Black holes should kill you if you fly into them

Yep, I remember those days, and the jumping in between two close binary stars, that was always fun, unfortunately anything actually dangerous in exploration is nerfed to oblivion! It's something I am struggling to understand. We get lots of threads by apparant new players asking for exploration to be dangerous, but the moment they put in something dangerous we get a flood of demands to nerf it!
Still happens, to exit between 2 stars, get fuel scoop working, then overheating. Once got kicked out SC by exclusion zone. Just need to be too unlucky.

They should be dangerous. Right now they just pull you out of supercruise and then heat your ship up. That's just disappointing.
But my immersion!!! Oh, wait - that WOULD be immersion, wouldn't it?

Actually, a black hole should be SO dangerous... (HOW DANGEROUS IS IT??)… Thank you. It should be so dangerous that if you were to fly into it / be destroyed by it that it should reset your character back to:

"Welcome new pilot - please select your Commander Name"
Shouldn’t just kill you, but permadeath.
That's not possible with a video game, is it?
No. It's necessary.

I vote for the black hole transporting you to the other side of the galaxy.
With lots of damage to your modules. The damned things should be dangerous, if not deadly.

If people want danger why not just use this one neat trick:

Whenever you jump into a BH system roll a dice. If it comes up 6 then clear save. Simples
BUT, if you possess "The shields of the Goddess of Meep-Zorp" it gives you 20 points of life.

Personally, I like the idea wmiller posted - if not death then at least toss you hundreds of light years away from your current location with lots of damage to the modules. If you're going to explore dangerous things, they should DO something dangerous, and you need to at least learn from foolish mistakes that a black hole is nothing to be trifled with. They should be respected for the danger the represent.

Want to make it "easy" for new players? Right at the start of the game:
NEW PLAYERS TAKE NOTE: IF YOU ARE OUT EXPLORING AND ENCOUNTER A BLACK HOLE, BE ADVISED THAT THEY ARE DANGEROUS. YOU COULD END UP TOSSED HUNDREDS OF LIGHT YEARS AWAY FROM THAT LOCATION WITH LOTS OF DAMAGE TO YOUR SHIP, OR YOU COULD END UP BACK HERE PICKING OUT YOUR NEW COMMANDER NAME. DON'T CRY ABOUT IT, JUST BE AWARE OF THE DANGER THEY REPRESENT.

No nerf. Just make sure everyone understands they're dangerous.

Seems it is longer then twit-size. Nobody will read it :D As most got used to SMS-size messages.

I would like for them to be dangerous/deadly as well, and I don't like the idea of any warning system outside of what your ship might do when you are close to one.

This game is gradually losing its sense of discovery along with its sense of danger. I don't want to play in a baby proofed nursery with warning labels on everything.

If someone really wants to know what happens to their ship if they continue to fly it directly into a black hole, good on them for being a curious cat and the game should honor the expression.

Agreed, it's daft that you can get easily killed by a Neutron star but then a black hole you just bump into it like if it was a ballooon, all that's currently missing is a "boingggg" sound effect, followed by the Benny Hill theme song as people kept boinggging and boinggging.

You should be able to drop into one, then as you'd get closer the ship would start overheating and alarms sounding, and if you insisted on getting closer.

This is the kind of stuff (like nasty bugs being unattended for blipping years) that make this game still feel like a project in a extremely long early access period, not a supposedly released game.

Well, it's kind of an insignificant detail to be honest. It's odd that they removed the damage after complaints, but if they readded it, I'm pretty sure people would periodically complain how black holes should be some kind of lethal space maelstroms that swallow unfortunate space voyagers regularly.
