Boötes pronounciation?

Apparently the "ö" in the name is a diaeresis, not an umlaut, meaning that each 'o' is to be pronounced separately.

Wikipedia says:

/boʊˈoʊtiːz/

No I have no idea what that means so I've been trying to interpret the IPA key.

So both 'o's are pronounced which is as in oats.

So it's

boʊ - as in boat.
oʊ - as in boat
tiːz - as in tease

Which I'm saying thusly: http://teknohippy.net/junk/bootes.mp3

Anyone who knows this IPA stuff? Have I interpreted correctly?

Also as we reference it in days to come next week ALT-0246 (ö) might be handy!

Interesting.
It necessitates a sort of phantom 'w'!
But the little apostrophe indicates main stress is on the second 'o' syllable.

It sort of has a similar music (though not quite rhyming) to Capote.
Or pilates.
Or promoties. I don't know what promoties are.

Interesting.

So, if I write "öööö..." in my native tongue (meaning "uhhmm..."), English speakers would be inclined to pronounce it oe-oh-oh-oh ? :D

(natively, the ö is pronounced quite like u in word church)

Boötes /boʊˈoʊtiːz/

In English, I think it's pronounced 'Bow oh teas'.

'Bow' as in arrow.
'Oh' as in oh my God...
'Teas' as in who wants a cuppa?

Edit: only just noticed Zieman's post isn't the first in this thread...

Time for a cuppa here I think.

promoties is dutch for a sales action, such as a product promotion at a supermarket. (The things you can learn on a space game forum :))

An example might be 'Come to Boötes Footware for all your space shoe needs. Special offer this week, two for the price of one!'

Must be some mighty expensive shoes that a single free pair saves you more than the cost of a voyage of several light-years just to go shoe-shopping.:D
