Game Discussions Bethesda Softworks Starfield Space RPG

Heh, the one thing I keep desperately wanting from every new gamebryothesda title, and which I am sure is a non-issue to most, is seamless background streaming-, linking-, and integration of interior cells into the overworld. Don't make me sit and stare at a load screen - just let me open a door and have the room/cave/whatever be right there behind it, ready to be walked into, as a contiguous part of the world, without hicups. Not going to happen as long as even towns are sequestered into separate cells... (Yes, I know of open cities. :7)

Aye it's the
Your reasoning is wrong.

Invalid predictions are invalid.

(And no, I don't give a damn how old you are. Age means nothing when dealing with new tech, which is largely why it's taken Bethesda so long. This is actually now being treated as a new engine. Built upon the old, sure, but with enough changes to be something else. That is why it's stupid to make assumptions right now.)

I'm not sure why you are being like this over my opinion here. I do happen to think it's an ugly engine but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so theres that.

I'm not a graphics elitist either I just happen to think the engine is ugly and buggy (I've gotten caught in the scenery more times in this engine than any other).

But anyways I do hope they've improved it as you've said but having not seen any gameplay of it I can still hold to my own opinion while not rubbishing yours or your hopes for it.

Sounds fair aye! :)

True but he can look at a company's history, and the quality of their previous games, the writing, the bugs, false marketing and have a healthy amount of skepticism.

Thank you, you've said it better than I did. I'm quite happy to be proved absolutely wrong but based on the recent portfolio they got a lot right but I just dont like the engine and how it looks in some ways. It does environments pretty well but I hate how faces look.

The major issue for me is the game engine. The same engine used since 2002 morrowind. Granted it has been modified, updated and overhauled over the years....
....However the saying "if it aint broke...." Well it is broke and the community has been fixing it in every game iteration for the past 19 years.

Seemingly, Starfield is the first Bethesda title developed with their new Creation 2 engine...so the blurb says anyroads 🤷‍♂️

Not same, it was Netimmerse\Gamebryo, now its a Creation engine since Skyrim. They used some code from gamebryo and handy level\quest editor, but rest of the engine is totally new and its not a problem to improve it further. They just need to upgade their lighting system, and looks like they did it in Starfield, also they added 3rd party global illumination in F76.

and?? frontier has been using the same cobra engine for all its games since 1988 .... do you think it is better than bethesda's improved one? haha (y)

Bethesda's games, still with bugs, are masterpieces.

Not sure if it's a good thing. New version of the engine simply means reintroducing problems that were already fixed in the previous version. Basically "back to square 1" for both Bethesda and the modders.
Remember, last time they tried to "improve" the engine, we've ended up with FO76, which, all multiplayer-y, monetary and other problems aside, looks like a straight downgrade from Fallout 4. If you look at those two games side by side, FO76 looks five years older than the 4. And one of the few saving graces of Starfield could be the graphics (Considering I expect most game mechanics - bugs included - will be similar to the previous games)

Our only hope is that Microsoft will keep them in line this time around. I really want this game to be good and I'm going to do all I can to like it, but looking back and their track record, it may be hard. :D

The community hasn't made any changes to the engine at all LOL.

Work within, yes, but not actually changing it.

Or look what happened when Bioware switched engines and ME Abdromeda happened. People's faces were very tired.

Not a new engine it's an overhaul to the old one. Quote from Todd Himself:

“These new systems are optimized for the vast worlds we love to create, with generational leaps not just in graphics, but CPU and data streaming as well. It’s led to our largest engine overhaul since Oblivion"

Sorry never ment to imply players were fixing the engine just the hoards of duplicate references, dirty edits and scripting in their games.

From the fallout wiki:
"The Creation Engine is the successor to the Gamebryo game engine, and was launched to support The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.. It retains much of the basic framework and has the same general feel, but adds numerous improvements over the older engine"

Is it a big issue that they are using an old framework?
No
Were there issues with with gamebryo?
Yes
Were a lot of those same issues duplicated with creation engine?
Yes
Has there been at lot of the same issues migrating from skyrim to fallout 4 to the dumpster fire of F76?
Yes

I would say it is time for a new engine.

I really have a hard time being excited for anything Bethesda related these days, also "new" engine means new bugs and with recent fiasco of their quality control I expect nothing but hilarious issues after launch. Gonna be fun to watch hype train entering 2fps.

Yeah, really looking for a space RPG here but we'll see.

This looks like a very promising game. Nice bridge details and overall mech graphic designs ... looks like real ships. GL HF

well sorta real ... future visualizations and such ... am I the first to post after the redirect?
