Bob the Keelback - Memorial run to Beagle Point

Watching with interest!
Today I bought a Keelback in Bob's memory. I might not be able to play every day but I might make a thread and tell her story (or should I? I don't want to step on anyone's toes). She has the Black Friday paintjob in memory of Bob's death but I have named her Eyes Wide Open in memory of his life. Hopefully she can live up to that name. Here is the story of her first day:
After completing her outfitting at Jameson Memorial, where she was commissioned, the Eyes Wide Open stocked up on medicines, including the mystical Waters of Shintara, to help deal with an outbreak that had been reported in the distant systems of Ceos and Sothis. Before she made that journey, however, there was a duty that first needed to be performed and she visited the space station Invergary in the Deklar system to pay her respects to Bob. There she released four bursts of chaff outside the station entrance: one for each day of Bob's life.
.
After docking to pause a moment in reflection, she then left for Ceos, thirty jumps away. On her way out of the station she passed another Keelback coming in to dock - a good omen, perhaps? The journey was quick and uneventful: the pilot, CMDR Edelgard von Rhein, had recently competed in the tenth Buckyball Run and the medicines were urgently needed so the jumps were done at race pace, though without sustaining heat damage as sometimes happens when racing!
.
In Ceos, there were ships requesting medicines and, hoping that this might get help to where it was needed the fastest, the Eyes Wide Open transferred her cargo of Basic Medicines to a Type 9 designated as Disaster Appeal. This ship was not interested in the Waters of Shintara, however, so she made her way to dock with the station and sold them on the market there as normal. She ended her first day docked at New Dawn Station.
.
Perhaps the outbreak will be over tomorrow - or perhaps she will do some missions to help? There is also the exploration Community Goal to consider at Garoku, which is important for very different reasons, and the Eyes Wide Open has some exploration data from her journey to Ceos that may be helpful. There is also the lure of the black, as Ceos is one of the most distant systems ever colonised...

Glad to see that Tom is progressing safely! Does he have a AFMU or SRV? Some jumponium will be required to reach Beagle Point for ships with less than ~33LY range (the penultimate jump is over 33LY).
The Eyes Wide Open has been busy following in Bob's footsteps and also making a few of her own.
.
Firstly, to assist in the exploration CG at Garoku, the Eyes Wide Open paid a visit to HIP 63835, a system that Bob also wondered at with its black holes and ringed worlds. The system sees a lot of activity and there were other ships there in a convoy, also exploring. There was also some debris, though not much was identifiable. There is a lot of this near human space, even a couple of hundred light years from the nearest inhabited system.
.
After turning in the exploration data, CMDR Edelgard von Rhein decided to take her Buckyballing, something that was once suggested to Bob. Buckyball Run X was in progress and a live run was scheduled. With little time to prepare, some tune-ups from Felicity Farseer helped to upgrade her FSD and engines as well as her power plant. With minutes to spare, she arrived safely at VZ Corvi. Sadly, she did not depart safely, with a collision in the airlock being looked upon most harshly by the authorities and the station's artillery! One rapid insurance claim later saw the Eyes Wide Open relaunch and persevere with the race, despite being behind, and duly finishing in a time of 41 minutes 28 seconds in the 'Big X' course. This Buckyball race has two courses and there was also a live race for 'little x' which was much less eventful, with the Eyes Wide Open coming third with a time of 17 minutes and 40 seconds. Buckyball racing is dangerous and there were several other insurance claims by other commanders during the live runs. This course included some spectacular scenery, with a station orbiting a ringed Earth-like world orbiting a gas giant and the twin Earth-likes of VZ Corvi.
.
Since then the Eyes Wide Open has been taking part in the search for anything mysterious on Merope 5c, which is where the newly-discovered Unknown Probes point to. Previously, it was known that Barnacles could be found here but is there more to this world that that? Time will tell...

Hopefully you cruise around to the dark side of those earth-like's to check for city lights. Never know.

Always do.

Tom hoped to meet with another Explorer that mines the boost materials for him because he cant.

How is Tom getting on? Has he reached Jaques? There are reportedly a number of CMDRs out there looking for Barnacles in the nearby nebula - have you been able to get some help finding jumponium?
I'm planning a meta-alloys and food run to Jaques so I can bring a mining laser if you don't have a SRV (I don't know if you can get Yttrium and Polonium from mining but I think you can find everything else, so it would allow you to get level 2 boosts with a 50% range bonus).

Nice progress Tom.

Say hi to all the explorers and ask Jaques if remembers that unfortunate incident with the Tequila and the slightly malfunctioning Roomba!

Glad Tom made it safely to Jaques!
.
I've set out in my Anaconda to bring Jaques some essential and (hopefully) useful supplies and will probably arrive on Sunday. My apologies for not bringing the Eyes Wide Open on this trip but I wanted to transport as much as I could: my Anaconda is carrying 304t of commodities (and still has a jump range of almost 29LY)! If you haven't met anyone to help you mine for jumponium, let me know: I brought a mining laser so I could look for materials (but no refinery or limpets - it's my intention to head back to the bubble rather than stay there and do a lot of mining; there are quite a few people already doing that).
.
The Eyes Wide Open has been resting during the Dangerous Games, keeping out of trouble (and avoiding criminal activity!). She had no luck finding anything mysterious on Merope 5c but has done a couple more missions from Ceos and Sothis. The outbreak is now over in Ceos but one minor faction still reports infections in Sothis, so she's helped them out. Whilst I am bringing supplies to Jaques, she is parked in Delkar.
.
This is the view from the surface of Merope 5c:

If you want to meet Tom at Jaques or take the Wanderlust Legacie Lavian Brandy from Tom, let me know!

Hope to meet Tom tomorrow, if that is possible for you. I should arrive at Jaques during the morning (in-game time) but I don't know when. If you want to add me as a friend my CMDR name is the same as my forum name. I'll need a proper break for dinner but (real-life permitting) I plan to be on after about 13:30 game time.

I would also like to meet up with Tom and get my picture taken with such a celebrity! Presently at Jacques waiting for something to happen, so I would be happy to help you look for materials for jumping (got a mining laser) if you don't have that sorted yet. Same name in game as here!

Hello "Bob"!
This is a very nice thread :) I noticed your adventures before, but i never thought that there would be an opportunity for me to take part in it. But now there is such an opportunity, as i'm nearing Jacques Station at "lightspeed" (Ok, granted, i'm a lil faster than that). I expect to arrive today around 19.00-21.00 GST! So if you are still there...

It was an honour to meet up with Tom the Keelback and CMDR Bjorna last night and do some mining and I wish you all the best for your trip to Beagle Point.
.
If Tom's jump range is near 25LY, Beagle Point can be reached with just a couple of J2 boosts ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/272347-My-Homage-Python-vs-Asp ) so hopefully you can get the materials you need for this. I think different materials can be found in different ring types, so it's worth visiting more than just the metallic rings we looked in last night.
.
I've decided to return to the bubble and then to bring some more meta-alloys to Jaques so he can offer repairs and other services to commanders as soon as possible. I'll be staying nearby for a day or two though to scan some systems near the nebula and maybe find worlds with a suitable environment for Barnacles and if you need a hand with something just ask. Fly safe!
