Blue galaxy?

The Box Nebula comes to mind. Some other ones have catalogue names but you can find them by typing "CD" and searching.
I've found a reference to a blue galaxy; M51 or the Whirlpool galaxy, although I haven't been able to find it's position relative to Andromeda, so I don't know if it's M51 I'm looking at.
Stellarium says "no".
Does Stellarium provide another answer for another candidate?
Has this spot been observed before?
Difficult to say. I've been unable to find a match on the maps of the known in-game galaxies.
M51 is nearly 180 degrees off from any view of Andromeda.
Stellarium can't help much with a viewpoint so far from Sol and we cant make accurate measurements from our ships.

I'm also pretty sure that it wasn't there before 3.0. I examine the background very often, too.
Maybe it's an exhaust plume of a ship braking hard to not overshoot our Galaxy?

Maybe, it'd be a matter of checking its position relative to Andromeda for example.
Had to physically visit region but confirmed, it's the white-dot galaxy above plane out that direction:
