Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

The funny thing was, it was so transparent and obvious what FDev did (not least because Yamiks did a rant video to camera about it) that it backfired on FDev and helped Yamiks. His subscriber rate shot up, because people started to perceive they were being manipulated & knew Yamiks would be honest because he hadn't been "bought". It gave him notoriety and mystique... and put seeds of doubt in other people's minds about the authenticity & honesty of other Youtubers that passed the "Frontier Test".
I'll have to admit when I saw the video that D2EA published where he unboxed his 'gift' from FDev, it did leave me less willing to trust his judgment. In fairness, I suspect these freebies are unsolicited and to presume that there is even an implied reciprocal relationship would be a logical fallacy to say the least. But they are designed to influence the influencers and subconsciously they could end up with some of them self censoring their content even if they don't realize it. That's why I like Yamiks; not for his puerile humour, or constant negativity, but because if I am looking at a game he'll always give the negative, which I can then compare against the largely sanitized opinions of everyone else out there.

That's great and all, but at its core it'll always be a pulp-scifi crafter/builder game with spaceships mostly being a way to load new maps. It has a center part, like ED and X4, that if you don't like it no dlc will change it.

I recommend NMS as one of a few spacegames to people all the time, but it isn't for me. And it never will be. Nothing wrong with that, and you dont see me hang around NMS communities berating HG for not catering to me or pushing players to ED. It's a great game, for others.

Absolutely - no game is for everyone, and NMS is particularly marmite for many people. It's a game I always recommend people play it though, especially if you can pick it up on a Steam sale. I was simply pointing out that he's not experienced a whole raft of new experiences and content that has been added since he last played. There's an enormous amount of gameplay variety in NMS these days. Something might tickle his fancy. 🤷‍♀️

Personally, I like the sci-horror pastiche of exploring derelict freighters added in (I think) the Desolation update. Really atmospheric, especially in VR.

He isn't always negative or hysterical either. He just doesn't hold back... he is brutally honest at times, and it's worth remembering also that his channel is there for "entertainment", and he often self parodies and says things for 'comedic' effect. I like him for that reason - I respect people who say it how they see it, and call a spade a spade, even if that ends up offending people.

Agree that the bowl of rocks was unsolicited, and one shouldn't blame the recipients for them. But it's very clear what FDev were hoping to achieve by sending them. It's all about psychology.

Not always no, but if you start on a planet that does, you just abandon it and start again (well I do anyway!).

I've noticed in recent versions that you don't typically get hassled by sentinels or predators on the early planets, so they've made that part a bit easier. Still happens sometimes though. There's also a scripted storm on the first planet that will kill you if you're unprepared for it.
yeah, I went back to my ship during the storm, hadn't far back because I was picking up oxygen, carbon, sodium nearby first. I won't abandon my first planet though, i like it's frosty atmosphere and it has copper deposits, quite a lot of plant life for an icy planet and seems to be predator-free. I saw a few drones flying around, but they didn't care about my presence. Who knows, maybe the alien race said to be in this sector is non-hostile as well, I'm currently looking for outposts of them on "my" planet.

I mean, is there even a point in watching someone else playing?
yeah actually it is, one can learn quite a few things and because one isn't focused on the game play, one can pay attention to other details. But when it comes to EVE, I don't really know, what one could learn from that actually. Well, leaving Jita 4-4 Caldari Navy safely maybe and never to use auto-pilot, but otherwise EVE is too detailed to pick it up from watching a stream. Well, a good commentary could help, but then again, a newbie won't understand most of what is important to known anyway.

I'm dubious about the lack of rain. I thought MSFS was supposed to have realistic weather, but the Scotland I live in demands you carry an umbrella and sunglasses for most of the summer.

LOL... it's true, but if you don't like the weather in Scotland, just wait 20 minutes and it'll all change. ;)

MSFS has "live weather", but it still has issues for many people. But you can set the time of day and weather / cloud cover for any flight manually... even during a flight.

Pfff, Eve online, please....
Give me Europa Universalis 4 for true spreadsheet ! Or rule the waves 2 for added MS-paint graphics !

There is a public for everything :)
it's so funny, all say EVE would be spreadsheets in space, but I haven't used a spreadsheet in 13 years in EVE. I'm getting always the price I want using mixed distribution methods with prices catered to the public buying there. So my prices for stuff range from slightly underpriced to massively overpriced - dependent on the location, but in average I'm always getting my target price for all my wares. Spreadsheets are for bean counters, i work with 25-30% profit margin and don't need to fine-tune prices - i just have to know which audience behaves in which ways when it comes to buying stuff - someone who is far away from hubs doesn't care if he has to pay 3-5 times the average price, he just buys it and moves on. Those are the profitable customers, which enables me to bulk sell underpriced and put some pressure on trading hubs and my concurrence.

It's the joke. We don't use spreadsheet either for the game I mentioned. It's just that it look kinda like a spreadsheet, especially from what I remember of the outfitting screen, the storage and all that stuff.
Been years though.

All the alien races are non-hostile, though some are friendlier than others. There's some fun lore surrounding them (particularly with the Gek and Korvax) that you can discover as you play the game. Frosty planets are usually good starting points I find. Hot ones with volcanoes spraying molten rocks everywhere & superheated storms get an instant restart with me - they are brilliant planets to explore, but not until you've improved your suit a bit.

There are more than enough who use spreadsheets and try to sell over acceptable prices. But which prices are "acceptable" depends on people, not on calculations. it is by far more important to know, how people behave in a certain location and where they expect to buy their wares. A simple example, if you want to sell to navy guys, sell it at their outposts and not in the station nearby - they won't fly over to the other station just to save a couple of millions, they will buy it where they usually dock. Mission runners will as well not do 30 jumps to the major trading hub just to save a few tens of millions, one can sell them their stuff a couple of times overpriced - they want to run missions, not travel. Their mission ships are far too slow for such a distance - it takes me 11 minutes to do 30 jumps, but it would take them 2 hours to get to the hub and back - so they will buy my stuff for 3-5 times the average price, because it saves them 2 hours. it is that simple actually, one just has to know how people behave.

Spreadsheets are useful when you have lots of things to keep track of- ED is like one giant database and its only natural that past a certain level you start using lists as well, its just that sort of game really.
