I'll have to admit when I saw the video that D2EA published where he unboxed his 'gift' from FDev, it did leave me less willing to trust his judgment. In fairness, I suspect these freebies are unsolicited and to presume that there is even an implied reciprocal relationship would be a logical fallacy to say the least. But they are designed to influence the influencers and subconsciously they could end up with some of them self censoring their content even if they don't realize it. That's why I like Yamiks; not for his puerile humour, or constant negativity, but because if I am looking at a game he'll always give the negative, which I can then compare against the largely sanitized opinions of everyone else out there. The funny thing was, it was so transparent and obvious what FDev did (not least because Yamiks did a rant video to camera about it) that it backfired on FDev and helped Yamiks. His subscriber rate shot up, because people started to perceive they were being manipulated & knew Yamiks would be honest because he hadn't been "bought". It gave him notoriety and mystique... and put seeds of doubt in other people's minds about the authenticity & honesty of other Youtubers that passed the "Frontier Test".
