have a day 1 patch until then and a few mods that make it less rough around the edges (as expected, for a Bethesda game..).
Still kinda surprised people expected a space sim despite everyone repeating for years it would not be one but a classic Bethesda RPG set in space...

Lol thanks for making my point.

As an aside I expect it will be a bit more fleshed out than The Outer Worlds in that domain (with RPG-like space combat, for example, as TOW had none bar that pirate boarding).
