Big 5

It does not look the same. Sorry.

That doesn't justify another leopard at this point though. But the amur leopard is the most visually distinctive of the leopard subspecies. At least the one in game. Idk if irl in their summer coat looks the same as a tropical leopard or not but in the game is clearly the fluffy amur subspecies.
I agree with you on the Amur is way too fluffy. I even looked up "Amur leopard in summer" and the stock photos that came up all still have a bit of fluffiness around their face and the coat still looks dense. Plus, they are a different build.
So, I personally would want a more typical leopard. Preferably the second most common in captivity subspecies. However, that would ONLY be nice if it didn't take up a single slot. If only Frontier would add a few clones without sacrificing spots for more unique animals. The clones I'd consider if and only if they were a free gift alongside a normal anniversary animal: Indian Wolf (chose it over Arabian Wolf just because it could stand in for Red Wolf too), generic Leopard (Zoos irl have generic leopards so why not?), Eurasian Brown Bear etc...

Guess which wolf above is which?

Too bad Frontier won't give us clones unless they take up spots...

Wheres the problem in just putting an amur leopard as a stand in? looks the same anyways and its not like foliage requirement is real, it has next to no effect
It doesnt really look the same to me, the fur is way off. Also idk what youre talking about, in Franchise using foliage from the African Savannah for an animal labelled as Temperate/Taiga will absolutely have a negative effect on welfare and therefore breeding. I dont want to be forced to play on sandbox just to represent one of the 5 most iconic species on the African Savannah...

Yeah thats my take...I wish we had a normal leopard INSTEAD of the Amur.

Also did you know the Siberian Tiger is no longer even considered a distinct subspecies from the Bengal Tiger? The only other recognized subspecies based on genetics is now the Sumatran Tiger....so we literally have a clone of the same exact animal in the base game lmao

Well at least it came in the base game and not in a DLC haha like some wolf 👀

Well I didn't have "thread seriously defending the African leopard for a place on the final dlc" on my bingo card but here we are. What's next, free flying birds must be the reason why the dlc is taking so long?
Either flying birds is the reason why the dlc is taking so long, or it is because they are making a whole bunch of habitat animals with a much smaller team. Personally, flying birds feels more like sequel material rather than something to end on, besides if we were to get that, we wouldn't get the much needed South American species representation, as well as something like a Hamadryas Baboon, a Secretary Bird, a Tree Kangaroo or Walrus and Musk Ox. I'd prefer a big animal pack with remaining habitat animals than flying birds at this point.

Real leopards dont care where their trees comes from lol

The folliage need only affect like, 3% of the overall welfare, you can absolutelly put your Amur leopard in a african setting and it will be fine.

But the Amur tiger is the more relevant one for zoos, so if anything the Bengal is the pointless clone

But do you notice that during gameplay? I bet not

The fact of the matter is, we have plenty of cat species already, and in my opinion, the African Leopard wouldn't add anything new or exciting.
I agree but I also feel like they owe us a legitimate leopard in addition to the dlc animals. I will be just as mad if we get another leopard subspecies as one of the last dlc slots as I would be of we didnt. I just think its ridiculous to only have a leopard that hates grasslands and tropical biomes and it should have been added a long time ago, ideally in the base game

Idk about other people but my argument is that it should have been in the base game and not having it at all is almost as bad as being forced to pay for it. Im not delusional, I dont think they will give us a free leopard and I sincerely hope its not one of the last dlc animals.

Yeah Id much rather have more monkeys in the last dlc but that won't change the fact that africa and india themed areas feel weird without leopards

Well again, why cant you just use the amur leopard?
There are exactly 3 zoos in europe and a single zoo on cuba that still keep african lions in europe and NA, so you most likly have never even seen an african leopard in a zoo, same for indian whose kept in 2 european and 0 north american zoos.
70+% of leopards in captivity are amur leopards, the rest are mostly the different chinese subspecies and a few others like the persian or srilanka leopard.
If youve never ever encounter an african ir indian leopard in a zoo, but do see lots of leopards which most likly are amur leopards, in many different themings, why would you want an african or indian leopard in game when even real zoos are substituting them in their africa and india sections with other asian leopards?

The Amur leopard is a legitimate leopard though
